Anun (a Touhou LW original) refers to dark clouds that block sunlight and omens that indicate something bad will happen in the future. An apt temperament for Shion, the most-despicable and disastrous older twin sister. Shion is endowed with Wood Phase, an element that doesn't seem like it would attract much money, and Moon Essence, with her hidden passion and determination.

The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood.

The cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence resists the alluring and arrogant Sun Essence, but it is weak to the diverse and uncooperative Star Essence.

Shion Yorigami's Last Word (a Touhou LW original). This attack causes a financial collapse with losses of over a hundred million yen on a nationwide scale. Some say it was just bad luck, but perhaps it was inevitable. A wave once formed must come crashing down, and stacked stones will eventually topple. The fallout from this collapse led to an extremely long period of economic stagnation.

She causes misfortune for herself and all those near her. It seems that Shion cannot control this ability, so she and people close by are always affected. Furthermore, when Shion gets angry, she casts an overwhelming aura of negative energy that causes misfortune for herself and everyone else. This misfortune is not just limited to financial luck, as it also negatively affects the luck involved in contests and battles. The twins used this to try and achieve their ambition, thus causing an incident. Due to this piteous ability, Shion was housed at Hakurei Shrine for a time after the incident was resolved, as the shrine's financial luck could not possibly get any worse. The saving grace for Shion was her meeting with a certain celestial who is seemingly immune to her aura of negativity due to exceptional innate good luck.

Character Analysis

Shion Yorigami was released on October 12th, 2021 in "Festival Prayer: Gods of Poverty & Pestilence." She was initially a Festival on release and later added to the general pool. For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.

In Japanese mythology, there are plenty of creatures which classify as what we would call “gods.” However, not all of them are worship-seeking forces of creation, like in western religion, some are simply beings or objects which serve as physical manifestations of concepts. Shion Yorigami, the Most-Despicable and Disastrous Elder Twin Sister is a poverty god, and falls into that latter camp. Like her sister, Joon Yorigami, she brings misfortune wherever she goes. However, Shion’s truly unfortunate, in that her ability to make people unlucky extends to even herself, leaving her naturally unlucky. This caused her to be a quiet girl who didn't really care about life and was perfectly fine with simply being pushed and ordered around, until the events of Antimony of Common Flowers, where she struck up a friendship with Tenshi Hinanawi. As a celestial from heaven, Tenshi's natural fortune counteracts Shion's misfortune, leading Shion to live a considerably happier life. She’s still got plenty of misfortune to go around though.

For farming purposes, Shion is restricted entirely to Solo friendly stages, but does a spectacular job of them. Between her front loaded Last Word and her DEF Down, there’s little she can’t farm. Helping this further are Human and Younger Sister Killers on her Last Word - a wider range than you might think, though typically they’re extremely overkill.

For harder fights, Shion’s one of the best debuffers in the game, particularly for Yin attackers. Between all of her skills, you're looking at all enemies eating 2 Burn Barriers, 2 levels of Yin & Yang DEF DOWN, and 2 levels of Evasion DOWN - an unfortunate cocktail of debuffs for any set of foes, and can easily let you avoid needing to go for a Full Break in many fights. To back this up, her Solo targeting Last Word, The Lost 20 Years, deals incredible amounts of damage and applies a further 3 levels of Yin DEF DOWN against a single target - highly useful for taking out a priority target. Lastly, she also has a average amount of Fire Breaks, if you’re looking to squeeze even more value out of her - both of her Spell Cards have 1/1/3 Fire Breaks for 0/1/2/ Spirit Power (with Mischance Scatter having All targeting and Poor Sign: Super Poverty Bomb having Solo targeting).

The only thing you really need to watch out for with Shion is that her Last Word is Solo targeting, so it may be in your best interest in some fights to simply throw out her skills and then switch her out. Still, just her debuffs alone are more than enough reason to bring her to just about any fight you aren’t looking to Full Break. She may be unfortunate in general, but she’s lucky to be blessed with such a great set of debuffs.

Since Shion can provide herself with plenty of accuracy support thanks to the Evasion DOWN from Mischance Scatter, even missing Breaks isn’t really a concern for her. As such, she’s free to focus on Yin ATK UP or Spirit Power UP, depending on if you need more damage or more Breaks. For stat sticks, look to Yin ATK.

Last Word

Overwhelming Firepower

Since Shion already provides the enemy with an absolute TON of Yin DEF DOWN, and ATK UP has a multiplicative effect with it, Story Cards that provide Yin ATK UP are by far her best option. If you use her Spell Cards to set up and get even more damage, say in an extended fight, then she'll prefer either NO-Element or Sharp DMG UP.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

If you need additional accuracy support in your team compositions, Aura of Bad Luck should be prioritized first, due to the additional level of Evasion DOWN it gains at level 10. Otherwise, prioritize Default on Debt, due to the fact it benefits both Yin and Yang attackers. Lastly, Hi no Kuruma only benefits Yin attackers, and as such should be saved for last - though, it should still be prioritized over Aura of Bad Luck if you don't need accuracy support.
