Botzu's Quick Evaluation

+ Archetype: AOE Splash attacks, long attack range
+ Talent: When deployed, blocked enemies receive increased Physical Damage from ALL Operators
+ Extremely high potential damage when buffed
+ Good duration Skills with decent SP costs
= Good synergy with teams that block large groups of enemies
- Unlike other AoE Snipers, he has no abilities that increase the area size of this splash attacks.
- S2: Can be difficult to achieve its full potential, as it can miss fast moving enemies or get wasted on an enemy that dies before it can explode

Operator Overview

Story and quote translations provided by Harezora of r/Arknights

Sesa made a name for himself on the black market by “adjusting” the Originium weapons of wealthy clients, and for his own reasons he’s now assisting Rhodes Island as a 5 AoE Sniper. The legality of his modified shotguns and grenade launchers may be in question, but their effectiveness is not; Sesa’s arsenal dishes out not only heavy DPS but also debuffs, including the rare ability to reduce enemy attack speed.

You should never turn your back on Sesa, as his enemies quickly learn to their detriment. His Talent, Vulnerability Deconstruction, increases the physical damage taken by all Blocked enemies; get distracted by Sesa’s allies and you’ll find yourself in a world of pain. Be especially concerned when Sesa uses his Skill 2, Delayed Concussive Parts, which changes his regular attack into a delayed-action grenade that deals massive damage and also debuffs the attack speed of affected enemies. Sesa wants Blocking Operators to stay alive so that the team can keep taking advantage of his Talent, and reducing enemy attack speed can go a long way to helping them survive.

Sesa is not without weaknesses, much as he may try to hide them. He struggles against high-DEF foes, since his kit lacks armor-piercing or Arts damage, and some enemies cannot be blocked, which neutralizes the bonus damage from his Talent. He’s not ideal for every situation, but when you need somebody to pick on the weak and vulnerable en masse, Sesa is happy to volunteer for the job.

Newbie Tier List Explanation

Good if a lot of things are being blocked, which is more common in early parts of the game.

Note: This unit does not have Mastery grades. This means the unit is generally not one worth spending the resources of Mastery on. However this write-up should help with skill selection, should you want to use the unit regardless.

Sesa can trip people up at first, as many people discovered in the monthly IS#2 squad. But once you get the hang of it, he is a surprisingly solid unit. Paired with a good blocker, his S2 can not only dish out damage but also give a surprising amount of team support. That said, Sesa is still off-meta, and his Mastery gains aren't very special. His S2 is the obvious Mastery choice if you want one since his S1 is a generic skill with no particular use or niche.

Base Skill Analysis

Is it worth E2 for the RIIC Skill?  Probably not.  The earlier in the game you are, the more worthwhile it is.  Sesa's E0 RIIC skill allows him to produce 4-Morale Elite materials for only 2 Morale.  Adding a +75% byproduct rate to that allows him to produce a ton of Elite materials for Operator upgrades in a very short timeframe.  This is great if you're looking to upgrade a lot of Operators quickly (i.e., before an event ends), and Sesa can be a decent combat unit if he's your first E2 AoE Sniper.  However, you'll get a slightly higher rate of return in the Workshop if you use +80% Operators like Ceylon and Catapult, allowing them time to rest in between batches, and upgrading Sesa is much less important if you have already trained another AoE Sniper.

Profile

Rhodes Island Operator, Sesa, born in Sargon, provided modification services for local black market weaponry. The resume he provided was murky and proved impossible to follow up upon. After coming into direct contact with Rhodes Island in his line of work and confirming its existence, he voluntarily came to Rhodes Island to apply for a job.

Clinical Analysis

Increase Trust to 25.
Imaging tests reveal clear, normal outlines of internal organs, and no abnormal shadows have been detected. Originium granules have not been detected in the circulatory system and there are no other signs of infection. At this time, this operator can be confirmed to be uninfected.

[Cell-Originium Assimilation] 0%
Operator Sesa shows no signs of Oripathy infection.

[Blood Originium-Crystal Density] 0.19u/L
Due to a long-term exposure to Originium through the modification of Originium-based equipment for illegal organizations without adequate protective measures, Operator Sesa may be at greater risk for infection. Regular inspections are required.

