Character Analysis
Kaguya Houraisan was released on August 10th, 2021 in Festival: Eternal Exiles of the Moon.
Kaguya Houraisan, the Eternal and Instant Sinner, is the famous princess from the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. A few things are different from the myth, chiefly among which is that Kaguya is utterly immortal, thanks to consuming the Hourai Elixir. Whilst seemingly driven only by her boredom on the surface, the princess primarily seeks to figure out her place within the earth, now that she no longer idles her days away in eternal exile. But of course, she also aims to sate her boredom too, leading her to lend you her aid as a selfish attacker and a A+ Tier Friend.
For farming purposes, Kaguya does a solid job of farming multi-boss Event stages, in spite of her seemingly back-loaded Last Word. This is because the first and third bullets have tremendous Hard scaling, combined with her ability to immediately boost two times on the first turn thanks to her skills. She doesn’t hit quite as hard as the best at it, so she’ll need more investment, but she’ll definitely get the job done.
For harder fights, Kaguya has two primary jobs. First of all, her Last Word’s Hard scaling gets even better when she has a chance to both set up and gain access to a third boost, though the difference isn’t as dramatic as you’d expect from most 1-1-3s. Still, it’ll hit really hard. Secondly, thanks to both of her Spell Cards granting 1.5 Spirit Power on use, she can throw out a ton of either Metal or Fire breaks depending on your needs - and still have Power left over for her Last Word! That being said, do watch out for the Rebound on Salamander Shield.
Overall, Kaguya’s a solid attacker who brings both damage and Barrier Breaks to the table. She doesn’t have much utility, but she’s a selfish princess from the moon, what can you expect?
Here are the chances for Kaguya’s secondary effects and HP consumption, alongside her Hard scalings (per bullet):
Divine Treasure: Buddhist Diamond:
Chance of Yang DEF UP: 0%/0%/0%/50%/0%/50%
Divine Treasure: Salamander Shield:
Hard: 50%/0%/50%/0%/60%/0%
Consumes HP: 15%/0%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Hourai’s Sea of Trees:
Hard: 80%/0%/80%/0%/85%/0%
Recovers HP: 0%/0%/0%/15%/0%/15%
Chance of Yang DEF UP: 0%/100%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Story Card Recommendations
Spell Card
Kaguya’s Story Card priorities are a bit complicated. First of all, you’ll want at least one Spirit Power boosting Story Card if she’s being used to Break. Afterwards, or if she’s not breaking, you want to use one copy of a Yang ATK UP Story Card to boost her Yang ATK before using her Last Word - Members of the Yakumo Family is particularly preferred, due to it also having Yang DEF as a stat. Since she already hits 9 Yang ATK from just one Yang ATK UP Story Card plus her Last Word and third skill, afterwards the remainder slots should be filled with Yang DEF UP, which is at the moment only Bunbunmaru Newspaper. If you need stat sticks, look to cards with both Yang ATK and Yang DEF on them, with Yang ATK being preferred if you don’t have cards with both.
Last Word
Due to the fact that Kaguya’s Last Word consists primarily of both Wood and Energy, and she already boosts her own Yang ATK and DEF by a lot, Thunder Beat is her best pick, providing a boost to both of those alongside some Yang DEF to spare. For farming purposes, you may instead prefer Accuracy UP for the sake of consistency.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Firstly, all three of Kaguya's skills should be leveled up to 5: it doesn't take much time at all, and they all receive fantastic benefits at that point (most notably, by having her first two skills each at 5, Kaguya can boost her Last Word twice on turn 1). Afterwards, Impossible Tasks should be leveled up to 10, due to its Yang ATK. Then, Instant Determination should be leveled up, for the Yang DEF. Finally, Exiled Princess can be saved for last, as while the extra Spirit Power is certainly nice, it's not quite a priority.
Character Strengths
+Highly damaging All targeting Last Word with fantastic Hard scaling that hits hard right away and scales well too for longer fights
+Average access to two elements, Fire and Metal. She's also got Wood access if you're willing to burn her Last Word on that.
+Gains a lot of Spirit Power
Character Weaknesses
-Selfish attacker with no utility outside of Breaks
-Kaguya's second Spell Card hurts herself
