Character Analysis
Seiga Kaku was released on March 8th, 2022 in "Prayer: Old Desire." For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
Seiga Kaku was the one who made the religious conflicts in Gensokyo even more heated. Reimu heads Shinto, Byakuren and her followers spread Buddhism, and Seiga was the one who taught Toyosatomimi no Miko Taoism and convinced them to become a saint. She wishes to spread Taoism throughout Japan (and by extension Gensokyo), but a lady titled as a “wicked” hermit should not be taken lightly. Her signature ability of passing through walls is shady enough, but she has also abandoned her mortal body to become unaging and revived Yoshika Miyako to be a devoted, creepy bodyguard.
There are no notable story card stages that Seiga can farm by herself, but Seiga isn’t the worst for general farming. The most unfortunate part of her Last Word, Wormhole Prophetess, is the same as the rest of her spells: they are backloaded with a 1-1-3 spread. This means that a fair amount of the damage for these attacks are locked behind 3 Spirit Power, which is doable but a minor inconvenience. Still, Wormhole Prophetess serves as an All-target nuke that is fair in strength, even if the Slice scaling is rather low. The Killer bullets on this attack guarantee crits against Hermits, Servants, and Humans, which can be a decent source for extra damage. Being both Energy and Star element only makes it easy to support with story cards as well.
Seiga’s role is a mix of selfish speed buffs and a few supportive debuffs. Her second spell, Path Sign: Tao Fetal Movement is 2 levels of Agility UP, although be aware of the 2 levels of Focus DOWN that can risk other members of the team suffering from additional All-target damage. Wormhole Prophetess’s pre-attack effect is the only beneficial buff that is given to the whole party, providing 2 more levels of Agility UP alongside a 20% chance for an additional level. Her first skill, Wicked Senjutsu is a single turn of 2 levels of Agility UP to herself, making for a final Slice buff before a strong finisher. The final way she is ensured to increase Agility comes from her character ability: 1 level of Agility, Accuracy, and Evasion UP for each barrier of Poison on herself. Her third skill, Spirit Manipulation synergizes well with this thanks to applying 2 Poison anomalies on herself, although these Barriers will end up on the rest of the party as well. Unless the Friend wants Poison barriers for buffs as well, such as Hecatia Lapizlazuli, these will be a distraction at best or broken by enemy anomaly breaks at worst.
Seiga’s skills inflict debuffs that assist the whole team, although they are only in effect for a single turn. Fortunately, Wicked Senjutsu has only 4 turns of cooldown and her second skill, Illusionary Arts, only has 3, meaning these debuffs will still be accessible somewhat often. Wicked Senjutsu gives accuracy support to the rest of the party by dropping a single target’s Evasion by 2 levels, while Illusionary Arts is 2 levels of Yin DEF DOWN to all opponents to help out Yin nukes. While their values are small, especially compared to other debuffers, the frequency of when these skills are available still makes them viable for support.
Seiga’s elemental breaking potential is pretty decent. Her first spell, Hermit Arts: Wall Runner: contains 4 Earth breaks in total and Path Sign: Tao Fetal Movement includes 3 Water breaks, making for helpful coverage for either element. Her focus shot, Yigui, tries to be special with a Fire break at 1 Spirit Power, Water at 2, and Wood at 3, but spending so much SP for a single break is rather costly for little reward. Last but not least is her 6 out of 6 Star breaks on Wormhole Prophetess, something that is rather impressive for a non-Festival Friend.
The secondary effects of Seiga Kaku’s attacks are as follows:
Guhuo Niao: 30% 1 level of Agility UP (Bullet 1/3)
Yigui: Pierces Defense (Bullet 5/6)
Hermit Arts: Wall Runner:
Slice Values: 0%/0%/40%/50%/0%/0%
Path Sign: Tao Fetal Movement:
SliceValues: 0%20%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Pierces Defense (Bullet 3/4/5)
Wormhole Prophetess:
Slice Values: 20%/0%/0%/25%/30%/35%
30% 1 level of Agility UP (Bullet 2)
50% 1 level of Agility UP (Bullet 3)
Story Card Recommendations
Spell Card
Backloaded spells only make the Spirit Power gain from story cards such as Witch of Scarlet Dreams even more beneficial, as that will be less time between Seiga’s extra bullet lines. Otherwise, Seiga only gets 2 levels of Yin ATK UP from Spirit Manipulation, so any Yin ATK buff from story cards will be a big help in optimizing her Last Word’s damage. A Curious Festival has the additional benefit of being an Agility stat stick to give a small boost to her small Slice scaling.
Last Word
Seiga’s absolute best story card slot is currently not out in Global, coming from a future main story stage. Instead, take advantage of the fact that Wormhole Prophetess is made up of only Energy Bullets and the Star element. Where the Wind Priestess Is currently has the largest Energy Bullet Power UP at 35%. Alternatives to this slot would be any other Energy or Star-boosting cards, or even something such as Overwhelming Firepower for a flat 3 levels of Yin ATK UP if the levels are immediately needed.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Seiga’s skills are in a weird position, as the only benefit from leveling any of them will be one additional level to the buff or debuff applied. There is no turn extension for the effects or a lower cooldown, as they are at their lowest already. Focus on the skill that relates to the team synergy you are going for the most. In that sense, Wicked Senjutsu is the most universal, as lower Evasion will help anyone get more hits in, Illusionary Arts helps out more Yin nukes as well as Seiga herself, and Spirit Manipulation only really helps Seiga the most, unless another Friend benefits from being inflicted with Poison.
Character Strengths
+All-target, Energy and Star only Last Word
+Heavy amount of self-Agility UP
+Small debuffs on skills that quickly recharge
+Decent Earth and Water coverage
Character Weaknesses
-Selfish attacker/buffer
-All spells are backloaded (1-1-3)
-Risks health of teammates due to Focus DOWN and Poison anomalies
