Guide to VS Divergent Spirits

Looking for a different challenge to partake? Perhaps catching up on the missed opportunity to tackle the previous Character EX stages which featured the card you wanted? Look no further as VS Divergent Spirits will fill your need!

The VS Divergent Spirits challenge is a clear based content where fights get harder as you play. The challenge offers new stages to tackle every week, each with their own featured rewards (more info down below). Do note that this challenge will be available to play under the Challenge Mode button only after you clear the normal difficulty of Chapter 1 Main Story.

The VS Divergent Spirits' progression is similar to the Scarlet Devil Tower. Clearing the current Spirit Level will prompt you to the next level, starting from Spirit Level 60 up until Spirit Level 100. The higher the Spirit Level, the harder the stage becomes but at the same time, the better the first-clear rewards and the drop rate of farmable rewards will be. Just like in the Tower, you can view the enemy info beforehand by tapping on the small information icon hovering above the enemies.

For those looking to farm the stage for more copies of the featured story card, it is recommended to farm at Spirit Level 100 as it provides the best possible drop rate, hovering around 0.3% according to the community data gathered (special thanks for the people who contributed!).

UPDATE: During the Live with Phantasma #26, the matter regarding the drop rate increase per level was asked and according to Phantasma, the way that it was set up is to increase depending on the overall level of the stage. However, he also mentioned that he did not manage to see the final shape of it. Hence, community data will be useful for this scenario and please note that after we've gathered enough data, we will reach an acceptable conclusion to this matter.

Pro Tip: If you cannot be bothered to manually run 40 times per Spirit Level, set up an Auto Replay to ease the pain. However, do not Auto Rematch as this will only result to repeating the same Spirit Level.

Special Rules

After clearing Spirit Level 100, you will be able to unlock the Special Rules. These rules enable you to go through a greater challenge by setting up various enemy buffs and party debuffs, all of which are unique per stage. There are a total of 10 special rules and each rule selected adds 2 Spirit Levels to the challenge and eventually maxes out at Spirit Level 120 once everything is selected.

Naturally, if you plan on selecting all special rules, you will be forced to adapt and cope with the limited amount of unit options mainly because of bullet type resistances and unit role weakening. It is not recommended to farm in this Spirit Level since Special Rules do not increase the reward drop rate, making it very impractical.

Each Spirit Level in Divergent Spirits offer rewards which are definitely worth the pain and suffering of going through the entire challenge. These rewards include high tiered materials, VS: Divergent Spirit Rituals, and the exclusive story card for the stage. Right below is a table containing the full list of rewards you will get on each Spirit Level.

As you may have noticed from the rewards listed above, two new types of permanent rituals are added to the game alongside the VS: Divergent Spirits challenge content each with their own type of rituals.

The VS: Divergent Spirits Ritual allows you to perform a Prayer that results to either a story card or a friend. On the other hand, the VS: Divergent Spirits Guaranteed Ritual only results to a random friend. Both of these ritual banners will include friends from the Standard Prayer (which is updated periodically) as well as exclusive characters not found anywhere else in the game. As of the writing of this article, only L1 Urumi Ushizaki is the only exclusive character in this ritual prayer.

Do note that exclusive characters will not be added in the Standard Prayer!

UPDATE: As part of the March 17, 2023 update, a point exchange system has been implemented in the VS: Divergent Spirits ritual banners section. You may only exchange for Divergent Spirits only units in these ritual banners for 100 Exchange Points. Both VS Divergent Spirits Rituals and VS Divergent Spirits Guaranteed Rituals are counted for increasing the amount of exchange points earned.
