Character Analysis
Luna Child was released on May 11th, 2021 as part of the starting roster.
Luna Child is a supporting member of the “Three Fairies of Light,” collaborating with the leader, Sunny Milk, and fellow member, Star Sapphire. The fairies stick close to each other to perform the perfect pranks throughout Gensokyo, mainly on any poor human victim they can find. Her strengths shine the most whenever the moon is out, but she can still use her ability to mute sound anytime to remove her presence and cause more mischief. Combined with Sunny Milk’s ability to refract light and appear invisible, they make the perfect, stealthy pair. While a bit clumsy at times, Luna Child has more common sense than other fairies, leading her to be a B-tier Friend in Touhou LostWord.
Luna Child’s Solo-target Last Word, Extra-Supermoon, is decent enough as a farming tool. Her hard scaling makes the half-Moon attack a decent option, even if it isn’t the most powerful.
The main appeal for Luna Child’s participation in difficult fights is her access to the Moon element. Her first spell card, Moon Sign: Lunatic Rain, can give 2 Moon breaks instead of 1 at 2 Spirit Power and her second spell card, Moonlight: Silent Storm, hits every enemy with 1 Moon break. Although none of her spell cards or Last Word have any effects upon use, she can buff her own Yin ATK by 2 levels using her second skill, Dark Moon. Her character ability also lets her gain 1 level of Yin ATK UP for each graze used in a turn, giving her 5 total levels of Yin ATK UP before attacking. Furthermore, Luna Child’s Power Link allows for one Friend to obtain Spirit Power upon swapping in with her or the entire party to gain Spirit Power when she swaps into the battle. It can give her a nice, supportive role after she has lost her use from spending all of her spell cards.
That’s about it for what Luna Child provides, as the rest of her skills mainly focus on decreasing her own Focus. Decreasing your chance of being attacked is sadly nothing that notable. This fairy is still a solid choice when Moon breaks are needed while hitting rather hard.
Here are the chances for Luna’s secondary effects, alongside her Hard scaling (per bullet):
Phonon Master: Hard 0%/0%/0%/0%/0%/20%
Moonlight: Silent Storm: Hard 0%/0%/0%/0%/20%/20%
Extra-Supermoon: Hard 0%/0%/35%/35%/35%/35%
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on October 31, 2022)
Spell Card
Giving Spirit Power UP cards to Luna Child helps her access the additional Moon breaks on Moon Sign: Lunatic Rain and when needed. Increasing Accuracy will also help make her spell cards and Last Word strike a lot more consistently.
Last Word
As she lacks accuracy for consistent damage output, Luna Child will require ACC UP cards in order to achieve this. If her accuracy issue is covered by external factors, giving her Unknown Barrier Team allows high improvement in her damage output.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Outside of slightly increasing an additional Yin ATK or Yin DEF level UP from Dark Moon or Noise Cancelling respectively, the only notable improvement to Luna Child’s skills is decreasing the cooldowns from 5 to 4 turns at Level 10. Covert Ops only gives herself more Focus levels DOWN, which does not provide any real combat advantage.
Character Strengths
+Access to Moon breaks
+Solo-target Last Word can hit somewhat strong
+Power Link
Character Weaknesses
-Damage lags behind other hard-hitters
-Not a great amount of Moon breaks
-Low support
