SFB Games offers a new take on the puzzle-mystery genre with Tangle Tower. There are a number of suspects for the murder of Freya, including the subject of... a painting, apparently.
The game is fully voice-acted with a 2D animated cast and painted backgrounds.
Some may recognize Grimoire, as Tangle Tower is a sequel to the acclaimed title Detective Grimoire. The previous game was a multiplatform point-and-click adventure with a similar whimscal setting (and itself is a sequel to the flash game of the same name). The story, world and production value are all expanded in the trailer:
The gameplay itself follows up on the level of polish present in the story trailer. Ambient music, art, and sound design are top-notch, with a menu that allows players to read through evidence and lore at any time.
For those with Apple Arcade, the game is free to play right now. Patient fans can still pick up the game on Steam and Nintendo Switch for $19.99 USD when it releases for those platforms on Thursday, October 10th.
SFB Games is a British independent game studio, founded by brothers Tom and Adam Vian, who have been making games together since 2003.
They’re passionate about designing unique games with a focus on fun, color, artistry and innovation.
These particular design philosophies lined up well with Nintendo, when the two companies worked closely together to create the Nintendo Switch launch title Snipperclips - Cut it out, together!
SFB Games often collaborate with game artist / illustrator Catherine Unger, who has provided art for most of their games since 2014.
