The Guide of Goods: Item Overview

Submit Feedback or Error

Are you a better hoarder than me?

Any good RPG (or is it collect-a-thons?) has to have its own wide selection of collectible stuff to shove into your backpack. It can feel great to just pick up a wide range of random things and hoard them all- only to realize you have no idea what it even does for you anymore. Well don’t fret, as this article will give a rundown of every item found within Touhou LostWord, where to find them, and their most practical uses!

A few notes before beginning: any “How to obtain” bolded represents the most effective and/or efficient method of finding that item. This mainly applies to the first few sections, since the later items are more simplistic ones that you can just farm. Additionally, almost all of these items can be obtained from login bonuses, be it Monthly Login, special event logins, or other special occasions. Unless the item has very little practical ways to obtain or is ensured to appear there, these circumstances will not be listed under “How to obtain.”

This article will not go into detail about Fortune Dust, Mirrors of Rebirth and Rings of Fate, as that is better covered in the Fantasy Rebirth-specific article before. It can be found below.

The Hud Elements

The 3 item-related elements seen almost at the top of the screen at all times (Coins, Spirit Points, and Seal Crystals) are some of the most important collectibles in LostWord, primarily due to how often you will use them or how often they are obtained in the first place. Additionally, these resources in particular have facilities that directly connect to collecting them.

Spirit Points (Spirit P)

Where to spend: Battling, Certain Errands

How to obtain: Shrine, Event Exchange

Not to be confused with Spirit Power or Spirit P, the resource used to buff Friends’ attacks in-battle, Spirit Points can be seen as the game’s currency for doing most things. The most obvious application is entering and winning battles, but there is also a small Spirit Point cost for performing Errands, though it is rather minor. Spending Spirit Points on battles, especially while farming or doing challenging content, will be your main concern regarding this resource.

How Spirit Point spending works via battling may seem irregular, but studying it for a bit makes it pretty clear. The total Spirit Points you will spend depends on the quality of the friends you bring along. At base, each Friend has a cost of 5 Spirit Points. Then for every Limit Break and Awakening, the Friend costs 1 extra Spirit Point at a max of 12 Spirit Points. Finally, Friends that have undergone Fantasy Rebirth will cost 14 Spirit Points to deploy. As for entering the stage, 2 Spirit Points are spent upon starting the stage, and from there the rest of your Spirit Points get used up based on if you cleared the stage. If you fail the stage, no extra Spirit Points are spent.

Holding onto enough Spirit Power to continue farming often can be a struggle for players, which is why some advanced techniques involve “5/8 Spirit Point (SP) Farming,” or finding ways to farm events and story card stages without Limit Breaking or Awakening Friends. Fortunately, two methods are present to keep providing you the energy to keep playing stages. The Shrine is a very useful facility that produces 90 Spirit Points per hour and can hold a max of 3,000 Spirit Points at once at max level. It might take a while to fully upgrade this, but this will be your most consistent provider of Spirit Points whenever you run low.

Another, less occasional, provider of Spirit Points comes in the form of Event Exchanges. At varying Event Point prices, 500 Spirit Power can be bought 10 times for a total of 6 stacks per event. This is especially crucial for those event times so you can farm even more frequently and gain even more rewards back! Remember to be somewhat efficient with your farming based on the above rules, and you will be raking the Spirit Power back in no time.

Coins

Where to spend: Upgrading (Friends, Story Cards, Facilities), Prayers, Coin Exchange

How to obtain: Offering Box, Event Exchange, Tasks

Coins can be found from doing practically anything in the game. Clearing stages, completing tasks, and more. Their purposes are just as plentiful: serving as currency (as all coins should do) for basic game activities. These mainly are light fees on upgrading your assets, including Limit Breaking Friends and Story Cards, enhancing those story cards, and, most importantly, praying for Friends while using Seal Crystals. Furthermore, there is a Coin Exchange section in the shop for trading coins for Seal Crystals and other items listed below.

With how often you will be using coins, it is understandable to be concerned about how many you have on you at all times. Fortunately, there are two very important methods for gaining coins. The first method, the Offering Box, is especially helpful when you are starting off and need a bit more coin buffer. At max level, reached by spending enough time to upgrade it at a certain level, the box will produce 300 coins per hour while storing a maximum of 10,000 at one time. This can be a good amount to regularly obtain and support your spendings in the Coin Exchange if your pocket money is a bit tight.

