What are Barrier Status Effects?
Aside from Barriers being used to safely graze incoming attacks, there also exists a mechanic called Barrier Status, commonly known as barrier anomalies. As mentioned in the Advanced Combat Guide, there are five Barrier Status effects present in the game — Burn, Blind, Paralyze, Freeze, and Poison. Each status has an individual turn duration and contains negative effects which is detailed below:
NOTE: n is treated as the number of that Status applied to the unit
Burn: The unit will lose 1.4*n% of their Max HP at turn start, which cannot reduce HP below 1. Their Yin ATK and Yin DEF are also multiplied by 0.875^n.
Blind: The unit’s ACC is multiplied by 0.8^n.
Paralyze: The unit's EVA is multiplied by 0.8^n. It also has a (unknown) chance to inflict Stun.
Freeze: The unit's AGI is multiplied by 0.875^n. It also has a (unknown) chance to inflict Delay.
Poison: The unit will lose 1.4*n% of their Max HP at turn start, which cannot reduce HP below 1. Their Yang ATK and Yang DEF are also multiplied by 0.875^n.
Additionally, every Barrier Status has its own corresponding attack properties called Barrier Status Break (or anomaly breaks) which enables all inflicted Barriers to be broken. These attack properties also get prioritized when elemental breaks are in play within the bullet line:
Incineration: breaks Barriers inflicted with Barrier Status: Burn.
Flash: breaks Barriers inflicted with Barrier Status: Blind.
Discharge: breaks Barriers inflicted with Barrier Status: Paralyze.
Melting: breaks Barriers inflicted with Barrier Status: Freeze.
Toxic: breaks Barriers inflicted with Barrier Status: Poison.
Normally, Barrier Status is a pain to deal with due to the negative effects it brings. However, various units have certain interactions towards at least one Barrier Status as part of their Ability. These interactions include Immunity, Nullify, Reflect, and Benefit, all of which are explained carefully below:
- Immune: The Barrier Status inflicted will not persist on the unit's Barriers. However, if there are any Barrier Status active, it will be pushed in the inner layers of the remaining Barriers.
- Nullify: The Barrier Status inflicted will persist on the unit's Barriers without any of the associated negative effects. (e.g. Blind status will not decrease the unit's accuracy but the status remains).
- Reflect: The unit will quite literally, reflect the same Barrier Status back to whoever inflicted it. The unit will also inherently Nullify the barrier status that she Reflected.
- Benefit: The specified Barrier Status effect will depend upon the unit's Ability. The unit will also inherently Nullify the barrier status that she benefits from.
