  • Bandai Namco partners with in-store physical toy line called "tori" to create a set of apps for ages 6-12
  • Different apps will use the tori branded toys to interact in AR environments

There have been some new trends in AR that prove really interesting for the future of gaming and how kids see the world around them.

Bandai Namco Entertainment is combining forces with a physical in-store toy set branded "tori" -- which they describe as "a creative and imaginative ecosystem." Tori is aimed at kids between the ages of 6 and 12, with the goal of combining real-life toys (racecars, spaceships, etc) with an augmented reality app available on mobile phones. Set to release on October 2nd of 2019, the tori Explorer Pack will be accompanied by 5 different mobile apps on the release that all transport kids into a different imaginative and interactive world.

Focused on learning and development, what's interesting about this product offering is the ability to expand it based on new toys created and new apps created to imagine different worlds. Plenty of app developers have tried things along these lines, but few have attempted to "standardize" the branding to open the door to more than just one app or more than one world.

And the compatibility also seems interesting, where modifications to the toys themselves have a role in the various apps as well. Overall, the concept seems intriguing, and the learning and development focus is also interesting. Working with experts in the field, tori is truly intended to be a landscape for growth and development.

Whether you have kids or not, we are quickly approaching a world where our mobile phones can transform the world around us into digital environments, and that's a pretty cool thing.
