Hiderigami (a Touhou LW original) refers to drought, but at the same time it also refers to a god that causes drought. Perhaps the temperament is connected to how this version of Marisa keeps radiating fiery heat from the heavens...? Because of this Marisa's peculiar circumstances, her Phase and Essence endowments are completely different from the usual. Sun Essence (the celestial star that provides heat), Moon Essence (the giant star of the night brimming with magic), and Star Essence (celestial bodies in general) all fall under the rules of astronomy and are thus contained within this Marisa, making them ineffective against her. Conversely, Wood Phase, which is free-spirited and full of young life, is her weakness.

Marisa Kirisame (the Witch of Scarlet Dreams)'s Spread Shot (a Touhou LW original). This attack uses the pillars of fire that burst out from the bewitched mini hakkero. When the mini hakkero turned into a simple tsukumogami during a certain incident, this was the only technique Marisa could use, if ''use'' is the right word for the out-of-control flames. However, this version of Marisa has been a witch for a very long time, and the mini hakkero that was always at her side awoke once more as a tsukumogami. It is a little strange though, since normally tsukumogami are supposed to be formed from tools that are no longer being used...

This was originally an experimental shot that Marisa almost never used. This version of Marisa is specialized in emitting heat, but that also means that she is discharging cold air in a different way. She is probably using this exhaust heat―rather, exhaust cold―to stabilize her former experimental shot.

In regular magic, celestial bodies are nothing more than countless small skylights that shine brightly. However, as far as this attack is concerned, this version of Marisa treats celestial bodies as spherical worlds like the earth and the moon. Maybe this is because Marisa has accurately deciphered literature from the outside world... Or is it secondhand knowledge from elsewhere?

Marisa Kirisame (the Witch of Scarlet Dream)'s Last Word (a Touhou LW original). This attack shoots forth a red meteor. You could say it's this Marisa's Blazing Star. The real-life Garnet Star which this attack is named after is a strange star with fluctuating brightness. Perhaps this Marisa came up with the attack after finding out about it, interpreting it as a capricious star that sometimes comes closer and sometimes moves farther away.

It is likely that this version of Marisa's ability started off the same as our version of Marisa's ability, but as she changed, so did her ability. However, it is still unknown. It is probably deeply connected to stars. Red stars are considered bad omens, so perhaps her ability itself is an omen. Stars are used as another way to talk about fate and destiny. It is also said that you become a star after death. There may be a strange correlation between human lives and the stars in the sky. In other words, you could say that existence itself is in the astral plane, and those with physical bodies on earth are but astral dreams―no more than shadows. One by one, the stars in the night sky connect the astral plane and the shadows... It is just an idea, but the theory behind it is solid.

Marisa Kirisame, the Witch of Scarlet Dreams (often referred to as Marisa Alter), hasn’t had an easy time of it. Between having her best friend abducted, her name sealed away, and her powers going out of control, she had to be locked away within the Scarlet Devil Tower for hundreds of years for her own and everyone else’s good. 

Much like how a star melts down anything in its path, Marisa serves as a farmer without parallel. Due to the sheer abundance of buffs in her kit, further discussed in the next section, Marisa deals explosively high damage from the very first turn - possessing enough firepower to muscle past even enemies who resist Star. Furthermore, Marisa is blessed with an All targeting Last Word, meaning she can farm virtually any event stage. Lastly, Marisa also has two extremely powerful All-targeting Spell Cards - making her one of a select few units who can single handedly farm many three-wave stages.
Solo Stage Farms: 2-7-1 (slow), 3-3-3

For hard fights, Marisa is an exceptionally powerful attacker and a top tier breaker who can also bring some offensive support to the table. Firstly, her already exceptionally powerful All Last Word becomes explosively powerful when Marisa is given time to set up and receive support from her allies. Even if she lacks team support, she can still raise her Yin ATK to the heavens thanks to her first Spell Card. If that wasn’t enough, both of Marisa’s Spell Cards apply Burning Barriers to all foes, further magnifying her own damage output and providing offensive support to any Yin attacking teammates. She also provides further offensive support in the form of enemy Evasion DOWN and CRIT DEF & Evasion DOWN.

Should you happen to need to go for a Full Break, rather than simply rely on Burning Barriers and ATK Up, Marisa still stands as one of the best elemental breakers in the game, challenging even some anomaly breakers. Firstly, she has access to both Fire and Water, with 1/1/2 Breaks at 0/1/2 Power for her Spread and Focus Shot respectively, giving her highly spammable access to both elements. Additionally, both of her Spell Cards have extremely potent Elemental coverage - due to them both providing 3 Breaks of 2 separate elements at 3 Power, and having All targeting, it’s practically guaranteed that Marisa can get at least three or even six Breaks in most fights, especially ones in which no enemy weaknesses overlap, which become increasingly common. Combine that with access to Star, Earth, and Fire, and very few people can match Marisa’s Elemental coverage. Lastly, Marisa’s second Spell Card also provides her with 1 Spirit Power on use, which provides her with an abundance of Power and allows her to break faster than almost any other character can.

Perhaps the worst you could say about the Witch of Scarlet Dreams is that you can’t use a second copy of her in a fight. Otherwise, she’s the full package: she deals incredible damage, provides solid team support, and provides top tier breaking potential. 

As a side note, all of her skill names are actually the names of stars - many star catalogs refer to them with designations that are a combination of numbers and letters. Her first skill is the star Mira, using its designation in the Bonner Durchmusterung catalog. Her second skill is the star Aldebaran, using its designation in the Henry Draper catalog. Lastly, her third skill is the star Arcturus, using its designation in the Luyten Two-Tenths catalog.

Story Card Recommendations

Spell Card

As Marisa already buffs her own YIN ATK UP with her first Spell Card, and has no Accuracy problems, a Spirit Power restoring card is her best bet to allow her to get as many Breaks off as possible. Additionally, when it comes to hard content, she benefits from YIN ATK UP and CRIT ATK UP story cards such as Overwhelming Firepower and Miracle Mallet to optimize her Last Word damage.

Last Word

Since Marisa’s Last Word is entirely Yin, and does not struggle with Accuracy, a Story Card that provides Yin ATK UP such as Overwhelming Firepower will be her best bet. Failing that, any Story Card that boosts the DMG of Body Bullets such as Eating Contest will be an acceptable filler.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

Firstly, level up HD 29139 as the enemy Evasion down it provides is crucial for Marisa’s damage output. Secondly, BD -03 353 should be prioritized, as it provides a more stable and consistent damage increase than LTT14184. Lastly, LTT14184 whilst still an extremely potent skill is saved for last due to being a somewhat inconsistent damage increase.
