Shunai (a Touhou LW original) refers to mist that appears in spring. This is an apt temperament for Koakuma, who assists in blocking out the sun as Patchouli's familiar. Koakuma is endowed with Star Essence as she is an astral being.

The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the charming and arrogant Sun Essence.

Fairies can be found anywhere, but many of those in the Scarlet Devil Mansion are dressed like maids. It isn't clear whether the fairy maids actually perform maid work. Some say they barely do, which is why the head maid is so busy, while others say some fairy maids help clean and prepare the mansion for parties. Even when it comes to work, fairies are free-spirited, and they do exactly as much or as little as they please. It's almost as if they are playing maids. Koakuma (probably) works harder than the fairies, so the ones in the library (should) listen to what she says...

Some gather for ceremonial summonings on their way home from work, while others seek to constantly access the power of devils by wearing talismans. Recently, it seems you can even use shikigami known as ''apps'' to summon devils. Pretty interesting, right? I can't wait to be summoned by you someday.

Magic Sign: Devildom Come

A Spell Card of Koakuma from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). She recreates aspects of Makai in this attack. It's said Heaven is a place you go, while the divine kingdom is a place that comes to you. If that's the case, wouldn't Hell be a place you go and Makai be one that comes to you? But what does ''come to you'' even mean here? In the outside world, there are plans to transform planets to be more Earth-like... It means something similar to that. For devils living abroad, Makai's arrival will be like a homecoming of sorts. How they feel about that, however, surely differs from devil to devil.

First Elixir - Cinnabar

The Last Word of Koakuma from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). She recreates the first magic elixir in this attack. It's a naturally occurring scarlet-colored ore known as cinnabar. The sharper ones among you may have just thought to yourself, ''Aren't philosopher's stones meant to be scarlet-colored too?'' But philosopher's stones can only be created with a miracle and an extensive knowledge of alchemy. They couldn't possibly occur in nature... could they? In reality, there have been no cases of the elixir of immortality being made from cinnabar―at least, no publicly confirmed ones. (Of course, there have been no cases of gold being created either.) Even if a formula for creating the elixir of life did exist, it surely would not be distributed free of charge. As a result, there is no proof that philosopher's stones are made of cinnabar. The mysteries surrounding cinnabar remain elusive.

The ability of Koakuma from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). This Koakuma's ability is unknown, but it doesn't seem all that different from our Koakuma's. However, as one of those responsible for instigating the Scarlet Mist Incident and as a member of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, it's hard to say she's not somehow related to the incident's prolonging.

It's unclear whether our Koakuma is Patchouli Knowledge's familiar, and whether or not she was born in Makai is also shrouded in mystery. However, the fact this Koakuma was summoned from Makai and is currently Patchouli's familiar is beyond doubt. This Koakuma doesn't have a name either and is still referred to by her species name. This is because if you were to give her a name, her very nature could change... Furthermore, because she takes the form of a near-pure devil, there are rumors that, initially, she didn't possess a psychical form. The validity of said rumors is uncertain, though.

Being skeptical, you could say due to the nature of the magical technique of summoning, it's impossible to prove that the target remains the same after being summoned... In other words, before she was summoned, Koakuma may have had a different appearance, ability, and different memories. Seeing as this is impossible to verify, let's leave it there. However, if you could use the full potential of the flexible and polymorphic nature of devils... prolonging an incident would be a simple task. One wonders whether this world's Patchouli has realized this.

Unlike other support units, Koakuma’s spell cards do not provide much damage output and so, it is recommended to focus on using them to support the party instead. First of all, Worlds in Hand will remain a strong candidate for filling the slots as everyone nowadays have powerful Killers and thus, benefit from CRIT ATK buffs. If you’re looking to maximize her YIN ATK support capabilities, Mansion of Memories will be your best bet as it is currently the only party YIN ATK buffing story card available. Lastly, to complement her high enough party Spirit Power support, having Myouren Temple Anniversary can increase this further but otherwise, other cards such as Ability Cards? also work if you are looking for Accuracy support instead.

Dropping Keystones

The Secret God of the Sky

Dropping Keystones will be one of the best story cards for her Last Word as it provides a 60% boost to the majority of her attack. However, if you would like to have consistent damage throughout instead, The Secret God of the Sky will be your best bet as it provides a 50% boost to all damage done plus she also gains 2 CRIT ATK buffs which increase her damage output assuming that she hits her Killers.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

It is recommended to prioritize leveling up Skill 3, "Darkness 000" as it provides a significant boost to the party's YIN ATK and Spirit Power, while also inflicting a debuff on enemies in the form of Barrier Status: Burn. In comparison to the other skills she has, this proves to be the best due to how many relevant effects the skill can dish out in one go.

Next, Skill 1, "Formless 0", will be prioritized to increase its Spirit Power UP capabilities which is overall a better choice to go for in comparison to her 2nd skill due to how universally important Spirit Power UP to party is.

Finally, Skill 2, "Emptiness 00", provides the party with extra defense against Star Element attacks, increases YIN DEF, and adds an extra layer to the party's Barrier. This skill focuses on providing defensive support for the party which can be beneficial for survivability purposes or bullet scaling.

Character Strengths

Very good supportive capabilities

The cute scarlet-haired nameless devil gives it her all as a Support unit to support her party by providing a wide variety of buffs. Her Yin-based support capabilities are above average and can be convenient to have if you want to easily set up offensive buffs for the party. She is also able to support the CRIT ATK and Accuracy department via her Spell Cards (and graze for CRIT ATK sustainability), which can prove beneficial most of the time due to how crucial both buffs are in having consistent and high damage outputs. For universal support, she is capable of adding barrier layers and granting high Spirit Power to the party, not to mention that she can easily provide 1.50 Spirit Power UP to the party through her skills alone. Her Skills are also good in terms of cooldowns but not as amazing as other Support units.

Her Spell Cards have some fragmented elements embedded within, which is usually not a good sign. However, her Spell Cards and Last Word’s main elements can be easily accessed at 2.00P so it’s a fair trade perhaps.
