Princess Joon the Chivalrous Phantom Thief! Event Gallery

Easily obsessed with the mechanics of the virtual Gensokyo, Hecatia Laipslazuli is quick to get on Yukari Yakumo's case again, asking if she could create her own Gensokyo-based game. While resistant at first, Yukari sees the opportunity as a good way to test her invention once more and provides Hecatia the console responsible for creating the game. Already having an idea in mind, Hecatia rushes over to the Hakurei Shrine and basically kidnaps the MC (for the sake of story summaries, this article will refer to the player character as the MC) in front of Reimu Hakurei's eyes to test out the game. While similar to the real Gensokyo, Hecatia has created the Joon Phantom Thieves, comprised of Joon Yorigami (field leader), Yachie Kicchou (technician and tactician), Yamame Kurodani (web expert), and Shion Yorigami (support) with the goal to become the best thieves in Gensokyo! Don't get confused that this is just a game within a game, as there are still special event rewards to collect!

Every event in Touhou LostWord comes with exclusive Music CDs, Story Cards, and other unique event-only items for players to collect. Additionally, every stage plays with the theme of the event and names every opponent in a unique manner for every difficulity! For the sake of preserving these limited-time items and content (which only will reappear in event reruns), this article will mainly cover the names of every foe met while providing extra notes at the end. A small story synopsis will accompany each section to contextualize the reason you fight certain Friends, so expect event story spoilers as you read ahead. It should be expected, given the identity of the final foe is basically spoiled already.

Hecatia brings the MC to her new virtual Gensokyo, right away showing off its differences with a fully fairy-enforced police squad! With Cirno and Daiyousei heading the force, they obviously were not able to take in the convicts. Once safe, Hecatia takes the MC to the Joon Phantom Thieves' base, reminding them to act like she was just meeting everyone to not throw off the simulation. Set up as the new recruit, the MC commands the thieves to take down some stray phantoms Hecatia caught to prepare them for their first mission: steal a painting from the Scarlet Devil Mansion. To start, they have to sneak through the front gate at night, which is a piece of cake when the gate guard is already sleeping on the job.

The Scarlet Devil Mansion Operation immediately goes awry with the appearance of a rival thief faction ran by the Three Fairies of Light. Even after neutralizing them, there are still plently of traps surrounding the painting, primarily the laser-fence blocking off the hallway. Fortunately, Yachie gets the bright idea to approach from the lower floor and blow up the ceiling to skip the lasers. While this does snag them the painting, it means the mansion is now in full alert, requiring the thieves to take down all of the usual residents of the mansion. While most of the characters remain the same, it appears that Hecatia has modified the Scarlet vampires to sound a lot more old-school rich-like....

Failing their first heist due to nabbing the wrong painting, they are given a second chance through stealing a special robot fig - artifact - from the Moriya Shrine. Having the bright idea to send a calling card to their target, the team take the model while blending in with the crowd. Magician detectives are quick to arrive on the scene, immediately calling out Joon for the crime since...the team signed their calling card as the Joon Phantom Thieves. With their clever plan foiled, the thieves defend themselves from an enraged Sanae and her godly parents while making an escape. The magicians prove to be very difficult to evade, so Joon and the MC decids to take them all on and allow the rest of her friends to escape. While fending them off for a while, the magicians eventually capture the leader.

With the treasure confiscated after the arrest, Joon and the MC remain trapped in a jail until Yachie destroys the cell for an escape. While Joon is down on herself for losing their target and having to be saved, Yachie and Yamame remind her that they are a team and that she saved them already, so it was only natural to return the favor. The fairy cops arrive immediately on the scene before things get too mushy, so the Joon Phantom Thieves go up against the police once more to return to base.

Hearing that the police were on the move and relocating their prize, the thieves are quick to head back out to reclaim their mission in hopes of being rewarded. Yachie is surprised to see Saki Kurokoma recruited as backup, seemingly there to collect some ransom money for her own clan. After a brief skirmish, the thieves continue to pursue the police only to be confronted by the magician detectives once more. While the detectives are full of themselves for catching them before, they are easily dispatched by the thieves thanks to their newfound comradery. Saki tells the police to run on ahead while she holds the thieves off, confusing them once they defeat her, explaining that she would have been faster than the cops. Eventually, Cirno and her squad are taken off once more as Yamame inserts the figure into her pocket.

But of course, there was a hole in Yamame's pocket! The thieves are getting rather tired of failing, and Hecatia is as well. She decides to give her underlings a very last-minute, easy mission of stealing autumn's flavors from the Aki sisters. However, a misunderstanding causing Shion to run for the mission first, believing the group does not want her anymore, means the team has to finish the mission before she gets hurt. A run-in with the Futatsuiwa Badaboom Thieves (who act a lot more like western bandits...) along with even more fairies (not even police officers this time!) delay the thieves a bit, but they inevitably reach the Aki sisters. However...something seems very off, both in their appearance and the way they speak. Teamed up with Shion, Hecatia's hasty programming causes the Joon Phantom Thieves to go from doing a simple job to having to fight the Lunarian princesses!

After completing the simulation, Yukari takes it back from Hecatia for her own test run. Everything is practically reset, with focus being on the Joon Phantom Thieves properly taking down the Aki sisters without any errors. However, instead of being rewarded with the autumn banquet, Yukari changes things to where she has her own Phantasm Thieves to outwit the original phantom thieves! It quickly turns into the MC and the Joon Phantom Thieves versus Yukari's own gang of ragtag misfits...but why didn't she invite Ran and Chen to the game?

Additional Note: Obviously, this event appears to take many notes from the ever-so-popular JRPG, Persona 5, with the concept of phantom thieves as well as the many mentions of stealing hearts (in the rare event points as well as the Extra Event Story). However, the idea of a phantom thief and group of anti-hero thieves is one that is very popular within Japan, hence why you are likely to find many of the events or scenes from this event inspired by other media from Japan.
