Overview

Cobalion barely falls into the range of being duoable, but the list of Pokemon capable of making it and the conditions under which it's possible are very narrow. The wrong weather or moveset will likely result in failure. A trio, on the other hand, is definitely doable in any weather and without the need for weather and/or friendship boosts

Approach

Team Composition

  • Chandelure is the best overall counter when it's Clear, a mix of Breloom and Machamp when it's cloudy.
  • Blaziken has lower damage, but is still above the DPS needed to solo when it's Clear
  • Moltres' average DPS is slightly below Duo range in Clear weather, but can act as a stop-gap if you can get a bit ahead of the clock

Battling Strategy

  • A Duo is only viable in Clear or Cloudy weather with tailor-fit counters
  • Close Combat and Metal Claw is the ideal moveset to fight against
  • Dodge only if you're close to executing another charged move in order to keep up DPS.
  • Have a second team ready to go, as this will be a very close match.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters Viable in Clear Weather at Lv.40
Chandelure Chandelure
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Best overall counter, has high DPS and TDO
  • Resists Steel Type movesets, double-resists Close Combat

Cons:

  • Weak to Stone Edge
  • One-bar Charged Move, may need to dodge Charged Moves if fainting means the loss of more than half a bar
  • Currently rare and fairly hard to obtain a full team
Blaziken Blaziken
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Great overall counter, keeps up adequate DPS
  • Resists Steel Type movesets
  • Common species, featured in its own Community Day

Cons:

  • Weak to Zen Headbutt
  • Requires community day move to be effective
  • Benefits from having Blaze Kick as a second Charged Move in order to use up remaining energy right before fainting
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Frequently featured Legendary species

Cons:

  • Legendary species, Candy can be harder to obtain
  • Very weak to Stone Edge
  • One-bar Charged Move, may need to dodge Charged Moves if fainting means the loss of more than half a bar
  • More of a stop-gap. Its average DPS is just barely too low to duo alone, needs support from Chandelure and/or Blaziken to be viable
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Almost strictly used to keep from having an additional relobby due to its higher bulk.

Cons:

  • Lacks the DPS threshold to solo by itslef, needs support from higher DPS options.
Counters Viable in Cloudy Weather at Lv.40
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Best DPS option in Cloudy Weather, a few may be needed to beat the clock.
  • Resists Stone Edge

Cons:

  • Frail. Players need to know when to dodge in order to keep up DPS and when to simply allow a given Breloom to faint in order to not lose DPS.
  • Weak to Zen Headbutt
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Great overall counter capable of keeping up damage while lasting longer than Breloom
  • Resists Stone Edge

Cons:

  • Needs DPS support from Breloom to manage the Duo
  • Weak to Zen Headbutt
