Kogarashi (a Touhou LW original) refers to the cold wind that blows at the beginning of winter. This is an apt temperament for Letty, who is a youkai of winter. Letty is endowed with Water Phase, the element of winter, and Sun Essence, as she lives in harmony with nature.

The flexible and patient Water Phase resists Metal Phase, because metal collects water, but it is weak to Earth Phase, because earth directs water.

The alluring and arrogant Sun Essence resists the diverse and uncooperative Star Essence, but it is weak to the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence.

Letty Whiterock's Spell Card. She invokes wandering phantoms to create a blizzard. Phantoms have a low body temperature and are said to be cool when touched. Rituals in which multiple people gather around a table to invoke spirits are commonly known worldwide, and some of them are forbidden.

Crystallized Silver

Letty Whiterock's Last Word (a Touhou LW original). This attack collects the cold air and produces a large amount of very hard ice. It almost looks like silver appears out of thin air. It is thought that the opponent is physically pelted before they can even feel the cold. This is due to the rapid and powerful diamond dust. The attack uses the moisture from the air, making the surroundings very dry.

Letty's ability as a youkai of winter. This ability apparently allows her to manipulate the nature of winter. Since this ability is so closely tied to the natural world, she has immense power during the winter season. However, she seems to struggle to gather much power and is always sleepy during seasons that are not winter. Looking into the records, it appears that she doesn't take well to being considered similar to ice fairies like Cirno; this is perhaps because of her pride as a youkai. The two seem to be a good match since Letty is a type of youkai with particularly close ties to nature, and fairies represent nature. If they work together, the two have the potential to make up for each other's weaknesses and become more powerful.

For every layer of Barrier Status: Freeze, Yang DEF, Yin DEF, CRIT DEF, & CRIT Evasion 1 level UP.

Character Analysis

Letty Whiterock was released on March 8th, 2022 in "Prayer: Old Desire." For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.

Letty Whiterock is a Yuki-onna, a snow-woman, and the first boss of Perfect Cherry Blossom. Understandably, but incorrectly, she is the first to be accused of extending the abnormally long winter and is promptly defeated by the protagonists. However, don’t be fooled by her appearance. It has been said that if she fought at her full capacity, her manipulation of cold would be enough to cause an incident.

As a unit with a solo targeting Last Word: Crystallized Silver, farming most stages is definitely not Letty’s strength at all.

That said, in longer fights given the proper setup, she can function as a solo nuker with additional water breaks, though her lack of scaling can make her fall short. With all of her shots on her Last Word consisting of Mass bullets, Story Cards such as The Secret God of the Sky and Dropping Keystones are able to provide good damage boosts.

Letty's Focus shot provides a Water break even at 0P, and her Solo spellcard Cold Sign: Lingering Cold provides one Water break at 0P and three at 3P. While she may have decent water breaks against a single enemy, her breaks against multiple enemies leave a lot to be desired. Her All spellcard Mystic Sign: Table-Turning only breaks 2 Water barriers even at 3P.

White Breath is a two-stage Yin ATK buff, alongside providing some defensive stats via self-freeze and Letty’s ability to manipulate chill, giving her some time to set up and buff her Last Word. Invisible Youkai provides some survivability with a two-stage buff to her Yin DEF, as well as the ever-valuable barrier recovery. Her last skill Midwinter Water also provides a two-stage Yin DEF buff, as well as giving 1P.

Letty’s kit seems to be directed towards defensive utility, but she does not have the stats required to validate it, nor can she support her team in any way as she does so, given her lack of Focus Up. She also cannot farm practically any stage you’d like her to, and her Last Word lacks major scaling, though it attempts with meager hard scaling on its 3-6 bullets. This leaves her in a difficult position. She can act as a Solo Yin nuker with access to some water breaks but falls behind even other General units such as Murasa in many regards.

The Witch of Scarlet Dreams

Letty’s reliance on Spirit Power to reach her full potential means that having a card like Witch of Scarlet Dreams is important. One max limit broken copy is enough to get her there. Other spellcards can hold onto stat sticks which provide Yin ATK, as Letty lacks it in general, only having a 2 stage buff of Yin ATK from her first skill.

Last Word

The Secret God of the Sky

The Secret God of the Sky provides a 50% Mass-bullet damage increase to Letty’s Last Word, which consists entirely of Mass-bullets. It also provides Yin DEF to boost her hard-scaling shots, as well as a bonus Crit ATK. If farming the card isn’t an option, Keystone Dropping provides similar buffs at a lesser scale, with no Crit ATK.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

Letty’s most valuable skill as a nuker will be in White Breath, as she will need a turn anyway to reach her full potential at 3P, Midwinter Water’s 1P won’t be enough to get her there as quickly as a card like Witch of Scarlet Dreams. However Midwinter Water should definitely come next, as the Yin DEF it provides to Letty’s hard-scaling is valuable. Invisible Youkai should be her final skill to be leveled, as longer fights where the barrier recovery would be needed are uncommon, though again, its Yin DEF buff is important.
