  • Catria and Thea are a fantastic Aether Raids Defense unit thanks to their Wedding-Bell Axe.
    • The Wedding-Bell Axe grants an “Orders” effect to both the Azure Wing Pair and all allies within 2 spaces. This effect allows units to teleport to spaces adjacent to allies within 2 spaces, making it fantastic for creating deceptive traps in which ranges get extended on turn 1 Enemy Phase to more than what they were on turn 1 Player Phase. In combination with 7th unit traps and Rally traps, Catria and Thea can become an integral part of aggressive, range-oppressive Aether Raids Defense Keeps, especially since they also activate the Duo’s Hindrance structure to prevent Offense players from activating their Duo and Harmonic Skills.
    • Catria and Thea’s personal weapon also grants the【Triangle Attack】effect to the Azure Wing Pair and allies within 2 spaces, which allows them to attack twice during combat (a Brave weapon effect) if they initiate combat and have at least 2 allies with 【Triangle Attack】within 2 spaces of them. This can potentially skyrocket the team’s overall damage output, securing KOs on even the bulkiest Aether Raids Offense units.
    • The icing on the cake is that if Catria and Thea initiate combat or are within 2 spaces of an ally, they gain +6 Atk/Spd during combat, helping them become a potent force in both a supportive and a combative sense. Since Wedding-Bell Axe accelerates the Azure Wing Pair’s Special cooldown by 1, in combination with Quickened Pulse, Catria and Thea can have a 2-cooldown Special such as Ruptured Sky or Moonbow ready on turn 1.
  • The Azure Wing Pair’s base Atk/Spd Push 4 and Spd/Def Rein work wonders for further increasing their offensive potency, with the former granting +7 Atk/Spd during combat if their HP is ≥ 25% and the latter inflicting -4 Spd/Def on enemies within 2 spaces. Their base A/D Near Trace inflicts -3 Atk/Def to grant Catria and Thea extra bulk and damage, in addition to allowing them to move after combat to give allies space to move and attack or use Assist skills.
  • Alternatively, the Azure Wing Pair can use Odd Tempest to increase their movement by 1 on odd turns and thus increase their threat range. If maximizing offenses is more desirable than an instant 2-cooldown Special, Quickened Pulse can be swapped for Swift Sparrow to increase Catria and Thea’s offenses by 4 when they initiate combat.

  • The combination of Wedding-Bell Axe and the Azure Wing Pair’s Harmonic Skill makes them an excellent choice for Galeforce strategies on Aether Raids Offense. These strategies use Wings of Mercy and Galeforce to sweep the enemy team in one Player Phase; the most difficult part of this strategy is oftentimes getting a unit’s HP to ≤ 50% so everyone else can teleport adjacent to them via Wings of Mercy. The difficulty in this is ironically amplified by Catria and Thea’s【Triangle Attack】and【Desperation】effects, as both effects increase the chance that the unit will not receive a counterattack, thus not receiving damage and not falling to ≤ 50% HP to serve as a “Wings of Mercy beacon” for their allies. However, if Catria and Thea are the initiator of this Galeforce chain, they do not have to worry about either of these, as they will not have 2 allies within 2 spaces for Triangle Attack and Desperation can be activated at will (if at all with Duo’s Hindrance taken into account). Once allies begin to warp with Wings of Mercy, they can activate their Harmonic Skill to practically secure the one-phase sweep, as the team’s damage output dramatically increases.
    • The -1 Special cooldown from Wedding-Bell Axe allows the Azure Wing Pair to activate Galeforce after 2 attacks with Heavy Blade (assuming no Guard effect is affecting them), making it fairly consistent for Galeforce strategies.
    • It should be noted that Catria and Thea’s Attack is so high that they may OHKO the enemy, preventing them from taking damage to allow allies with Wings of Mercy to teleport to spaces adjacent to the Azure Wing Pair. While this shouldn’t be too much of an issue since frontliners are typically quite bulky and/or Red, Catria and Thea can use Heavy Blade 3 in their A slot and Drive Atk in their Sacred Seal to prevent their Attack from surging too high.
  • Atk/Spd Push 4 and Fury both deal recoil damage, making it easier for the Azure Wing Pair to fall to ≤ 50% HP. Spd/Def Rein and Joint Drive Atk bolster Catria and Thea’s offensive capabilities if necessary, in addition to supporting allies through Spd/Def debuffs for the former and Attack buffs for the latter.
  • A/D Near Trace inflicts -3 Atk/Def on the enemy during combat and allows the Azure Wing Pair to move after combat. The extra mobility granted by A/D Near Trace makes it very valuable for Wings of Mercy + Galeforce strategies, as moving just one space can be the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful turn. Note that Galeforce is prioritized over A/D Near Trace’s Canto effect, so if Catria and Thea are to activate Galeforce after their first combat, they would be able to Canto after their second combat, opening the potential for hit-and-run Galeforce strategies as well.

Strengths

Stellar offenses

The Azure Wing Pair boasts terrifying 40/41 offenses, allowing them to deal incredible damage and very consistently perform follow-up attacks. If deployed primarily for supportive purposes, Catria and Thea can also soak visible Atk/Spd debuffs from skills such as Chill Atk and Chill Spd and the Bright Shrine structure in Aether Raids.

Workable physical bulk

Coincidentally, the Azure Wing Pair has the same 67 physical bulk that Catria and Thea have individually. While 67 is not particularly special, it is usually sufficient for surviving at least one physical attack.

