Gundam Tryon 3 and Astray Red Frame Custom - Should You Pull?

Pilots!

Today we've got another edition of Should You Pull, brought to you by Scubasage on our discord server at https://discord.gg/JTsv8gX. Check out my assessment of this week's banner below!

Hello everyone, Scubasage back again! This week, we'll unfortunately be skipping the Haro Chip count as we got a metric ton of Haro Chips and I'm quite frankly way too busy to try and track everything down. Sorry folks.

Let’s set up some ground rules so you know exactly what to expect and how you should be treating this!

This is entirely my opinion, but I will do my best to justify my opinion and explain to you why I feel a certain way. If at all possible, I’ll use real numbers as well and present an objective outlook before my opinion.

Do not pull on the banner hoping for a single Part. It’s 0.2% for a single Part, which is 50x 10-pulls or 500 pulls. In terms of real money, that’s 5,400 USD.

SS is considered meta defining, S is meta, A is great, B is average, C is below average, D is considered well below average, and F is awful. Parts are compared to all other Parts as a whole and on how well they synergize with other Parts. This means a 4* and a 3* would be compared to everything as low as a 1* to as high as other 4*s.

There are some notations which aren’t immediately obvious:

An EX Skill with D/B at 21/6 CD means it has a D in Piercing, B in Power, a 21 second cooldown, and it’s available for use 6 seconds after the match starts.

All stats are at Max Value, but all EX Skills and Part Traits will be considered at Level 1 (One).

With all of that out of the way, let’s get right into the new banner and what we’re looking at this week!

This week is a Standard banner, which means it will be going to Standard Gunpla Parts Capsule when the week is up. Finally, I will not be factoring Marks into the review, as comparing banner parts to banner parts doesn't change with or without marks.

Banner Grade: B+-

Summary: This banner has a 1.4% (4.97%) chance of drawing something above average, and a 0.6% (2.13%) chance of drawing something of great value or higher.

This is a surprisingly solid banner for a standard banner. The majority of the parts are above average in one way or another, even if it's mostly just raw stats. The flipside is that because these are being added to the standard pool afterwards, I wouldn't necessarily go crazy trying to get them now. I feel like if you're a beginner and maybe don't have much in the way of Melee parts this banner is probably a solid pull. Otherwise, wait for free daily pulls, free 10x pulls from events and the Premium Material Campaign to get the standout parts.

I would skip.

Prime Pool percentages are in parenthesis

Tryon 3

HGBF Tryon 3

Head: C

The Tryon 3 Head has average 384 Melee ATK, slightly above average 2785 Shot ATK, and comes with an A/D at 60(15) Skill. Honestly, this Head doesn't really have anything going for it besides being ever so slightly better than say, the Artemis Head for shooters.

Chest: A

This Torso is spicy let me tell you. Above average dual 797 ATK, good armor at 1605, and the most interesting part, the EX Skill, which is a D/A+ skill at a whopping 79 (40) CD. At level 1, the CD is 120 (60)! The skill is a Beam Melee skill that boosts Melee Attack by 30% (39% at max level), and has a really sweet animation. The thing is, the animation is super long, being at least 10 seconds by my count, in comparison to other Overkills. Still, this is the Overkill of Overkills, the biggest and baddest of the bunch.

Arms: B+

With 2785 Melee ATK and 1181 Shot ATK, these arms are well above average for both. They come with a D/B+ 21(6) skill that has you use **rocket fists** to hit the enemy, which is awesome. What's important here is that this is another fast ranged Melee attack, similar to last week's Knight Sword's Comet Throw and the Gusion Rebake Shield's Halberd Throw. This makes a solid "budget" option for a second *yeet* skill, being that it is a standard part and therefore will be part of the standard capsules and the Premium Material Campaign. It, unlike the Knight Sword, also doesn't take up one of the most important slots for Initial CD. The flipside is that it takes up one of the most important slots for Melee Power boosts, in the Arms slot. Finally, it is important to note that the skill is ever so slightly slower than the Halberd Throw or Comet Sword. Still, this is something to consider for PMC.

Legs: B

Above average Melee ATK at 797, average mostly everything else. It comes with an interesting physical Melee B/B+ 21 (3) skill that lowers the enemy's melee ATK by 29%, that includes a dash similar to the Sengoku Astray Arms' skill. These are serviceable and a solid part.