Unfortunately, the facility can be rather limited and does not compare to the primary way you will be getting coins: Events. More specifically, the 4 stacks of 99900 coins offered at a full regular Event Exchange, with the normal exchange rate being 100 Event Points for 10 coins. You rack up Event Points fast most of the time, making it easy to buy out all these cheap stacks and eventually “cap” your coin count. It might seem wrong to invalidate the Offering Box’s purpose and miss out on the daily mission regarding it, but remember that you do not need either that or the Shrine’s daily missions to complete 5 dailies per day.

To note: your coins aren’t literally capped at 999,999, but instead the game keeps count above that and just does not show you. This can be technically done with Spirit Points as well, but you are more likely to burn more of that compared to coins.

Seal Crystals (SC)

Last but certainly not least is the Seal Crystal, a mysterious cube-shaped object in the world of Touhou LostWord that has one very important purpose for gameplay: performing Prayers! For any regular Prayer, it costs 5 Seal Crystals and 1500 coins to perform a singular prayer, multiplied by 10 if you perform a tenfold prayer. Outside of rare occasions, this will be the only way to obtain Story Cards and Friends (which are especially rare to be given for free). This makes them one of, if not the most important resource in LostWord due to the amount of Prayers that come and go.

Compared to Spirit Power and coins, Seal Crystals are not given out at such great amounts. The simplest method for you to get them on your own is completing stages, be it in the Main Story, Hifuu, or events. Every completed stage will very likely reward you with a Seal Crystal, even the cutscene-only stages! Additionally, completing 5 Tasks a day will reward you with 5 Seal Crystals, ensuring a small Seal Crystal profit daily. Furthermore, the Coin Exchange has a chance to have 1 to 2 Seal Crystals purchasable every 8 hours, so check it often! (The exchange resets at 6:00, 14:00, and 22:00 UTC daily.)

Check the Coin Exchange regularly for Seal Crystals, Gold Materials, and more!

Otherwise, the easiest way to consistently get Seal Crystals would be from completing Errands. The details are a lot more complex than something like the Event Exchange, so refer to the article below about how Errands work. To sum a lot up: you can get from 1 to 3 Seal Crystals from certain Errands if you play your cards right, and multiple times a day at that!

As for the best places to spend your crystals? Well, that purely depends on the Friend you want and the banners available! For our own advice, you can check the Should You Pull? articles relevant to the current time period. Though as an aside, the general Prayer that is always accessible is never worth it, as you will never get Festival or Ultra Festival Friends from there or even Exchange Points to exchange for a Friend.

The Strong Rareities

Unlike the above, you will find these items (as well as the rest of this list) will be found in the Items tab of the home screen. These items in particular (God Crystals, Paper Dolls, Divine Paper Dolls, Fortune Dust, and Tokens) are much more limited than the rest and therefore less can be really said about collecting them. However, that just makes them even more important to hold onto and carefully spend!

God Crystals (GC)

Where to spend: Prayers, Costumes, Facilities (School and Dojo)
How to obtain: Limited Errands, very few Tasks, Packs

It’s your everyday Seal Crystal with a fresh coat of rainbow-colored paint. If Seal Crystals are the “gacha currency,” then God Crystals would be defined as the “premium currency.” Requiring 600 God Crystals (but no coins) for a tenfold prayer on the average Prayer, these crystals make up for their rare appearance by guaranteeing at least one Friend per tenfold prayer! This can be a somewhat safer way to pray for Friends, as the Rate-UP Friends on a prayer can be obtained this way. Additionally, God Crystal Step-UP opportunities that occur on most non-Ultra Festival Prayers can be a cheaper way to do multiple God Crystal pulls and increase your chances for the featured Friend.

Of course, being the premium currency means that there are little ways to actually obtain them. Outside of the occasional special event, Limited Errands that possibly reward 2 God Crystals will be the most constant way to collect God Crystals. Otherwise, the only way to find God Crystals will be in-game packs or the Nitori’s Delivery monthly subscription

Gacha isn’t the only place to use God Crystals, as they are also a necessity for purchasing costumes in the Shop and upgrading your School and Dojo to accept more people at once. The Facility upgrades are pretty important for new players to obtain, as they allow for more friends to regain motivation quicker or upgrade their skills more often. Fortunately, you can find a lot of resources for free prayers early on, meaning there is time to spend God Crystals on the facilities.

