Character Analysis
Mokou (Defiant Blue Phoenix) was released on February 10, 2023 in Prayer “Defiant Blue Phoenix Ultra Festival”.
Twice now Mokou has shed her flames of eternal vengeance for a protective role. Taking on the role of Codename: Commander, the Defiant Blue Phoenix is the latest rebel to sweep the field. Her determination to keep her allies safe at all costs manifests as a Defense-Class Friend who boosts her party’s Defense, recovers Barriers and shields them from the ravages of Fire and Sun Elements.
As a Defensive Support and Tank
- Buffs team Yang DEF and Yin DEF via Spell Cards
- Buffs her own Yang DEF, Yin DEF, Crit DEF and Crit EVASION via Burn Anomaly
- Multiple sources of Focus UP
- Multiple sources of team Barrier recovery, with additional Barriers for herself via Last Word
- Several sources of personal Healing, including from Freeze anomalies
- Can reduce damage allies take from Fire and Sun Elements by 85% via Skill 2
As an Attacker
- High Yang ATK and Yang DEF stats to scale with
- Bullet lines feature major Fire breaks and minor Sun breaks. Her second Spell Card hits rainbow Elements (Sun/Wood/Earth/Fire/Metal/Water)
- Increases Accuracy via Spell Card 2 and Last Word
- Increases Crit ATK via Last Word.
- Self supply of Spirit P through Skill 1
As a Utility
- Inflicts and breaks Burn barriers on enemies via Focus Shot, Spell Card 2 and Last Word

- Minor Spirit P support via Skill 3
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on April 30, 2023)
Spell Card
Mokou will have to compensate for her lack of consistent Accuracy buffs should she lack teammates to help her in that area. Tools of the Trade thus returns as a cheap and easy to recommend card to outfit her with to take care of that shortcoming. The Witch of Scarlet Dreams is next to allow her to fire on all cylinders (Though Mountain of Faith would do better, especially on her Spell Card 2). Finally, to compensate for her lack of offensive support, consider going with Serene Sage to further boost her own Yang DEF while debuffing enemy Yang DEF.
Last Word
Surprisingly, Satori’s personal Naraka works best in this slot. If you are unable to provide her an MLB version, however, Worlds in Hand, Bloody Order and Bonds of Blood will all increase her output as well.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Skill 1, Soul Ignition should be prioritized mainly for the Spirit P boost it affords her to start off strong, while helping her allies with Yang ATK buffs. After that, players can opt to go either with Skill 2, Burning Suit to power up her DEF further, or Skill 3, Heat Dispersion to provide her team Barrier and Spirit P recovery, as well as some personal healing.
Character Strengths
Spreads her Immortality Around
A generous B5 Mokou is a frightening ally to have. Her ability to help her team Graze, heal or almost ignore damage sources is not to be trifled with. Coupled with her multiple sources of Focus UP and additional DEF buffs and healing, Mokou will keep your team healthy for a very long time.
Strong Barrier Breaker
Most of B5 Mokou’s bullet lines feature an element that works on the enemy. Most of these are focused on Fire, with a minor degree in Sun, as well as a smattering of additional elements she’s taken co-curriculum classes for on her Spell Card 2. Speaking of which, B5 Mokou uses this attack to inflict and simultaneously break Burn Anomalies on this attack.
Character Weaknesses
Sky High Damage Potential, but Lacks the Killer Instinct
B5 Mokou benefits from having both a high Yang ATK stat and a high Yang DEF stat she can take great advantage of with her Hard Scaling, such as in her Last Word. With a ton of Yang DEF buffs already on her kit, all you need to do is fill in for her Yang ATK, CRIT ATK and Accuracy before you start seeing those damage numbers rise like a phoenix. However, one thorn in B5 Mokou’s side is her Killer range. Having Killers such as Capital, Kaiju, Lunar Base, Underground Waste Ward, Machine, Magician and Sage may be great against specific enemies, but B5 Mokou can’t make a Killing against the widest range of enemies sadly. That said, her naturally high Yang ATK, Yang DEF and Hard Scaling help a lot, so maybe in some cases, one might not even need B5 Mokou to connect her Killers in order to get the job done, as an enemy being weak to Fire might be all it takes. For the time being, just imagine what she could do with a Max Limit Broken copy of the NAЯAKA Story Card.
Lacking Versatility in Breaking
While B5 Mokou is able to break the Barriers of enemies just fine via all her Fire breaks and her handful of Burn anomalies, that’s all the breaks you can make practical use of in her kit. While she is great with what she has access to, the best you have aside from those are the very few Sun breaks she has, since her Spell Card 2 only has 1 of several elements, and the Freeze break in her Last Word can only be accessed via 3P, not seeing a whole lot of use.