However, it should be noted that the Azure Wing Pair should be initiating for a vast majority of their combats, and given their【Triangle Attack】and【Desperation】effects from Wedding-Bell Axe and their Harmonic Skill respectively, they will oftentimes KO before receiving a counterattack anyways.

Wedding-Bell Axe

The middle Whitewings steal the show (wedding?) partially due to their personal weapon, the Wedding-Bell Axe.

  • As with many personal weapons nowadays, Wedding-Bell Axe has a Slaying effect, accelerating Catria and Thea’s Special trigger (decreasing its cooldown by 1).
  • If the Azure Wing Pair is within 2 spaces of an ally at the start of the turn, they grant the following to themselves and allies within 2 spaces:
    • ...an “Orders” effect, allowing them to warp to a space adjacent to an ally within 2 spaces, and...
    • ...the【Triangle Attack】effect, which allows the unit to attack twice during combat (a Brave weapon effect) if they initiate combat and have at least 2 allies with【Triangle Attack】within 2 spaces of them.
  • The icing on the wedding cake is that if Catria and Thea initiate combat or are within 2 spaces of an ally, they gain +6 Atk/Spd during combat.

This Axe is quite the doozy, as it greatly enhances the mobility and combat potential of both the Azure Wing Pair and their allies.

Harmonic Hero

On top of a potentially ridiculous personal weapon, the Azure Wing Pair is also a Harmonic Hero, so they have a Harmonic Skill that can be activated on command. When activated, it grants the following to the Azure Wing Pair and all allies from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia or Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade for 1 turn:

  • ...an effect that allows the unit to make a guaranteed follow-up attack if they initiate combat,
  • ...the【Resonance: Blades】effect, which grants +4 Atk/Spd during combat, and...
  • ...the【Desperation】effect, which allows the unit to make their follow-up attack before the enemy can counterattack.

This Harmonic Skill can significantly increase the entire team’s Player Phase damage output and survivability, especially in combination with Wedding-Bell Axe’s【Triangle Attack】effect.

On a lighter note, they look so happy, and their Harmonic conversation was really cute, too. :)

Flier benefits

Flier status is nicer than many players give it credit for; superior mobility is very beneficial for Player Phase movement, whether that be for going on the offensive and initiating against faraway enemies or going on the defensive and retreating to safety. Since Fliers do not receive movement penalties from and are able to move through trenches, rivers, lava tiles, and forests, they can grant their team much-needed flexibility and maneuverability.

Catria and Thea also have access to skills such as their native A/D Near Trace and Spd/Def Rein to further cement their offensive capabilities and, for the former, allow them to move after combat for even more flexibility.

Fantastic hybrid of combat and support

All of the above strengths make the Azure Wing Pair a relatively rare case of a hybrid unit that performs exceedingly well at both combative and supportive roles simultaneously. They provide incredible mobility and combat buffs to both themselves and their allies (specifically those from the same game as them in the case of their Harmonic Skill), making them a fantastic member of nearly any team composition.

Amazing base kit

While not a testament to their performance, Catria and Thea have an optimized base kit that, for many players, requires very little change. This is very convenient and appealing for newer players or players that are unable to fodder expensive skills.

Weaknesses

Low magical bulk

Catria and Thea are two of the few Pegasus Knights in FEH that have higher Defense than Resistance, and that trend continues even when they are together. With only 63 magical bulk, they are prone to being OHKO’d by magical enemies, especially given that their Green color gives them weapon triangle disadvantage against Lysithea, Brave Lysithea, Summer Byleth, Fallen Julia, Legendary Lilina, Morgan (M), Fallen Morgan (M), Idunn, and Spring Idunn, some of the hardest-hitting magical enemies in the game.

As mentioned previously, however, the Azure Wing Pair should be initiating rather than defending most of the time, so lacking magical bulk is not a detrimental weakness.

Flier drawbacks

Not even the best Whitewing pair can escape their Flier woes. While lacking access to Null Follow-Up is not as detrimental as it could be thanks to their【Triangle Attack】effect and Harmonic Skill, there is no guarantee that either will be active at any given time.

Lacking access to the Spurn family of damage reduction skills and needing Iote’s Shield to prevent them from receiving effective damage from Flier-effective weaponry makes an Enemy Phase set undesirable for Catria and Thea.

Restricted by Duo’s Hindrance

As with all other Duo and Harmonic Heroes, Catria and Thea are unable to activate their Harmonic Skill in Aether Raids Offense if the enemy’s Duo’s Hindrance structure is active. Given how powerful Duo and Harmonic Heroes typically are, almost every Tier 21+ Defense Keep uses Duo’s Hindrance, which can make the Azure Wing Pair’s ability to activate their Harmonic Skill inconsistent.

However, this isn’t to say that the Azure Wing Pair is a mediocre unit outside of their Harmonic Skill. Their aforementioned Wedding-Bell Axe and outstanding offensive potency make them incredibly powerful for both combat and mobility purposes.

Harmonized Skill

Grants the following effects to unit and allies from the same titles as unit for 1 turn: 【Resonance: Blades】,【Desperation】, and "if unit initiates combat, unit makes a guaranteed follow-up attack."

【Resonance: Blades】 Grants Atk/Spd+4 during combat for 1 turn.

【Desperation】 Grants the following effect for 1 turn: "If unit initiates combat, unit can make a follow-up attack before foe can counterattack."
