Character Analysis
Sannyo Komakusa was released on April 7th 2023 in the VS. Divergent Spirits Ritual Prayers Pool.
Hailing from the Komakusa Gambling Den on Youkai Mountain lives a yamajorou, shrouded in tobacco smoke named Sannyo Komakusa (also known as Komakusa-Dayuu). This bookmaker most notably had an encounter with a shrine maiden, magician, maid and wind priestess in a previous incident where ability cards were the talk of the town, but these days, she expertly plays her hand by subjecting guests of her den to the smoke in the air.
Sannyo Komakusa has booked her place into Touhou LostWord as a Debuff-Class Friend who takes advantage of Fire breaks and utilizes Poison and Blind anomaly utility.
As a Debuffer
- Debuffs the Yin DEF of all enemies via Skill 3 and Last Word, as well as on a single enemy on her first Spell Card.
- Reduces the Evasion of her enemies with her second Spell Card.
- Yin ATK debuffs are scattered in her bullet lines of her Focus Shot, Second Spell Card and Last Word
As a Utility
- Multiple ways to inflict Blind and Poison anomalies both to herself and to enemies, most notably through Skills.
- Breaks Blind and Poison anomalies via Second Spell Card at 2P and 3P respectively. Blind breaks are also achieved via Spread Shot at 3P.
As an Attacker
- Abundance of Fire and Wood elements, with 6 Fire breaks in her Last Word.
- Increases her Yin DEF via second Spell Card, contributing to her Hard Scaling output.
- Gains 1.00 Spirit Power from her Second Skill.
- Gains a stage of Accuracy per boost performed.
- Moderate Killer range (includes Youkai Mountain, Collector and Noble)
As a Tank
- Recovers 35% of her HP from her first Spell Card’s Post-ATK.
- Gains +1 of Yang DEF, Yin DEF, CRIT DEF and CRIT Evasion through Poison and Blind Anomalies inflicted on her
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on April 30, 2023)
Spell Card
To keep making good use of Sannyo’s breaks on her Spell Cards, The Witch of Scarlet Dreams and Midnight Tea are great examples of cards that will go a long way in providing Spirit Power. That said, if you are looking for Yin ATK buffs, make sure to take advantage of cards like the classic Overwhelming Firepower! As for maximizing Spell Card damage, Nameless Adventurers and its +50% increase in Normal Bullets is a great fit for Spell Card 1, with Infinity Garden being rather effective for Spell Card 2 due to its increase in Laser and Wood bullets by 50% and 40% respectively.
Last Word
Technically speaking, NARAKA is far and away with a combined 90% boost for Sannyo’s full Fire+Energy Last Word, but with it being impossible for this card to be in full effect, we must wait warmly until more copies of this card come by. For now though, Worlds in Hand is your best bet, also boosting Sannyo’s Last Word via Fire and Energy, but by 55%, accompanied with a teamwide CRIT ATK bonus. As for an option that also has +2 Yin ATK stages, we have Unknown Barrier Team and its +50% Boost in Energy bullets, and if we are looking for 50% Fire, Bonds of Blood does the trick very well, with a high Yin ATK stat stick. There are also a few more 50% Boosting cards that Sannyo can play with too, with Choose an Animal Spirit, Lunatic Red Eyes and Silver Gale (can’t Limit Break for now) as honorable mentions.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
With Skill 2, Vitalizing Smoke’s granting 1.00 Spirit Power, it’s recommended to level that skill up first. With that done and dusted, Skill 3’s Debilitating Smoke is very handy for its Yin DEF and Poison anomalies inflicted upon all enemies which both helps Sannyo (and other fellow Yin units)’s damage output as well as Poison anomaly utility. Finally, we have Skill 1’s Mind-Numbing Smoke which doubles down on Blind anomalies on her enemies as well as Sannyo herself. This helps her defensive stats as per her ability, as well as additional utility pertaining to Blind anomalies.
Character Strengths
Breaking the Mold
To be in her element, Sannyo only needs Wood and Fire, as she hones in on both of them, especially Fire as her Last Word has 6 Fire breaks. Her anomaly utility is also self-sufficient, finding multiple ways to inflict Blind and Poison breaks onto her enemies and breaking them, mainly with her Second Spell Card at 2P and 3P respectively.
Definitive Debuffer
Of the debuffs that are feature in this yamajorou’s hand include Evasion on her Second Spell Card, Yin ATK scattered across some of her bullet lines, and most importantly, Yin DEF as her ace up her sleeve, which can be found in her third Skill, first Spell Card and her Last Word.
Character Weaknesses
Selfish and Finite Gambler
Aside from Anomalies and Yin DEF debuffing, Sannyo doesn’t provide a whole lot for her teammates to work with. Since she can only buff her own Yin DEF and Accuracy to an extent, she is reliant on external means of providing important buffs to her like Yin ATK and CRIT ATK. Should Sannyo score some CRIT ATK buffs, she doesn’t have the best hand when it comes to Killer range. With some of her more effective targets being Youkai Mountain, Collector and Noble to name a few, Sannyo and her house of cards have a ceiling when it comes to Killers.
