Character Analysis
Eirin Yagokoro was released on August 10th, 2021 in Festival: Eternal Exiles of the Moon.
Eirin Yagokoro, the Brain of the Moon, was once one of the greatest sages the lunarians ever had. It only makes sense - she’s almost certainly Omoikane, a god of wisdom and one of the oldest around. Once, she made the Hourai Elixir for Kaguya, and got the princess stuck in eternal life and exile for it. Out of guilt for her actions, she followed Kaguya to the earth, and later consumed the Hourai Elixir herself. Now having settled down after the actions of Imperishable Night, Eirin serves as Gensokyo’s local pharmacist, using her ability to create any medicine for the betterment of all, at low prices too. The Eirin of old may have never done such a thing, but the Eirin of today is a more altruistic and polite woman - but still one with no tolerance for foolishness, or really anyone who can’t understand what she has to say. That genius is on your side now as an A-Tier Friend.
For farming, Eirin’s high values of Yin and Yang ATK Up and her All targeting Last Word are unfortunately somewhat let down by it being 1-1-3, even with her second skill granting her +1 Spirit Power right away. She can certainly farm some stages, especially if she hits a weakness, but just make sure to steer clear of any resistances.
For harder fights, Eirin’s ability to create medicine isn’t just for show. Between her utterly colossal health pool and access to two 30% healing skills on short cooldowns, combined with Revival: Seimei Yuugi -Life Game- providing the entire party with 1 Barrier every time she uses it, Eirin has healing support in spades. Additionally, Curse of the Heavens: Apollo 13 provides all targets with 2 layers of Poison Barrier for 2 turns, with a 60% chance for 1 more - great Yang support in its own right, or a fantastic chance for a teammate to Anomaly Break them (most notably Medicine Melancholy). She also packs the rare and coveted Power Link, fantastic for giving a teammate some Spirit P right away.
Offensively, Eirin’s far from a slouch either. Her Last Word being 1-1-3 may be a detriment to her farming ability, but it lets her pack a pretty impressive punch in harder fights. Unfortunately its mixed status makes it somewhat harder to support Eirin, but it still hits hard even without support.
It’s not all great though. Eirin’s Barrier Break ability is rather low, with both of her Spell Cards possessing only Moon breaks, with a very below average amount of 1/1/1/2 for 0/1/2/3 Spirit Power. To an extent, Curse of the Heavens: Apollo 13’s 1 Spirit Power on use mitigates this, but Eirin’s not very good at Barrier Breaks.
Overall though, Eirin’s definitely a potent healer that any team would be glad to have. Just don’t act foolishly around her, lest you receive a glare and a condescending sigh.
Here are the chances for Eirin’s secondary effects (per bullet):
Arrow Siege:
Chance for CRIT Evasion DOWN: 30%/30%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Gold God Web:
Chance for Paralyze: 30%/0%/0%/0%/0%/30%
Heaven Spider's Butterfly-Catching Web:
Chance for Stun: 0%/0%/0%/0%/0%/60%
Story Card Recommendations
Spell Card
Eirin unfortunately doesn’t have very many great options for Story Cards. If you’re trying to Break with her, she absolutely needs Spirit Power UP due to her second Breaks both being at 3 Power. Otherwise, she ideally wants to use an Accuracy UP Story Card the turn before her Last Word, and a Yang ATK UP 2 turns before it (if possible). For Stat Sticks, look to anything that has both Yang and Yin ATK, preferring Yin.
Last Word
Due to the higher than normal Accuracy of Eirin's Last Word, combined with its heavy amount of Laser, Ordinary Magician is pretty much the best option Eirin has. Any Story Card that grants Laser DMG Up is also a good option, and lastly if you have no Laser DMG Up, any Story Card which provides Accuracy UP will do. If you're farming with Eirin, you may prefer Accuracy UP for consistency. If she's buffed up to the moon, you can look to The Unmoving Great Library instead for maximum damage.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Firstly, Golden Pill Fragment should be levelled up, as the additional Yin ATK it provides Eirin at level 10 is a great boon - don't fear the self-Poison, Eirin's Character Ability leaves her immune to the downsides. Afterwards, Diluted Ochimizu should get a few quick levels, up to 5 or so, for some quick extra healing. Finally, if you want to use Eirin to farm, prioritize Moon Intellect: otherwise, finish off Diluted Ochimizu and save Moon Intellect for last.
Character Strengths
+Fantastic amount of Healing and Barrier restoration
+Great Poison Barrier support, for either Anomaly Breaks or supporting Yang Attackers
+Last Word can deal a lot of damage if given a turn to set up
Character Weaknesses
-Poor Barrier Break potential
-Backloaded Last Word
-Hard to support