Back: B-

These are the legs but with swapped RES stats, as is tradition. The EX Skill is nowhere near as good, B+/C- at 60 (15), and is a long beam shot similar to the Akatsuki Back. Stats are enough to raise this above a C grade though.

Hyper Minovsky Chohouken: B

At 3582 ATK, this is above average, but not spectacular. The trait is an interesting one that we've seen before on the Hyper DODS Rifle from the Age 2. Namely, Initial CD charge increased by 20% while Transformer is active. The lower Melee ATK doesn't really push this over something like the Heat Rev Swords and the Hyper DODS Rifle does a much better job at getting Transformer suits Initial CD, both from having been easier to max out and from being in a relatively low value slot for Melee units.

Hyper Beam Saber: C

This is the same as the Minovsky in terms of stats, but with a much worse trait, giving a 30% boost to Strong Melee Crit Chance while Power Attribute. This trait is incredibly garbage, so the sword itself has to get by on raw stats alone.

Aesthetics: B+

This is basically just Voltron right? A Megazord? Regardless of which nostalgic combiner robot this reminds you of, that's the appeal to this suit, and honestly, I think it works.

Astray Red Frame Custom

MG Astray Red Frame Kai

Head: B+

This is a really solid tank head, with 1182 Armor and 1606 Melee DEF, alongside a trait that reduces enemy Shooting Power by 30% while Technique attribute. Average Melee ATK at 384 and abysmal Shot ATK at 799 though.

Chest: C

Another tank part, this sports 1606 Armor and Melee DEF, alongside average dual 384 ATK. The part trait boosts Strong Melee attacks by 30% while using an In-Fighter job, which is negligible.

Arms: B

Continuing the trend, these have 1606 Melee DEF, well above average 3181 Melee ATK and average 384 Shot ATK. The trait is, like the Torso, worthless, boosting Melee Crit rate by 30% while your armor is below 80%.

Legs: C

Average dual 384 ATK, 1606 Melee DEF again, and a B+/B- Physical Melee skill at 21(6), that is very similar to the standard Rapid Thrust skill seen on many legs.

Back: B

These are the legs but with swapped RES stats, as is tradition. The skill here, though, is much better, being D/A- Physical Melee at 21(6). This skill is basically identical to the Sengoku Astray Arms' skill, having the same on paper stats and a dash, though the animation is not a single slice but rather a few slashes.

Gerbera Straight/Tiger Pierce: SS

Sporting a monstrous 4004 ATK, the best word tags for Melee in Protag and Close Combat, and a trait that increases initial CD charge by 20% while Protag is active, these swords are insane. They are the best current Initial CD part in the slot, and the best part is, because they are going to the standard capsules once this week is over, we have plenty of time and plenty of chances to acquire them and increase the trait level

Aesthetics: C

I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan. This is just the Astray Red Frame, which on its own is fine, but the back of this one really detracts from the look and feels extremely out of place to me.

AI Pilots Lacus Clyne (4*) and Heine Westenfluss (3*)

Lacus and Heine Banner Image

Banner Grade: D

They did both these characters dirty. This banner is trash and I would avoid it at all costs.

Lacus Clyne: D

795 stats mostly across the board, her trait increases EX Skill Recovery by a flat 140 while Technique attribute. When we're looking at Armor values in the 5000 to 10000 range before the Arena Armor boost applies, and heals are all percentage-based, adding a flat 140 is basically non-existent. So she doesn't have good stats and has a worthless trait. On the one hand, it makes sense since Lacus was never really a pilot, but on the other hand, Lacus was always one of my favourites and I'm saddened by how bad she is.

Heine Westenfluss: D

Another pilot shafted by terrible stats. His lifespan in this game is likely to match his lifespan in the show. Low Armor at 561, average Melee ATK at 893, low Shot ATK at 294, this Defender has a trait that increases Debuff EX Skill Effect by 15% while Speed Attribute. The trait *could* become useful in the future, but it would require an absolutely major overhaul of stats and the damage formula, which I don't see happening anytime soon. As it stands, Debuffs are just too weak to use.
