Mahjong Soul Released for iOS and Android

On November 27, 2019, mobile game company Yostar released Mahjong Soul to the public, allowing any mahjong fan to play the game along with their favorite anime avatar. 

Mahjong Soul also advertises a tutorial that will teach players the moves required to play the somewhat archaic tile-based board game. The game was invented in the 1600s in China. 

Mahjong Soul has been available on desktop for some time, and the desktop version even worked on most phones. Accounts will likely transfer to the new mobile game. 

Mahjong Soul's gacha elements are entirely cosmetic; the game allows players to select from a plethora of anime avatars, riichi sticks, and emoji sets.
