Epic Hybrid Skills Tournament

Hello, again Explorers! we have yet another skills tournament this weekend and it will feature Epic Hybrid dinos. We have had this tournament in the past, but we have new spic hybrids since that one was featured so hopefully there is a chance to play with some different creatures. Here are the details on it:

It looks like they changed the prize structure up a bit this time and you must place in the top 5,000 to receive anything higher than the participation reward. That being said, the prizes are pretty good this time around so it's worth a go if you have the time to put into battling.

Epic Hybrid Dinos

Since only one rarity and hybrids only are allowed, his is an extremely small pool of creatures to choose from compared to other skilled tournaments. In total, there are 17 different creatures you can play with.

So which Dinos are the best?

To answer that we went back to our Battle Simulator tool and did a simulation of all common and non-hybrid epic dinos against each other.

Before we reveal the results though, our usual disclaimer. This tool is a great way for us to see how creatures do in a 1v1 situation, but keep in mind we play with a 4 dino team. This is a new and updated simulator that we hope will bring more accurate results to our analysis. We have created a new field that analyzes swaps. In the previous iteration of the simulator, a dino that has a swap out move would perform that move but, stay in the battle and that could skew some of the results. Now, if a dino performs a swap out move the battle will end and a score is applied based on a complex formula we won't bore you with. In the image below, you will see dinos like Paramoloch that have a 0% loss rate and that is because they always swap out in the simulator to save itself and never technically die because the battle ends at that point. Swapping isn't a good or a bad thing as it solely depends on the course of the battle and what creature is being swapped in to. The sim still uses swap in moves about 50% of the time. So any creature with a swap in or swap out move may not show favorable and could still be a good option on your team. Y.

Because we love infographics, we created one to show the top 17 (because there are only 17) Epic Hybrid creatures. Below each image, you will see the win (green), loss (red), and swap out (yellow) percentages. The swap-out percentage is when either dino swaps out of the match and the battle essentially ends.

So without further ado, here are the top Epic Hybrid creatures ranked in order according to the simulator we ran:

Even more Data

In addition to the new swap mechanics, we also implemented some additional data called "Win Quality". This is basically the percentage of health left of the dino that won. This is really useful information to see that while that certain dino might have a great win percentage, the HP is pretty low and it might be a setup opportunity for the next dino that comes in. Below are the Win/Loss/Swap out results for all of the creatures as well as the Win Quality.

Building your team

First of all, don't just pick the top 8 and go with those. As we mentioned, the sim is a head to head match up visualization so there are plenty of dinos that work well on a team that may not necessarily be in the top 20. And some of them may just end up being set up fodder for the next dino (as seen by the win quality). Experiment and see what works best for you. Ideally, you want a diverse group so you need speed, armor, tanks and probably a couple of counter attackers as well.

Procerathomimus, or Yoshi as we affectionately call it, will be a staple on every team (so get ready for those speed ties!). It is the fastest dino of the bunch and the combination of immunity, distracting moves, and an evasive move, it can deal with almost every creature available. You will need to try and hit it with brute force or get through that evasive stance to have a chance against it.

Indominus Rex Gen 2 is amazing when it can pull off the Mutual Fury-Cloak-Rampage combo. Since it is naturally slower than most creatures you will need to take a hit and go Mutual Fury to increase your attack and make yourself faster (as long your opponent's speed is less than 118). Ideally, you will want to cloak after that and hope your opponent doesn't hit through. When you are finally able to do your big Armor Piercing Rampage move, the damage multiplier from Cloak and Mutual Fury will stack and you will hit them HARD. Just beware of shields since it doesn't have a shattering move.

Edmontoguanodon is a great option for this tournament because of its higher health pool and versatility of moves. It can slow, Nullify, Stun, and even run away if it is in a bad matchup. It could work as a good Yoshi counter since it can get rid of the distracting moves with superiority Strike and can take care of evasive with Nullifying Impact. It is a bit of a guessing game to win the match, but a good option. You could also take some hits and then regenerate and run out of there before getting taken out completely.

Megalogaia is the new kid on the block, but it is a strong contender! It has several slowing moves and shielding moves all while being immune to deceleration. It also has an Armor-Piercing counter-attack that does 1,200 damage after every hit it takes! With the Dig In regeneration move that allows it to live for another turn, you can whittle away your opponent's health little by little.

Erlikogamma is also a newer hybrid with high speed, good damage, and the ability to distract and go through cloak or evasive. It is also immune to swap prevention (which is important when going against creatures with the No Escape ability). This would also make a decent Yoshi counter if you predict the moves right. Yoshi can still instant distract your Precise pounce, but they will regret it if they try and go evasive! It might not win 1 v1 against the green chicken, but it can make it hurt before it goes down, hopefully setting up another dino to take it out.

Brontolasmus is also one that shouldn't be looked over. It has 2 Rampage moves and a Rending attack that can take out 40% of your opponents HP! It can be distracted and bled so it has its weaknesses, but if you can get this guy going, he's going to hit hard and often as it can cycle between the 2 Rampage moves.

Finally, we want to talk about Sarcorixis and Purutaurus. Specifically because of their new ability, No Escape. Unless you are immune or immune to swap prevention you will not be able to swap out of either of these creatures. This means they can work well a the end of the match and bring them in on a low health dino and there is nothing your opponent can do about it. If your opponent brings out either of these creatures and you do have an immune dino on the field, be careful what you swap into because they could also be pinned.

Concluding Thoughts

There aren't as many creatures to choose from in this tournament, but there are some new ones we haven't seen much of so hopefully you can find a team that works for you. Our discord has already been buzzing about their teams and what will be the best dinos to have. While the simulator isn't the end all be all, hopefully, it helps you get an idea of what dinos might be good to use. Since this is a skills tournament, all the creature levels are set and friendly battles will be a great way to practice. Try a variety of different dinos and see what works best for you. Most importantly, have fun! Make sure to join our discord to get in on the discussion as well!