Sesa uses a grenade launcher which he claims has a 'sublimated soul.' In a private inspection, engineers found that this firearm had undergone sophisticated modifications to enhance the strength of its core Originium components, allowing people with even relatively mediocre Originium Arts to draw out most of their potential. This leaves little to doubt about his Originium engineering skills. As for why he prefers mysterious and esoteric expressions to describe his work, we continue to reserve our judgment at this time.

Sesa was born into a fairly wealthy traditional family in Sargon. He was a stereotypical honors student since childhood, and was smoothly admitted into a famous local polytechnic university.
His focus in learning made him particularly clumsy when socializing with others, and he was always written off as a typical nerd, useless for anything other than his good grades.
However, he cared little about the opinions of those around him. He simply continued forward, striving to catch up to his esteemed older brother - a brilliant, sensible, eloquent, and proficient prodigy who had already secured various patents for his inventions. Sesa threw himself at his studies to be admitted to the same prestigious school as his brother with the hope of one day working with him.
Sesa's brother, seven years his elder, worked for a massive military contractor in Columbia after graduation, and put together the company's largest research lab. Six months before his graduation, Sesa finally arrived at the military laboratory for an internship. However, a cruel twist of fate separated the two brothers, when an explosion from an experimental accident claimed the life of his older brother. The sudden loss of his older brother shattered the goal he had poured himself into so ardently his whole life. With his excellent grades, he was still able to continue his education, but he immediately rejected an invitation to stay at the lab and left the college after barely graduating.
Sesa secluded himself in his room for a long time until one day, he left a letter to his father and departed.

When Sesa contacted Rhodes Island, he was modifying weapons for others in a black market weapon exchange. Needless to say, these were basically all illegal modifications. Beyond the obvious, however, it is important to note that modifying Originium firearms is extremely dangerous. From the fact that his modifications allow those who cannot use Originium Arts to operate such weaponry, one can surmise that Sesa must have made many unfathomable breakthroughs in his craftsmanship. His name soon became a mainstay in the black markets due to his reputation for excellent craftsmanship. Surprisingly, Sesa's own talent for Originium Arts is not enough for him to easily master the use of Originium equipment. In fact, he struggles to operate even the most basic of Originium weapons. For this somewhat famous weapon modifier, the reality seems a bit hard to believe as well, and this is perhaps the reason for the modifications he's made upon his own grenade launcher.
Later, when we investigated the laboratory incident, we found that Sesa's late brother, as the leader of the military laboratory, was far more proficient in Originium Arts than Sesa.
This may be the reason why Sesa has gone through such painstaking efforts, tapping into a far greater talent so that he too may be able to pick up a grenade launcher.

Archive File 4

Increase Trust to 200.
We found some clues while investigating Sesa and his brother. We found it difficult to believe that such an accident could take place in one of Columbia's most prestigious military laboratories. With this bit of skepticism in mind, we uncovered the greatest doubt of this whole incident: the fact that it was an illegal experiment.
In reality, the military giant that Sesa and his brother worked for did not focus on Originium firearms that can only be used by a select few, as the versatility and lethality of such weapons generally fell short of just applying Originium Arts to traditional crossbows.
Though the most crucial information can only be understood by Columbian military and government officials, according to some contacts, we have every reason to believe that the project the two brothers pursued is the same one that Sesa has mastered - eliminate the high barrier of entry of using Originium firearms. This can also explain why the company has not faced any backlash from either the government or the private sector despite such a major accident. The person in charge of the ill-fated experiment has even risen through the ranks, becoming a point of resistance that even Rhodes Island cannot continue to investigate.
It must be noted that even though Sesa's work has been described with awe on the black market, all he can do is enhance existing weaponry. Though Sesa might come closer to it than most people, the idea of 'letting anyone pick up an Originium firearm even without being able to use Arts' is inherently not feasible and not allowed. Originium-based technology might still have its limitations, but if certain people throughout Terra catch wind of these developments and attempt to use this technology to escalate geopolitical conflicts, there is no telling what kind of brutal, all-consuming wars we may face in the future.
'The power I deliver is growing closer to the real deal, and it is both dangerous and eye-catching... So, uh, that's why it's absolutely necessary to keep this technology under wraps!' He explained it himself.
But if this is true, is it possible that the person responsible for the accident that buried Sesa's brother... Sesa himself? Despite attempts to verify this, Rhodes Island has no right to pry into a subject that he seeks to avoid.

