Kami no Tsuki (a Touhou LW original) refers to a moon made of paper―a false or counterfeit moon. An apt temperament for Doremy, who rules over the world where everything is naught but a dream. Doremy is endowed with Earth Phase, of the Dream World, and Star Essence, with her free-spirited nature.

The encompassing and regenerative Earth Phase resists Fire Phase, because fire produces earth, but it is weak to Wood Phase, because wood parts earth.

The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the charming and arrogant Sun Essence.

Doremy Sweet's Spread Shot. She pops out sheep bullets from her dream soul and makes them charge into her targets. Because of the distance between her and her target, she forgoes the usual body press onto her dream soul. Counting sheep is a stereotypical mental exercise for putting oneself to sleep. However, it is theorized that this may not work in Japanese, as the rhythm changes with the change in language. One sheep. Two sheep. Three sheep... Zzzzz.

Doremy Sweet's Spell Card. She unleashes a cascade of bullets that appear to originate from dreams. An anxious dream is a dream where you are plagued with troubles or haunted with grief. This Spell Card is an eternally anxious dream, so it may very well be a dream from which you cannot wake. Incidentally, there is a certain rabbit who is anxious about her job. Maybe there is a reason for that...

Doremy Sweet's Spell Card. She catches her target's dream (probably their dream soul). Dream catchers are charms of protection against bad dreams used by certain indigenous cultures. Doremy can shoot bullets out in a web-like pattern imitating these charms, but it seems like this time she has decided to use the vacuum cleaner (her transformed dream soul?), which she once used in a past incident. And we all know vacuum cleaners are great at sucking up incorporeal beings―be they ghosts or dream souls.

Pillow Agarta

Doremy Sweet's Last Word (a Touhou LW original). A terrifying attack, where she invites her targets into the Dream World through a pillow... Then destroys everything along with their dream! Humans spend a great deal of time resting their heads on pillows, as they are an essential tool for a sound sleep. This has apparently led to pillows taking on a certain kind of mysticism in Chinese culture, with some pillows even designed in the shape of a baku. It is believed that the world of dreams (or perhaps its entrance) is located within pillows, which could explain another theory that when someone sleeps, their soul descends deep down into the earth. The Dream World may seem like a paradise, but it is as otherworldly as the dragon palace beneath the sea or the lands of the dead.

The ruler of the Dream World, Doremy Sweet's ability. At first glance, the two facets of her ability to eat dreams and create dreams seem like they would cancel each other out. However, if you look at it in relation to Keine's similarly worded ability, the two facets may work in unison, which would allow Doremy to edit, maintain, and conserve dreams. However, it is unclear exactly how similar Doremy's ability is to Keine's. The power and scope of Doremy's ability are apparent, considering the feats she has accomplished in past incidents. She once recreated the Lunar Capital in the Dream World and evacuated all the citizens there. And in a separate incident, it was shown that she could freely bring out and dismiss Dream World personalities. Although Doremy is a youkai, she seems fairly good-natured as she has helped resolve incidents and other troubles. This is fortunate for the humans of Gensokyo because if she ever turned evil―it would be a literal nightmare.

Character Analysis

Doremy Sweet was initially released on August 30th, 2021 in the 72H Dream Festival, and later had her own proper Prayer on September 14th, 2021 in Festival: Sweet Dreams.

The ruler of the dream world, Doremy Sweet is what is known as a baku. They're essentially creatures who consume dreams, and resemble either tapirs, or horrific chimeras depending on the legend. Fittingly, Doremy has the ability to create or devour dreams, though there’s not much to fear from her. She’s one of the rare characters in the series who’s almost always polite, though it’s still not a great idea to risk her wrath, as she’s the most dangerous youkai in the realm of dreams - and fittingly, a S-Tier Friend.

For farming, Doremy’s All targeting Last Word, Pillow Agarta packs an extremely solid punch against most bosses, as almost every enemy in the game is either a youkai, a human, or has a connection to the moon, and it has Killer against all three. Do however keep in mind that Doremy’s damage is essentially more than halved against the rare enemy who does not fall into any of these camps, such as Minoriko Aki, and she will not be able to farm those stages.

For harder fights, Doremy’s Last Word is once again the defining point of her kit, dealing a tremendous amount of damage due to its backloaded nature, and being able to scale with Crit ATK, Yin ATK, and Energy DMG UP. She also has a slightly below average access to both Earth and Star, with SC1 having 1/2 Solo Earth Breaks for 0/1 Spirit Power (alongside boosting her Accuracy by 2 Levels for 3 Turns), and SC2 having 1/2 Solo Star Breaks for 0/1/ Spirit Power (alongside lowering the Evasion of a single target by 2 Levels for 3 Turns). Her second skill, Sweet Dream Manipulation, also grants a single target 2 Levels of Yang DEF Down for 2 turns, but that’s about it for support - Doremy is primarily a damage dealer, not a supporter.

All in all, Doremy’s an extremely competent farmer, and for longer fights she can hit outrageously hard due to her threefold scaling. Just make sure to avoid the very rare foes that avoid her Killers, and she’ll be sending your opponents to an eternal spring dream.

By the way, her name’s four jokes at once - a joke on sweet dreams, her first name is just a joke on the Do Re Mi musical scale, sounds like “dreamy,” and a couple of train cars on the Ikoma Cable Line called “Do-Re-Mi” and “Sweet.”

As Doremy already hits 9 Yin ATK UP by herself off of a 3 Spirit Power Lost Word combined with her third skill, Dream Diary, and her first Spell Card already gives Accuracy UP, she’s free to focus mostly on Crit ATK UP to make her Last Word slam the opponent with a nightmare they’ll never forget. Make sure at least one Spell Card is equipped with a source of Spirit Power UP, as both of her Spell Cards are solo targeting and thus she may not necessarily get a 3 Power Last Word ready in a timely fashion without some additional Spirit Power support.

What you want to use for Doremy’s Last Word will heavily depend on the situation. For farming, you’ll want to either use a Story Card that provides Accuracy UP, or one that provides 3 Levels of Crit ATK UP (in other words, Miracle Mallet), depending on if Accuracy UP alone is enough for her to reliably kill her target or not. For harder fights, since her first Spell Card, Dream Sign: Eternally Anxious Dream, already grants Doremy Accuracy UP, and you can easily apply Crit ATK UP to her other Story Cards, you’ll want to supply Doremy with a source of Energy DMG UP, with the best possible option being Where The Wind Priestess Is due to providing the highest amount.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

Due to Doremy's Last Word scaling primarily off of yin, Dream Diary is her most effective skill and the one you will want to level up first. After that, Dream Soul Manipulation can be levelled up to provide support for Yang based teammates. Finally, Sweet Sleep Pillow can be levelled up for some extra Spirit Power in longer fights, although it isn’t a huge priority and can wait until other characters are trained up first.
