Character Analysis
Yoshika Miyako was released on April 3rd, 2022 in "Festival Prayer: Immortal Sun & Zombie?!". For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
Yoshika Miyako is a jiang shi (basically the Japanese version of a zombie) who was revived by Seiga Kaku to protect the Hall of Dreams’ Great Mausoleum during Toyosatomimi no Miko’s revival. Afterwards, she took the jiang shi to be with her as an unofficial bodyguard. While Yoshika can be seen at times uncontrolled by Seiga and enjoying her own life while reciting poetry, that personality is practically unseen while with Seiga. It can be compared to brainwashing in a sense, but Seiga seems to at least treat her underling well.
Yoshika sadly isn’t going to many places farming-wise. There are no notable stages she can farm by herself, and her immediate damage is very unimpressive as well. Most of the bullets in her Last Word, Wind Between the New Willows Like a Comb Through Hair, might be Piercing and go through defenses, but that doesn’t help much with her mediocre damage output and low Hard scaling. Even as a defensive unit, she really can’t take advantage of this when it comes to raw power. On top of that, it’s a backloaded (1-1-3) attack that won’t even see its full power on turn 1.
On the other hand, Yoshika can still serve a purpose in challenging content through other means. Heavily focused on Yin DEF, the jiang shi can increase her own Yin DEF by 3 levels upon using Wind Between the New Willows Like a Comb Through Hair (3T) and 2 more from her third skill, Eater of Spirits (2T), along with her second skill, Grave Guard, increasing everyone’s Yin DEF by 2 levels with a 50% chance for another one (2T). Not only can she secure a high defense, but she is able to heal damage off when she is hit by 25% of her own HP thanks to her first skill, Respawn. And even if she is not meant to be a heavy hitter, Her second spell, Spell 2, grants herself Accuracy UP by 2 levels with a 20% chance for another level (2T) for that small Accuracy boost when needed.
Desire Sign: Profit Desire Spirit Invintation also raises her Focus by the same amount, 2 levels with 20% chance for an extra level (2T), along with Wind Between the New Willows Like a Comb Through Hair raising it by 4 levels (3T). Skills play into this too, with Respawn giving 3 levels UP (3T) and Eater of Spirits giving 2 levels (2T). This sounds alright for a defensive unit on paper, but consider how Focus works: when the opponent uses an All-target attack, the damage is distributed the most to whoever has the most Focus. This means Yoshika will be at the front of any All-target assault, be it a shot or spell, which is doubly worse if it is a Yang-based attack, a stat she never buffs herself to defend. While you can use barriers to defend yourself from the increased damage, no barrier restoration on her kit makes it difficult to keep her alive, especially if elements she is weak to are present in the fight. This cripples her defense quite a bit, which is pretty bad when that is the most she is contributing to a battle.
At the very least, Yoshika does serve as a rather decent, if not average, Water element breaker, with 3 lines of Water on each of her spell cards. She also has access to a Water break at 1P of her spread shot, Soul Drain, not as great as a 0P element but still somewhat serviceable. Finally, she absorbs Freeze anomalies for 0.20 Spirit Power and Poison anomalies for 5% heals, unsurprisingly synergizing well with her master, Seiga Kaku.
Yoshika might not do all of the heavy lifting, but she will prove to you why she is Seiga’s most trusted guard. Just watch out for those Focus increases so that she doesn’t get disassembled too early into the fight.
The Hard Scaling for Yoshika’s attacks are as follows:
Nyan Nyan Strength Charm: 0%/20%/0%/0%/0%/30%
Poison Nail: Poison Raze: 0%/25%/0%/0%/0%/30%
Wind Between the New Willows Like a Comb Through Hair: 25%/20%/25%/30%/30%/30%
Story Card Recommendations
Spell Card
The only significant thing Yoshika might need from story cards on her spells is Spirit Power, which Witch of Scarlet Dreams excels at as always. Otherwise, you can try to max out her Yin DEF buffs with a card such as Peach-Picking Princess as a method of raising Yin DEF without raising Focus. Yin DEF stat sticks can perform this as well, which might be preferred over Yin ATK ones due to her unimpressive damage.
Last Word
All of Yoshika's bullets on her Last Word are Body, making Eating Contest the best candidate for buffing its damage thanks to a 40% buff to every bullet. As a side effect, it heals 40% of Yoshika's HP, which actually works rather well with her defensive gimmick, granted she doesn't get nuked by all of her Focus buffs.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Grave Guard's highest Yin DEF buff out of her skills, of 2 ensured levels and 50% of another, makes it the easiest to prioritize first, even if the second buff is rather pointless. It also helps that this is the only buff she has that can get some team utility by being spread to other Friends. Secondly, Eater of Spirits may endanger her a bit with 2 levels of Focus UP, but at the very least she will get 2 levels of Yin DEF and 0.5 Spirit Power as well. Not much good can be said for Respawn's excessive 3 levels of Focus UP, but the heal from it can still help serve Yoshika’s purpose.
Character Strengths
Good amount of self-Yin DEF buffs
Heavy Focus UP buffs
Able to heal off some damage, helpful for a Defense unit
Average Water breaker, with 3 breaks per spell and 4 on LW
Character Weaknesses
Greedy buffer; little team utility
Unimpressive damage on LW
