Character Analysis
Star Sapphire was released on May 11th, 2021 as part of the starting roster.
Star Sapphire is a member of the “Three Fairies of Light,” cooperating with Sunny Milk and Luna Child to perform pranks all over Gensokyo. While fairies are seen as weak creatures, Star Sapphire calls upon the power of the always-present stars to succeed in any mischief she is a part of. Her ability to detect movement surrounding her does not initially sound strong, but she can easily notice when others are nearby and make an early escape when needed. She is usually more reserved than her partners in crime and would rather avoid fights if possible. That doesn’t mean that she has no use in a battle, but still in Touhou LostWord she skates by as an E-Tier Friend.
Star Sapphire isn’t that incredible when it comes to farming, as her Last Word, Hypernova, is a Solo-target attack with some Star bullets. She can buff her Accuracy by 3 levels with her third skill, Spy Satellite, for a more consistent strike, but that’s about it for raw power.
More abilities stand out when considering Star Sapphire in challenging quests. Her second spell card, Starlight: Star Laser, increases the entire party’s Accuracy by 2 or 3 levels. Combined with Spy Satellite and her first spell card, Star Sign: Twinkle Sapphire, she can grant herself 8 (to 10, if you are lucky) levels of Accuracy UP! Her attacks are very likely to connect, and even if they aren’t the most powerful, the access to Star breaks on her spell cards are still useful. Star Sign: Twinkle Sapphire can provide 2 Star breaks at 2 Spirit Power and Starlight: Star Laser hits every opponent with a Star break, which is helpful for an uncommon element like Star.
Star Sapphire doesn’t give much beyond that, with her other skills giving a CRIT Accuracy buff to the party or an offensive debuff to one target. Still, her small access to Star breaks can definity make a difference along with her other supporting abilities. She won’t be the one to do all of the fighting, but that doesn’t mean she won’t put in a good effort.
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on October 31, 2022)
Spell Card
Unlike the two Fairies of Light, Star has little to no problem when it comes to accuracy issues, thus, it is recommended to give her Spirit Power UP cards instead in order to access her Star elemental breaks easily
Last Word
Ordinary Magician gives Star Sapphire a buff to her YANG ATK, something that she finds difficulty increasing otherwise. On the other hand, she can also use Unknown Barrier Team as, just like Luna Child, all her LW bullet lines consist of Energy bullets.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Getting Star Sapphire’s third skill, Spy Satellite, to Level 9 or 10 is important to get the maximum 3 levels of Accuracy UP and a cooldown of 4 instead of 5 respectively. Her first skill, Observing Presences, can be leveled up next to provide a party-wide 3 levels of CRIT Accuracy UP to assist in the Critical damage of other Friends. The last skill would be the second one, Fantasy Planetaria, due to only increasing the mediocre Yin and Yang ATK debuff from 1 to 2 levels DOWN.
Character Strengths
Access to Star breaks
Accuracy buffs for self and whole party
Character Weaknesses
Mediocre Solo-target Last Word
Low support outside of strengths
Low amount of breaks overall
