Meta Shift: Multi Z-Power, Fix or Flop?

Submit Feedback or Error

Overview

The Multi Z-Power overhaul has been announced last week, following the community’s negative feedback regarding the recent Star System Update that arguably favored the so called whales, since it added a bunch of additional Limit Break Levels behind a wall reachable only through obtaining large amounts of Z-Power that granted additional Stats Boosts. So, in order to try to fix that problem, the developers are improving the Multi Z-Power Items,  which are obtainable through three different Shops. Let’s see what they are about first.

Details

Currently, all the types of Multi Z-Power Items available to be bought through the Guild Shop, the Co-Op Shop and the Sparking Medals Shop.

Guild Shop

Those available in the Guild Shop are probably the least impressive ones. The reason is that oddly this Shop was the only one that didn’t receive an overhaul in this week’s update. Here you can buy Items that grant 30 Z-Power to a specific class, and they can only be used on a character if he’s at least 5*.

Co-Op Shop

The Co-Op Shop offers a definitely more convenient catalogue of Multi Z-Power Items, since the ones listed grant either 50 or 100 Z-Power. For the latter, the character it gets used on must be at least 4*, but that’s acceptable since there is no Tag restriction and the Cost is quite reasonable.

Sparking Shop

Lastly, the Sparking Medals Shop offers two different types of Multi-Z Power Items, one that can only be used on Sparking Fighters -- 100 Z-Power -- and another that can only be used on Extreme Fighters -- 200 Z-Power --. These Items have no restriction, thus they’re worth it considering all the other Items on the Shop are flat out worse.

The Good

There is a single clear aspect that makes the new Multi Z-Power Items a positive addition for the Game. It should be obvious to say, but being able to obtain stars freely is extremely valuable in this Game.

While you could argue that anybody can farm these Items, so the balance between all kinds of Players is unchanged, there are Limit Breaks Levels that are much more important than others, namely the ones where a Fighter unlocks either a secondary Z-Ability Buff, or a secondary Tag that gets his Buff.

These are available at 3* sometimes and more often at 6*. The good thing is that you could pull a SP Fighter once --600 Z-Power -- and immediately upgrade him to 3* -- 700 Z-Power --thanks to the 100 Z-Power Item.

Banner

This could seem a downgrade compared to a couple of months ago, when we used to get x999 Z-Power UST and Legends Rising Banners, but it’s an Upgrade for Step-Up Banners since we’ve always gotten normal Z-Power for those -- Even though these new Items work only on non LF Fighters --.

The Extreme Z-Power Item is very valuable too, since it gives an important 200 Z-Power increase. Considering there are a couple of Extreme Fighters that have incredibly powerful Z-Abilities, and also considering that those are listed at terribly low rates, it could be worth to pick the Extreme Z-Power Item instead of the Sparking Z-Power Item in some cases.

Also, the Update makes the whole Zenkai mechanic more bearable. While the 3000 Z-Power barrier is still astounding, being able to obtain free Z-Power over time definitely makes it more accessible.

The Ugly

The worst thing about the new Items is that you can only hold one of each type at a time. This means that you can’t stock them up to use those in the future. The intent here is clear, the developers want to prevent players from hoarding Multi Z-Power Items to use them on the newest Fighters.

Even hoarding Points/Medals isn’t an option, since in some cases there is a specific Cap on the Items you can buy over a certain period of time, and in others the required Currency periodically gets a reset.

Generally though the worst aspect is that this doesn’t fix the core problem, that ironically was the reason for this Update: The Star System is still flawed in its essence and giving everybody the means to get a not so big amount of Z-Power won’t make it particularly better.

There was a specific part of their announcement last week that was quite interesting, namely the part where they explained that one of their intents with the Star System Update was to make old Fighters more competitive.

announcement

It’s true, they’ve gotten a Stats Buff and they’re more common to obtain at high Star Level compared to more recent Fighters, however that’s not enough to make them competitive since their kits are very old. There was one way to make them competitive and that was the “Balance Changes” that happened periodically, but it got replaced by a mechanic that requires you to go through mindless grinding and “Special Summons” to be obtained -- Zenkai--. So yeah, that looks bad.

A Look At The Future

The new Multi Z-Power Items are good overall but they’re just a start. Trying to fix last week’s mess with those would be like trying to cover a huge wound with a little patch.

However, there is room for hope since they showed they listen to feedback from the Community, thus if you still feel dissatisfied after the new Update, express your disappointment through Social Media, Youtube or Reddit because you will be heard.