Paper Dolls

Where to spend: Limit Breaks (General and Festival Friends)

How to obtain: Weekly Tasks, Event Exchange, Scarlet Devil Tower

Just as the top says, Paper Dolls have only one use: Limit Breaking your Friends to unlock more leveling potential and Spell Cards. That’s all, but definitely a very important use. They are a very rare item to obtain, mostly seen as special bonuses. However, one Paper Doll can always be found during the second part of Events. Additionally, as long as you clear 7 Weekly Tasks each week, you will gain a Paper Doll along with 10 Seal Crystals!

Though there is not much to be said about their use, one note to keep in mind is to mainly save these for Festival Friends. These are the more uncommon Friends that will never be found in other Prayers outside of special Prayer events or their own reruns. While you may be able to find a duplicate of a General Friend if you are lucky, the same chance does not apply for Festival Friends, so Paper Dolls are the quickest way to ensure they fully Limit Break and get access to their strong Last Words.

Divine Paper Dolls (DPDs)

Where to spend: Limit Breaks (Ultra Festival Friends)

How to obtain: Every 25 floors of Scarlet Devil Tower, Fortune Dust Exchange, monthly login, packs

It’s your everyday Paper Doll with a fresh coat of- well, you get the idea. These rainbow pieces of paper have the same purpose as their regular variants, except they will be the only way to Limit Break Ultra Festival Friends outside of duplicates. This makes them a lot more important, as Ultra Festival Friends are almost always the most powerful Friends. Of course, this only means they are even rarer than usual.

Of course, the most immediate way to obtain Divine Paper Dolls is similar to God Crystals, found through packs, usually when an Ultra Festival Prayer is ongoing. However, there are still rather accessible methods to find them, mainly by clearing Scarlet Devil Tower when it is playable, with Divine Paper Dolls being rewarded every 25 floors. It may be tough for newer players, but the reward is definitely worth it. Additionally, as of now it has been confirmed that Divine Paper Dolls will be given near the end of every monthly login. Make sure to collect login bonuses throughout the month to get one of these powerful tools!

Epic Paper Dolls

Where to spend: Limit Breaks (Epic Friends)

How to obtain: Fortune Dust Exchange, packs

Just when you thought that DPDs would be the top dog in types of dolls, Epic Paper Dolls are here for the sole purpose of Limit Breaking Epic Friends! Since these Friends are already so powerful, the Epic Paper Doll is currently one of the most rare items in the game to obtain normally. It can be found for 400 Fortune Dust every month in the Fortune Dust Exchange Shop, which will most likely be your best bet in obtaining these. The debut of F1 Reimu provided a special login that grants players an Epic Paper Doll after a week of logging in, so it is possible this login will occur for future Epic Friends.

Tokens

Where to spend: Awakening Friends, Token Exchange

How to obtain: Part Ways with Story Cards and Friends

As Paper Dolls are the only currency for Limit Breaking Friends, tokens are the only way to Awaken your Friends, which allows your Friends to improve their stats and get additional effects from their spell cards. And just like Paper Dolls, there’s not much else to mention regarding strategy in finding or using them.

These can only be collected from parting ways with Story Cards and Friends: 1 from 3* Story Cards, 3 from 4*s, 5 from 5*s, and 10 from Friends. Due to story card stages at the end of each story chapter, these are technically farmable, but even ignoring the very low Story Card drop rate, most Story Cards from stages are worth keeping. If you perform prayers often, you will very likely collect Story Cards and Friend duplicates you will not need to keep and therefore convert to tokens. Just remember to not Part Ways with a Friend before you have a Max Limit Break copy of them.

Other than Awakening, you can spend your tokens in the Token Exchange, although its practicality compared to the Coin Exchange is very minimal. It refreshes two hours after Coin Exchange and can even stock Paper Dolls or Story Card Rituals, although they cost 150 and 100 tokens respectively, which can be pretty costly. Otherwise, it has materials that can easily be purchased or found through other means instead of burning tokens.

The Token Exchange is sadly more limited and costly than Coin Exchange.

Guaranteed Friend/Story Card Ritual

Where to spend: Ritual Prayer

How to obtain: Event Exchange, Event Milestones

What you see is what you get. Both of these “Ritual” items can be used up for a single Prayer that guarantees a Friend or Story Card. The Friend is based off the General Pool available while any story card is ensured to be 4* or above based on the Story Card pool. If you are unsure how the current pool looks, make sure to check the details in-game before turning in a prayer!

As a rather self-explanatory and strong item, they are naturally uncommon to obtain. However, the opportunity always arises upon the start of an event, as one of each can be purchased from the Event Exchange, and usually two of each can be found in the Total Point Milestone. Having Guaranteed Friend Rituals is always nice, as duplicates of General Friends will always be more practical for Limit Breaking than wasting a Paper Doll.

