Should You Pull?

If Byakuren is your favorite. Byakuren herself is a somewhat lackluster unit, and her competition is fierce - Suika Ibuki is the best unit in the game. As such, this banner is pretty much strictly for either people who intend to pull on both, or Byakuren superfans, as she's still a Festival unit and thus limited. She's by no means as bad as Hong Meiling, nowhere close, and she'll find use if you pull for her.

Quick Overview

+ Average amount of Sun on first Spell Card at 0/1/2/3 Breaks for 0/1/2/3 Power, ditto for Star on her Focus Shot
+ Buffs her team's DEF.

- No form of teamwide Barrier recovery or Healing
- Low values on DEF Buffs
- Focus Shot's Star Element is something of a last resort, as it being on a Basic Shot means you will need to alternate between Spell Cards to accumulate Spirit Power and Basic Shots to provide breaks, which is extremely slow.
- Low damage

Byakuren Hijiri

Byakuren Hijiri was once a human who lived with her brother, Myouren. When he died, she became dreadfully afraid of death - to the point where she reached out to dark sources of magic, in order to maintain eternal youth. However, such magic required youkai to still exist, and by this point faith in youkai was diminishing - thus, Byakuren reached out to numerous youkai, offering them salvation by faith in cooperation with humanity in order to keep them going. At first, this was strictly to save her own skin - after-all, if belief in youkai were gone, her powers would vanish as well, but over time she began to believe in her own gospel.

Eventually, she was found out, and banished to Makai - a sort of hell. For hundred of years she resided there in exile, until her followers came to save her, in the events of Unidentified Fantastic Object (available on steam!). From there, she's established Myouren Temple, where human and youkai coexist in peace - though many of her followers don't take the tenants of Buddhism entirely seriously. Byakuren herself is a woman with love in her heart for everyone, a secret distaste for chores, and a somewhat unusual fighting style. On top of her black magic, the monk also utilizes enhancement magic, making her body as hard as diamond, as fast as a tengu, and as strong as a oni. Unfortunately, such strengths don't fully manifest themselves in LostWord, resulting in a below average tank.

Byakuren's primary asset is a perfectly acceptable 3 Sun Breaks for 3 Power on her first Spell Card, Heaven Sign: Brilliance of Mahavairocana. Additionally, her Focus Shot, Star Vortex, can provide 3 Star Breaks for 3 Power in a pinch. She also provides some team support through her skills, providing her party with 1 Level of Yang DEF Up every time she grazes through her passive, Capable of using magic (specializing in increasing physical ability), and 2 Levels of Yin DEF Up with a 80% chance for 1 more through her second skill, Garuda's Wings. Lastly her Spread Shot, Sorcerer's Sutra Scroll, can allow her to drain tank past many of the earlier floors of tower all by herself - whilst a very slow process, due to the low damage of Basic Shots, this allows you to save other Friends for more challenging floors. Just be warned this eventually stops working, as enemies eventually get regeneration to counter such strategies.

That's about where the positives end. Byakuren's damage output is low across the board, although due to her Yang-only Last Word she's not too hard to support, and she provides no offensive team support whatsoever. Her defensive team support is also somewhat lacking - the values on her DEF buffs are low, and she provides no Barrier Recovery or even healing to her teammates.

Overall, Byakuren will certainly see some use any roster, especially if you require Sun or to a lesser extent, Star Breaks. It's just extremely hard to recommend pulling for her when Suika's banner is running at the same time, unless you're a massive Byakuren fan or plan to roll for both.
