JWA Datamine - Patch 2.0

Submit Feedback or Error

Introduction

Explorers!

Patch 2.0 is out in full force and as always we dove into the code to see if we could find anything valuable. And we definitely found some good stuff this time around! Huge shout out to OrigamiRobot and Jimbohi for their help on this!

As always, with datamined info, one has to keep in mind that the findings could be fully implemented, could be used in a much much later patch or could be never implemented in the game at all. Events can change anytime and it’s always possible Ludia makes a change we can’t see (like when Turtle was added to armor week without us knowing).

If you're new to JWA or don't like SPOILERS -- be sure to check out all our awesome guides below instead. I'll just link a bunch. That's your queue to check something else out instead of being spoiled!

Still with us? Good. Let's get to it.

August Championship

The July Championship will be coming to a close after the last tournament this weekend and we already know what creature will be featured in the Championship in August: Quetzorion!

We don't know the exact details on the tournaments, but we know Tanycolagreus, Quezalcoatlus, and Pteranodon will be the featured rewards. This is exciting as Orion is pretty good this patch, and Quetzalcoatlus is now an exlusive creature. We expect that tournament to be especially comptetitve as people duke it out for the DNA!

More Raid Bosses

Raids are a new feature in 2.0 and they feature different bosses 4 times a week. Right now we have Sinoceratops, Mammotherium, Mortem Rex, and Smilonemys. We aren't sure how often these bosses will change, but we know they will change at some point as we found 3 more bosses in the code. We are assuming Mortem Rex will stick around for a while, but in addition to the other 3 currently on rotation we will expect to see:

Tyrannosaurus Rex (Lvl 14)

Pyrritator (level 19) 5/5/9

Grypolyth (Lvl 24) 4/20/0

We don't know the base stats so we can't calculate them with the boosts, but they will have more health, be harder hitting, and probably have a ton of resistances compared to their current arena counerparts.

Raid Boss Rewards

Speaking of Raid bosses. After the first week of battling these beasts people started to notice a large variance in recieved rewards. This seemed especially noticable on the Mortem Rex Raid when most people only received 10 DNA while we saw reports of 160 DNA being received! According to the code, these different rewards are in fact intentional and completely random.

Every player who completes a raid will receive a base amount of DNA depending on the rarity of the raid.  Those amounts are as follows:

Base Reward
Epic Legendary Unique Apex
All Levels 50 25 15 10

In addition to the base rewards, there are 3 separate bonuses that can randomly be awarded. As best we can tell, you can be awarded each bonus for any given raid, so the maximum amount of DNA possible is the sum of these bonuses plus the base amount. That means you can techincally get the base reward plus ALL of the additional bonuses listed below.

Changes to Moves

As always there are changes to moves that weren't in the notes, or were changed after the patch went live. This is what we have noticed so far. We probably missed some, but these were the big ones we noticed.

Crafty Strike

This is a new move featured on Quetzorion and in the notes it originally said it would be a dodging move. They have since edited the notes and Crafty Strike does not dodge. It attacks 1x bypassing Dodge and Armor and removes any crit or ferocious buffs.

Delay on Definite Shield Advantage

This doesn’t seem like much, but it’s actually a pretty big one considering the creature it’s on. With the 2 turn cooldown on Greater Thagomizer, Geminititan cannot cycle DSA, Decel, DSA like it can right now. In fact, it can’t use DSA turn 1 at all. It still has its uses in the arena, but leaves itself vulnerable not being able to shield against a big hit right away.

Null Rampage Cooldown

Orion got a lot of changes in 2.0 and seems to be a really strong creature this patch. With an HP buff and a new move that can do almost everything, it’s going to be a force to be reckoned with. It wasn’t mentioned in the notes, but they also gave Nullifying Rampage a 2 turn cooldown instead of the 1 turn cooldown it had in 1.14. This could be their “check” for the other changes Orion received. This should still be an incredibly strong creature, but might not be as overpowered as the notes initially made it out to be.

Slowing Impact Cooldown

Unlike some of the other moves that got longer cooldowns, Slowing Impact actually got a buff with a shorter cooldown. Instead of a cooldown of 2, it now has a cooldown of 1. This might help creatures like Monostegotops who got a pretty hefty HP nerf, but we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.

Precise Devastation

Another sneaky change that could be a game changer for creatures with this move. Devastation is now a precise move. It still has a 2 turn delay, but a 3x rampage that can hit through cloak and dodge could really help with several matchups.

Parting Words

This was a huge update that brought so many changes that we are sure we didn't find everything. We'll keep digging and make sure to let y'all know if anything else pops up. In the mean time, make sure to join our Discord for all of the most up to date information for JWA!
