Scarlet Yomi

The Spread Shot of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). She paints the Netherworld scarlet. The Japanese word for coming back to life, ''yomigaeru,'' comes from Yomi, the land of the dead, and the word for return, ''kaeru.'' Unfortunately, nobody celebrated when the dead unexpectedly came back to life in the past. It meant more mouths to feed, not to mention the problems with inheritance. Apparently, that's why it became a tradition to leave heavy stones on top of graves―to keep the ''dead'' down there.
Incidentally, the techniques used to determine whether someone was dead weren't that accurate in the past, so it wasn't uncommon for people to get mistakenly buried alive.
