Introduction
Explorers! Patch Notes for Update 2.14 are here and as always we have all the coverage on everything. This update is dubbed the Imperatosuchus Update, and we have the info on that as well as other new features summed up for you here. There are several new abilities this update, which are covered in another article, but there are also some changes to current abilities. We'll break down what each one is, what creatures are affected by it, and what we think it means for the meta.
Ability Updates
Note: The original notes and this article had a change to Counter Power Heal. Ludia corrected that on the forum notes and that move is not changing so it has been removed from the article.
GROUP DECELERATING IMPACT
Group Decelerating Impact now has a Cooldown of 1 instead of 2.
This is a great change for these creatures especially for tournament formats against flocks. It is going to be easier to cycle this move, keeping their opponent slow while also hitting every member of a flock.
CRITICAL SIDESTEP
Critical Sidestep now has a Cooldown of 1 instead of 0.
This is a big change for Phorurex, which is the only creature currently with this move. It especially changes matchups against Testacornibus as it can't sidestep back to back to get ahead before using it's swap out rampage move. This change in addition to the other changes to Phorurex make it a very different creature then it was before. Much more of a glass cannon that might not be as easy to swap in and out.
GROUP DISTRACTING IMPACT
Group Distracting Impact now has a Cooldown of 1 instead of 2.
This move is actually called Restricted Group Distraction in game. This is a huge buff to all of the creatures with this move as they will be able to cycle it with their other moves much easier. Skoona, in particular, can now cycle both of its group moves 3 times in a row allowing for more damage input overall.
ROAR
Roar now has Priority.
Morty is the only one with this move and this is a huge change for it. This will especially help it against the resilient creature that can currently outplay it. It will make it more viable in PVP, but it would mess up a lot of raid strategies that use it right now.
SUPER DISTRACTION
Super Distraction now has no Delay instead of a Delay of 1 and deals 1.5x damage instead
of 1x.
Referentem will now have more turn one options with this change. It also improves from a strike to an impact allowing it to dish out more damage. This move change, along with the other changes Ref is getting, could put it as one of the best Apex creatures in the game.
