A Deluge of Cotton Candy

A bug in One Piece: Treasure Cruise, one of many game adaptations of Eiichiro Oda's mega-hit manga One Piece, accidentally resulted in many players of the Japanese version being pelted with 100 times the rewards they were supposed to get from the special Treasure Map game mode.

Treasure Map mode, which allows players to earn Treasure Points by moving their ship around a game board-like Treasure Map and defeating bosses and mini-bosses, gives out rewards based on the number of earned points. However, a bug discovered earlier today on the latest Treasure Map actually granted players who reached 6.75 million points in the New World league (the highest ranked players in the mode) a whopping 100 copies of the intended reward, a single ATK+100 Cotton Candy item. Twitter user @MG_z_ uploaded footage of the duplicated rewards.

Bandai Namco has already fixed the bug as of the time of writing, but there is not yet any confirmation on what will happen to the duplicated rewards for players who already received and perhaps even used the Cotton Candy for stat boosts to their units. According to one Treasure Cruise player GamePress spoke to, the bugged rewards were more or less 'equivalent to getting 999 Rare Candies [in Pokemon GO]'. Players of other games can only watch with fingers crossed in hopes that similar bugs will hit their favorite games soon!