The information regarding who you can obtain can be found in-game via "Details"!

Important Upgrade Materials

A small step below the rest, now we are getting into materials that you can basically find in a lot more places, especially compared to the rarities. These four items in particular (Scrolls, Tiles, Medicine, and Books), have a special ranking system represented by numbers: (1) for Bronze, (2) for Silver, and (3) for Gold. Generally Gold has a much lower drop rate than other rarities. The more you upgrade a Friend, the higher rank (and amount) of these materials you will require. Is there a specific material to prioritize first though?

Scrolls

Where to spend: Upgrading Friends

How to obtain: Daily Stages, Event Stages, Exchange Shops

Scrolls are by far the most important material to hoard up on, as they are directly connected to upgrading your Friends. Tiles and Books might be used for upgrading and learning more skills, but this is the sole purpose of Scrolls. You’re going to need a lot of these things to drive the full potential of your numerous Friends.

To keep it simple, there are 8 types of scrolls and each one mainly correlates to a specific Friend type. Heaven (Blue) for Defense, Earth (Brown) for Support, Wind (Green) for Heal, Cloud (White) for Debuff, Dragon (Yellow) for Attack, Tiger (Orange) for Technical, Phoenix (Pink) for Speed, and Serpent (Red) for Destroy. Usually Dragon and Tiger are usually desired more due to the higher number of high-tier Attack and Technical Friends. For more specific information on which Friends needs what, refer to their character pages.

Unfortunately, since they are so valuable, scrolls usually have the lowest drop rates when compared to tiles and books. Still, you can tip the odds in your favor by completing the daily material stages on Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday. This applies for basically all the three main upgrade materials, so it will only be mentioned here. Event stages have a chance to drop 2 types of scrolls, with Gold drops possible on Lunatic, making them a decent option to go for while grinding the event based on the stages. Finally, keep an eye out for scrolls within the Rare Event Exchange and Coin Exchange to snipe some scroll drops.

If you have too many Bronze or Silver scrolls lying around, fear not! You can exchange 100 scrolls of a lower tier for 1 scroll of a higher tier. This can be an easy way to get enough scrolls for an upgrade if you are just short of a few Silver or Gold scrolls.

Silver and Bronze are a lot more common, meaning you effectively get "pity" higher tier scrolls with enough grinding.

Tiles

Where to spend: Upgrading Friends and Story Cards

How to obtain: Daily Stages, Event Stages, Exchange Shops

Very similar to scrolls, tiles can be spent to upgrade Friends in a similar manner but are also the primary way to enhance Story Cards, along with a small coin fee. The type of tile (be it Plum, Chrysanthemum, Bamboo, or Orchid) depends on the type of Story Card, but with only 4 types of tile compared to the 8 scrolls, it is a bit easier to manage. Tiles are the key to increasing the stats obtained from Story Cards, which will further increase buffs gained in-battle, so remember to take advantage of them even if it’s not directly related to the card’s effects.

As for where to find them, tiles are much more commonly dropped from event stages compared to scrolls. Each event stage drops two types of tiles, just like scrolls. In addition, they have their own daily stage and can be found in the Rare Event Exchange and Coin Exchange as well. There is no mechanic to exchange lower tiered tiles for better ones, so it is more important to keep in mind how many Gold tiles you currently have.

Medicine

Where to spend: Upgrading Story Cards

How to obtain: Event Exchange, Event Milestones

No, this is not the Friend Medicine Melancholy. One of the newer and rather unique materials, Medicine comes in the exact same variety as tiles and the same specific purpose as well, enhancing Story Cards with the same amount of tiles but no card cost. This might seem like a strange addition, but considering how tiles will be needed for specific Friends’ upgrades, medicines can save you resources in tight situations.

Sadly, as a more premium material they are currently more rare, having no way to farm them from event or even normal stages. Instead, Event Exchange and Total Point Milestone will be your best bet for nabbing some medicines of every type. Perhaps they will be found in special login bonuses or another way in the future…

Medicine uses the same amount of Tiles for enhancing, meaning 30 Chrysanthemum tiles (and some coins) are saved here.

Books

Where to spend: Upgrading Friends, Improving Skills

How to obtain: Daily Stages, Event Stages, Exchange Shops

The final of the four main upgrade materials, books are mainly used in the Dojo to increase the level of a Friend’s active skills. They come in three flavors: Attack (Red), Defense (Blue), and Support (Yellow). Along with their Bronze, Silver, and Gold variants are the X versions, books that take longer to consume in the Dojo but provide more experience.

