Character Analysis
Aunn Komano was released on April 28th, 2022 in Festival: Right or Wrong or Doggo?.
During the Four Seasons Incident, Okina Matara placed backdoors on many ordinarily weak beings and inanimate objects alike to fill them with extraordinary power. One of the victims, a komainu statue at the Hakurei Shrine, came to life and became known as Aunn Komano. She appeared to retain memories of being a statue, claiming to have known Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame for a long time. With her power to locate shrines and temples, she is able to overlook and visit other shrines, such as the Moriya Shrine, but it usually leaves her heavily drained of strength, meaning she prefers to just stay behind at Hakurei Shrine. Still, don’t let this make you underestimate her, as her guardian powers still make her an A+ Tier Friend.
Her damage isn’t going to overpower the usual heavy hitters, but Aunn still has a fine grasp on farming. The immediate strength in her Last Word, Guardian Beast Pincer Attack, is that it is entirely made of Sun, making it good for Sun breaks and easy to support with several story cards. The Killer bullets against youkai can be good based on the foe, and the attack contains a lot of Slice and Hard (based on Yang DEF due to being fully Yang-based) scaling to give a small damage boost. The Pre-ATK effect of 3 levels of Yang ATK UP (3T) is nice too, although the extended Yang ATK boost might not be ideal after all of your spells are used up. All in all, Aunn does the best she can to be at least a decent pick for event farming if no one else is around to work on it.
While she only buffed herself while using Guardian Beast Pincer Attack, that does not hold true for the rest of Aunn’s kit. The komainu takes a full role of support, boasting great team utility on her spells and skills alike. The main appeal from her spells is within her first spell, Hound Sign: Mountain Hound’s Walk. Even though it is a Solo-target, she makes sure to heavily cripple them with 3 levels of Evasion DOWN (3T), serving as accuracy support on a singular target. Her skills, however, have great support on all ends. Along with giving herself 1.00 Spirit Power, her first skill, Sanctuary Protector, is a party-wide 2 levels of Yin ATK UP (2T). Her second skill, Animal Divine Envoy, is a speed-based buff by increasing everyone’s Agility and Accuracy by 2 levels (2T). Finally, her third skill, Twin Guardian, takes a defensive approach and buffs the team’s Yin and Yang DEF by 2 levels (2T). Not only do these skills give small damage boosts to Aunn’s secondary scaling, but they serve as very varied supportive buffs.
Her elemental breaking is another good trait for Aunn. While she lacks 0P elements on her shots and in fact needs 2P for any element on them, her spells offer a fair mix of Wood, Earth, and Sun. While there are only 2 Earth bullet lines on Hound Sign: Mountain Hound’s Walk and 2 Wood lines on her second spell, Spinning Top: Koma-Inu’s Spin, Aunn provides the small elemental coverage while retaining the average amount of elemental breaks from some Festival Friends. Combined with the previously mentioned 6 Sun breaks on Guardian Beast Pincer Attack, Aunn serves as both a decent elemental breaker along with a great support.
While it is true that all of these different buffs Aunn does not excel at a specific stat, the coverage she does provide does a lot for any type of team, especially compared to other Support-Type Friends. Considering that Animal Divine Envoy and Twin Guardian have 4 turns of cooldown at max level, Aunn can fairly consistently spam these buffs over a longer fight. Just make sure to protect this doggo, and she will gladly thank you and then some.
The secondary scaling for all of Aunn’s attacks are as follows:
Open-Mouthed Lion:
Slice: 20%/25%/0%/0%/0%/30%
Closed-Mouth Komainu:
Hard: 20%/25%/0%/0%/0%/30%
Hound Sign: Mountain Hound’s Walk:
Slice: 0%/30%/30%/0%/0%/50%
Spinning Top: Koma-Inu’s Spin:
Hard: 0%/30%/30%/0%/0%/50%
Guardian Beast Pincer Attack:
Slice: 50%/0%/0%/40%/50%/60%
Hard: 50%/0%/0%/40%/50%/60%
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on April 30, 2023)
Spell Card
Witch of Scarlet Dreams always has a spot on Friends’ spell card slots for its incredible Spirit Power restoration, although thanks to Aunn’s Accuracy support, she is basically free to run a variety of things on her other slots. Waiting in Comfort is a card that highly stands out for Aunn, considering her Last Word is entirely Yang, making for both an offensive boost from the Yang ATK and even some Hard scaling from the Yang DEF. While a little different, you can look into Ordinary Magician too for even higher Yang ATK UP and even a small amount of CRIT ATK UP, but that only stands out if you’re going for her Killer bullets.
Last Word
Thanks to Aunn’s Last Word being purely Sun element and Energy Bullet, she has two different angles to shoot toward to optimize damage. In this battle, Where the Wind Priestess Is will currently win the battle, giving a flat 35% buff to every Energy Bullet. Mega Flare is still a good secondary option, serving as 30% power UP for any Sun bullet and also being a good offensive stat stick. It mainly depends on what is available to you.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
With how helpful all three of Aunn’s skills are, the skill to prioritize mainly depends on what you require. For a more offensive edge thanks to 2 levels of Yin ATK UP (2T) and 1.00 Spirit Power to herself, go for her first skill, Sanctuary Protector. Her second skill, Animal Divine Envoy, is good for its 2 levels of Agility and Accuracy UP (2T), although its usefulness can depend on if you already have accuracy support covered. Her third skill, Twin Guardian, may only seem good for tanks thanks to 2 levels of Yin and Yang DEF UP (2T), but it can be useful for Hard scaling on other Friends as well. One might veer toward Animal Divine Envoy and Twin Guardian due to their max level decreasing the cooldown from 5 to 4 turns, although 1.00 Spirit Power can be useful in giving Aunn 2.00 Spirit Power turn 1.
Character Strengths
+ Last Word comprised entirely of Sun and Energy bullets
+ All-around supporter: Accuracy, Yang ATK, and defensive buffs
+ Skills with 4-turn cooldown serve as spammable support
Character Weaknesses
- Doesn’t hit so hard, even with Slice and Hard scaling
- Lacks a specific buff to excel at