'Sesa is not at all some kind of delusional patient. I've seen his meticulous enhancements, masterpieces of minimalist pragmatism. His genius far eclipses what we originally thought.'
'What? But he's always...'
'This is a bit of a joke, but I think even the jokes he makes are completely serious.'
'Then why's he always spouting that nonsense about souls and true power? Besides, he's the one who can't even keep a straight face. Why not just admit he's a super genius?'
'He's faking it.'
'Why?'
'How would I know? He's too good at faking it.'

Voice Lines

Default
Appointed as Assistant Hmm, is this the Doctor's room? How boring. It looks just like those never-changing hills of Sargon. At least get a game console, will you?
Talk 1 {@nickname}, I feel something resonating from within you. How strange. Is this because we still have so much untapped potential? But alas, you've forgotten your past. Does it feel like a burden's been lifted off of you, or does it make things more painful?
Talk 2 {@nickname}, I take greater pride in natural wisdom than the knowledge that is deliberately taught! With Rhodes Island at my side, we will get ever-closer to the Great Truth. Hey, don't avert your gaze. There's nothing to be ashamed of, is there?
Talk 3 'I wish to cross over to the distant shores.' That used to be the secret phrase people used to communicate with me. That bridge is the link between two worlds, transferring wisdom and imbuing power... Hey, let me finish. It's rude to just turn around and walk off like that!
Talk after Promotion 1 Rhodes Island has some pretty tasteless folks, acting like their outer appearance is just some decoration, like a skin to be taken off! You'll come off as slovenly to people if you don't carefully coordinate your look, right? What, my clothes are tattered? You simply don't understand the boldness of this fashion statement...
Talk after Promotion 2 Do you believe that weapons have souls? The things they've experienced, the hands they've been passed through, and the reason they've been swung... No! These have nothing to do with the soul. For a weapon, any belief or meaning has been superimposed upon it. Tell me, are we weapons, or are we people with souls imposed upon us?
Talk after Trust Increase 1 A genius? Do people like that really exist...? Most craftspeople in Sargon are just ordinary apprentices who are still learning to walk, tinkering with metals. But as long as they continue down the path, even they can reach the road's destination.
Talk after Trust Increase 2 Need my help making some adjustments? My skills aren't something that can ever see the light of day. 'Allowing everyone to just pick up a weapon is the way to creating wars.' I must wear these shackles to restrict myself. Or, do you wish to unchain me and unleash havoc upon this world?
Talk after Trust Increase 3 Do you know about who I am? And about my past? No, you don't know, nor should you know. My incognito exists to bury the past behind me. Forget about it, and let these things sink into the depths of the deserts.
Idle I don't mind this kind of peace and quiet.
Onboard I know exactly what you're searching for, Doctor of Rhodes Island! You long for truth and power! And I, Sesa, am willing to grant you these things... Woah, wait, wait up! Don't push me out the door! I'm serious about my job application!
Watching Battle Record This weapon's output... I see...
Promotion 1 ...You wish for greater power? Don't draw any unnecessary attention before the time is right. Otherwise, it'll be veeery dangerous.
Promotion 2 'The bridge is the connection, the ammunition is wisdom, the weapon is the will, and harmony is equality.' Shall we tear asunder the veil that obfuscates the Truth? Perhaps I can lend you a bit more power... Just a bit more.
Added to Squad The 'bridge' seeks completion... Those weapons in your hands... May I take a closer look?
Appointed as Squad Leader Let me guide you... Just rub this oil into the bolt slot of your crossbow. Remember to apply it uniformly.
Depart It's time for our efforts to bear fruit! Just remember, these weapons must be handled delicately.
Begin Operation The battlefield destroys both weapons and their hosts.