The ordinary books can be found the same way as any other upgrade material: Event and Daily stages, Event Exchange, etc. However, the X books are more sparse, only being found from Event Exchanges and Total Point Milestones. Just like any other material, Gold books are the most rare, and since Gold is still needed for some Friend upgrades, it is usually better to save them for that rather than for skill upgrades.

Furthermore, books can be used while a Friend is training to shorten the time it takes for the Friend to complete its training. This can help if you have a stockpile of books and just need to level up a Friend’s skill posthaste. The values of how much time a book shaves off can be seen below.

X Books are especially good at shortening training sessions.

Less Impressive Items

We’ve had our fun with some pretty neat items, but this bottom part of the list is home to some of the more niche collectibles. Food, Incense and its superior variant may have its uses, but they definitely won’t be as relevant as any of the previous segments. Still, it would be an oversight not to mention them, so let’s go over them now.

Foods

Where to spend: School

How to obtain: Purchase with Spirit Points, Tasks

Food items are the fuel used to make the School facility function. Without it, the school will not provide your Friends with any experience, although Morale will still be refreshed. In that sense, it is important to stay up to date with your food items, but they won’t be doing much else. The most notable of the 6 available are Wagashi, Youkan Jelly, and Unagi Lunch, which increase the EXP gained from School further. However, the last 2 of those 3 require God Crystals to directly purchase, which is not worth performing a large majority of the time.

As for the other foods, they can either be bought in the School menu for a certain amount of Spirit Points or found when completing tasks. Wagashi is usually the most important to keep around, as it restores the most Food points and is the highest non-premium food. Otherwise, there is not much to say about these items, even though they do have “rarities” in the Items menu.

God Crystals can also be used to expand your maximum Food limit, but the extra slots gained are more relevant.

Incense

Where to spend: Increasing Friends’ Stats, Upgrading Friends

How to obtain: Stages, Tasks

A very straightforward item. Six different types of wood to reflect on the different stats, and use them to increase that stat for a specific Friend. The potential a Friend has to grow with increase is based on their own level, meaning they must be level 100 to use the most amount of wood. After they’re done with that, they have no need for more incense outside of some of the earlier parts of Upgrading.

As for where you get these incense, they’re everywhere. Stage clears, task completion…you get so much of it that you should never realistically worry about running out. A very precious resource still, but once you’re done with it, you’re done with it.

Joon preparing to become all-powerful thanks to some wood. Note how each stat increase equates to one incense. (For Rebirthed units, they consume 2 wood per stat instead of one.)

Superior Incense

Where to spend: Increasing Friends’ Stats Further

How to obtain: Clearing Arena

A step-up from ordinary incense, this wood decided to surround it with a fiery aura instead of a rainbow hue. They serve a very similar purpose to incense: increasing a Friend’s stats after they are done with all of their ordinary incense. 100 can be put into HP, with 20 into every other stat. It’s a good way to get an extra buffer from a Friend you enjoy, but unfortunately the material itself is very rare. You can get it daily from clearing the Arena, but outside of special events the amount it comes in will be very low. Stockpile on a bit of it to give a boost to your favorite Friend, but otherwise this will not be a concern.

Click on the Incense button in Enhance to get to superior incense, just like from tiles to medicine.

Superior Incense Burners

Where to spend: Increasing Friends’ Stats Even Further

How to obtain: Arena Exchange (via Weekly Arena), Phantasm Arena Difficulty Clear

As an expansion of the Superior Incense enhancements, Superior Incense Burners allow for you to increase Friends' stats with Superior Incense beyonds its already-established limits! Each use of Burners will allow you to use 100 wood (for HP) or 20 wood (any other stat) to get in some extra buffs. The Burner cost for each additional boost beyond the initial limit will be 10 at first, then 20, then 30, then finally 40, meaning 100 Superior Incense Burners are needed to fully max a Friends' stats via Superior Incense. In case you were wondering, this also means you need 500 HP wood and 100 of every other type of wood to max a Friend out. Pretty costly...

The best way to collect Superior Incense Burners is from the Arena Exchange within the exchange shops, visualized below. You can get Arena Points to obtain burners and even superior incense via clearing the Weekly Arena challenge with high scores! The Phantasm Arena also provides burners, but can be a lot more tricky than weekly.

Remember to do the weekly arena challenges for even more superior incense and burners!
