Mantras are secret incantations that represent the truth. In terms of magic, they are the words that make up the world, kind of like a programming language. The more accurately a mantra is chanted, the more energy is generated. It is truly a weaponized archaic smile that simultaneously bestows salvation and ruin. Perhaps this attack evolved into her Last Word of the future, Angirasa Veda.

Character Analysis
A12 Byakuren Hijiri was released on April 7th, 2022 in Festival: Fantastic Youkai Monk.
Even if they look human, magicians who delve too deep into the magical arts become youkai, which is the road that Byakuren Hijiri found herself going down. As a youkai herself, she decided to put up an act of exterminating youkai while secretly protecting them to protect her own longevity. She eventually began to value youkai as a whole, recruiting the likes of Ichirin Kumoi and Minamitsu Murasa to her Buddhist temple and appointing Shou Toramaru to serve under the god the temple worshiped, Bishamonten. Unfortunately, her plight to save youkai was eventually found out, leading to Byakuren being sealed in Makai for all eternity. Or at least, the eternity until someone was able to set her free from her chains, allowing her to protect youkai once more and (more importantly) be an S-Tier Friend.
Farming-wise, Byakuren is nothing short of…well, fantastic. While it is a backloaded (1-1-3) attack, her Last Word, Mantra of Truth, is a pretty destructive All-target, 6/6 Sun, Yin nuke. While her Killer bullets are pretty limited, the best likely being Human, and there is Slice scaling on only its second and third lines, its damage potential is definitely better than her original form. If that wasn’t enough, she can increase her Yin ATK by 1 level (3T) upon use of her first and second lines of her Focus shot, Name-Reciting Chant, just in case you need an extra boost. Combining the 2 levels of Yin ATK UP (1T) she gives to herself and 2 levels of Yin DEF DOWN (1T) she gives to all opponents before using Mantra of Truth with the buffs from her other spells and skills, Byakuren will definitely serve well in the field of farming.
Solo Story Card Farms: 3-3-3, 3-6-3, 3-11-1, Hifuu Code E9, and a future story card stage.
Instead of focusing on defense like her L1 form, A12 Byakuren has decided to go all-out on the offensive. She can easily find herself at 10 levels of Yin ATK UP if set up properly. Considering the previously mentioned Yin ATK buffs: she gets 2 levels (3T) from her first spell, Great Magic: Devil’s Recitation, and her character ability gives herself Yin and Yang ATK UP along with CRIT ATK and Accuracy UP for each layer of Burn she has, which she can give herself 2 (3T) from her first skill, Fires of Hokkai, along with 1 (2T) from her second spell, Superhuman: Byakuren Hijiri, with an 80% chance for an extra Burn anomaly. She also can buff everyone’s CRIT ATK further by 2 levels (2T) with her third skill, Sorcerer’s Sutra Scroll, alongside everyone’s Accuracy by 2 levels (2T). While this also gives her Charge, which might get in the way if you wanted to apply her Yin DEF debuff from her Last Word early on, Charge is a better support for attackers and this skill is Byakuren’s primary team support.
Even if her support is lacking, Byakuren still has tricks up her sleeve like any good magician. Fires of Hokkai inflicts every target with 2 layers of Burn (3T) as an additional Yin debuff on all foes. Afterwards, both Mantra of Truth and Name-Reciting Chant can break these anomalies, with Mantra of Truth doing so at 3P and Name-Reciting Chant at 2P, which is rather impressive for a normal shot. Even if these are rather costly, Byakuren is able to restore Spirit Power herself rather quickly, gaining 1.00 Spirit P on both Superhuman: Byakuren Hijiri and Persecuted Heresy. On top of that, Persecuted Heresy restores her own Barrier by 1 layer, which is pretty insane for a skill that only needs 4 turns to cooldown.
Additionally, it is not like Byakuren is lacking in the breaking department as a whole. She has Sun element breaking locked down, not only due to the 6/6 Sun on Mantra of Truth, but her 0P Sun on Name-Reciting Chant means she can spam Sun breaks rather well, especially due to its All-attacking nature. Great Magic: Devil’s Recitation is a bit more unique with 2 Star at 1P, 2 Moon at 2P, and 2 Sun at 3P, but this is still good coverage on the side. Finally, even though Superhuman: Byakuren Hijiri has no elements on it, this does give Byakuren a solid, No-element offensive option to avoid enemies elementally resisting her bullets.
Overall, Byakuren is a very solid offensive magician, proving why she is on top of the other L1 magicians. Unfortunately, she is rather focused on the damage-side of things with little team utility and can still struggle a slight bit from the backloaded nature of her kit. Still, her various breaking and adaptable offense along with her nuking potential puts her on top of the Friends only focused on nuking as she proves herself to be a true Buddhist and peacekeeper.

Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on April 30, 2023)
Spell Card
Because Byakuren has more than enough ways to get herself to 10 levels of Yin ATK UP, it is very unnecessary to put Yin ATK UP on her cards. Instead, go for Spirit Power boosts to assist her backloaded kit. The Witch of Scarlet Dreams is the best for this, as it provides the always reliable 2.00 Spirit Power UP and Dancer in the Puddle works great as an alternative since it provides 1.75 Spirit Power UP. Midnight Tea is in a situation where it can be both as a Yin ATK stat stick and a 1.50 Spirit Power UP card. If you are lacking these options, just go for Yin ATK stat sticks.
Last Word
All of Byakuren’s bullets on her Last Word are Laser, making Occult Circle’s 35% Laser Bullet power UP a flat buff to all of her bullets. It’s the downright best story card for increasing damage, even if the stat sticks do not matter as much. Since every bullet is also of the Sun element, Mega Flare is a decent substitute if you do not have the better option. On the other hand, Anniversary at the SDM gives a staggering 3 levels of Yin DEF DOWN while still buffing Laser Bullet damage by 25%, making it the best for single-target elimination if you obtained this rare card.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
All of Byakuren’s skills are very helpful, so leveling them up will be based on what you require the most. Fires of Hokkai will provide the most, as doubling the Burn anomalies given out both increases Byakuren’s self-buffs as well as the debuffs and anomaly breaks on opponents. From there Sorcerer’s Sutra Scroll doubles the given CRIT ATK and Accuracy buffs, helping out Byakuren herself as well as the rest of the team. Persecuted Heresy appears to give the least in return, as it only increases the Spirit Power gained from 0.50 to 1.00, but it is still very helpful in doing 2P attacks turn 1 or other Spirit Power-based strategies.
Character Strengths
Self-Sufficient Offensive Buffs
A12 Byakuren is quite good at stacking up her own Yin ATK, whether it be by conventional methods like from Spell Card 1 or by Burning herself, buffing offensive stats which is executed via Skill 1 and Spell Card 2. This by extension buffs her CRIT ATK, which can already receive the usual buffs Via Skill 3 too.
Decent Spirit Power Gain
With the help of both Skill 2 and Spell Card 2, A12 Byakuren can make it that little bit easier for herself when it comes to hitting her foes with a fully boosted attack, such as her Last Word which needs 3P to really potentially deal high damage.
Character Weaknesses
Killers are a bit Average
While ones like Human, God and Soul are not the worst Killers in the world, they may leave more to be desired, especially because A12 Byakuren won’t be able to cover all kinds of foes. If she does land her Killers, she can show great promise like via her Last Word, but otherwise it will be nothing special.
Not Much Support
A12 Byakuren’s only ways of supporting the team come from Skill 3, which include CRIT ATK and Accuracy for the team, and while these are helpful for what they are, it’s just not much support, plus it only lasts 2 turns for 2 stages.
