Introduction

Did you think you were done with the Scarlet Devil Tower? Coming this July, you’ll be returning to it in LostWord’s first challenge content! Find out the mysteries of the Scarlet Devil Tower, beat up plenty of strangers from other realities, get some sweet loot, and try to reach the top! Or just disregard all that, skip through the story, and just put your Friends to the test - Gensokyo's a free country, you don't have to read the lore if you don't want to.

What Is The Scarlet Devil Tower?

The Scarlet Devil Tower is a time-limited, semi-frequently recurring series of challenge fights, or floors, that will put your skills to the test - and offer some sweet rewards like paper dolls and gold materials for your troubles. Each fight consists of one wave, in which you’ll face up to three enemies. Every time the Scarlet Devil Tower event is run, new floors are added, and your progress is carried over between events - so if you made it up to floor 24 on this first instance, you’d start off on floor 24 when the Tower returns! Every time you complete a floor, it's finished permanently. This first iteration of the event features 30 floors total.

So what’s keeping you from just throwing Youmu, Ran, Yuyuko or other similar powerful nukers out to curbstomp every fight? For starters, these enemies are beefy - the bosses of Lunatic Chapter 2 were only a taste of what you can expect. So your most powerful attackers are going to need support.

Additionally, your units status between floors carries over - so if, say, you used someone’s skills and Last Word on floor 1, and they took half their health in damage, if you tried to use them on the next floor, they’d have 50% health, their skills would be on cooldown, and they’d be locked out of their Spell Cards! Don’t fret though - you can fully heal all of your units once per day for free, and then an additional three times per day for a small fee of Seal Crystals that raises each time. Additionally, this goes both ways - if you can’t fully knock out the enemies with your first team, their HP will carry over for the next team to take them out! Finally, there’s also a “Retreat” function, separate from quitting, to assist you in clearing the tower - if five turns pass from the start of a fight, you can retreat and come in with a new team. Perfect for setting up a full break, then tagging in your attackers to finish the job!

Finally, there is a level requirement of 30 for any unit to enter the tower.

How Can I Prepare?

First of all, due to the fact units carry over their status between floors, having a wide roster of Friends trained up is paramount. Your best bet for most floors is going to be aiming for Full Breaks where possible, or muscling through with brute force where you can’t - and the more Friends you have trained up, the better! Even though technically any unit can enter at 30, you’ll ideally want them leveled up past that - Barriers don’t last forever, and you don’t want your Friends dying to a stiff breeze before they can get off their Barrier Breaks! Make sure you’re using that Dojo too - a few skill levels can make a big difference! You should also make sure your Friends are fully Enhanced, and Upgraded to higher ranks to gain access to their skills.

Secondly, try to use those Friend Rituals and Paper Dolls you’ve saved up to aim for Max Limit Breaking some powerful attackers, like Reimu, or Ran. A unit gains access to their Last Word at Max Limit Break, and Last Words are paramount to clearing the Scarlet Devil Tower, due to the sheer additional damage output Last Words provide.

Thirdly, try to Awaken your attackers - Awakening levels make a massive difference in damage output, and for some support units, they give useful additional effects to their Spell Cards. Need tokens for Awakening? You can find a list of Story Cards that are safe to Part Ways with here to get some extra tokens!

Fourthly, you’ll want to prepare any copies of Spirit Power recovery Story Cards you may have, as many Spell Cards are reliant on additional Power to perform their Barrier Breaks. Especially of note is The Witch of Scarlet Dreams, the farmable Story Card from the final boss of chapter 2 on Lunatic - providing a jaw dropping 2 Spirit Power per use! Here's a list of all the Story Cards that provide Spirit Power - keep in mind they provide additional Spirit Power at Max Limit Break, so try to MLB them where possible!

Fifthly, try to make sure you have a good understanding of how Story Cards work - they can really make a difference, and strategy is the key to victory here! If you need some pointers, we’ve got a guide to Story Cards here, and every character has suggested Story Cards on their pages - check them out!

If all else fails, there’s also the friendly LostWord Discord community, which you can find a invite link to here, or even ingame! There’s a strategy channel full of people who’d be happy to help you make decisions in training up your units, and when the time comes, assist you in conquering any particular floors you may be having trouble with.

Conclusion

If your roster of units isn’t quite fully expanded outwards yet, or trained up, remember that this is a repeating event, and your progress carries over. Do your best, but don’t stress it too much - there’ll be plenty of chances in the future to fully climb the tower! So get out there, take on the Scarlet Devil Tower, and earn some sweet rewards!
