Benefits from gold gym badges?

Of course, earning gold gym badges is a goal in itself, but what tangible benefits does it offer? I only know that badges increase the items earned from spinning a gym (but the difference is small except for daily streaks).

Idea: Bonus balls for completing a raid at a gym where you have a badge (1 ball for bronze, 2 for silver and 3 or 4 for gold).

I think you need to get rid of the gym control bonus for this, but I definitely do agree that awarding long-term commitment to the gym would be a good thing to have. I would go with +1 for silver, +2 for gold, bronze is so easy to get it doesn't need a reward.

The reward of extra items is pretty good honestly. I have a cluster of 3 gyms near my home that can be looped around in 5 minutes. The loop produces 6/9 items(depending on color) from the gyms with no badge and 15/21 with gold badge. In an hour that makes 72/108 vs 180/252. Huge difference for grinding efficiency.

No you don't need to get rid of anything. You just need to merge it.

You could merge Balls for Gyms with Personal Damage Balls OR Team Damage Ball OR Gym Control, keeping same maximums.

For example with Personal the limit is +3, so you get the higher of your Gym Status (1 B, 2 S, 3G) or your damage contribution to reflect how much you fight at that gym.

For example with Team Bonus/Gym Control the limit is +2. So you could always get the +2 Gym Control Bonus when you are Gold at a gym, and a +1 Gym Control Bonus when Silver. Since those limits are 2 you wouldn't do anything for easy to get bronze.

Personally, I would merge it with Gym Control. since getting gold shows you have controlled the gym a ton, regardless of what team controls it right the second the boss spawns.

I'm with ya 100%. I do try and hit a gold gym for my daily streak, but outside of that, I couldn't care less about gyms anymore. Being on the minority team, I just accept that I'm going to get 8 balls in most cases. I'm a level 39 player, here are my gyms. 2 golds and 1 silver are on military bases, so little competition. They need to do something to make gyms interesting.

In Singapore, defenders rarely last eight hours (despite prevalent GRB feeding) and the minority team is notorious for cheating. I am level 38, with 3 gold badges and 23 silver badges. Miss prestiging.

Sorry, wasn't trying to poke fun. I was just trying to show that I used to do gyms a lot and I don't any more. Friend of mine have 30 gold gyms. I guess it shows the difference in areas.

The battle girl honestly doesn't show much, if anything it's easier to grind nowadays that gyms can only have one Blissey and motivation decay lets you get faster battles. Envy you that trainer medal though, mine's stuck in silver because I foolishly assumed they weren't going to make legacy medals.

Yes, i dont do gym much now since gym system change, just doing it to get coins
9000ish in the old gym system, since then i only add about 3000ish in battle girl.
Sometimes i missed those full tower of Blissey gym, especially in a gym where there is a place to be relax and order some coffee..
Still doing that sometimes when people start GRB it until he/she gave up or i am geting bored..

The difference can be considerable if you have a location nearby that it can be used effectively.
One of my fav places to refill my bag has as many as 13 stops over a decent walk, and 5 gyms.

It is worth me turning all the gyms to my team prior to restocking. Although I spend time clearing gyms, rather than just spinning stops, I spend less time topping up my items by taking the gyms than I would if I just spin stops. Of course, these gyms were Gold a long time ago and doing this has vastly reduced the time it takes for me to stock up again...and encouraged me to actually battle and not just spin stops.
That time saved is very valuable.

Sure, not everywhere will have a location where this can be effective...but I am quite sure I am not the only one in the world that has a spot like this.

With all that sidetrack, sure I would be happy to see a way to get more balls at raids, and more than happy for gym badges to mean more.

Give 1 ball per medal, so 3 for a gold. And a stardust bonus for battling a gym...I would do it all day.

Edit: Give 20 stardust per win.
That's 120 dust for 1 sweep through a totally unmotivated gym.
360 dust for taking down a fully motivated gym (no berries)
2,520 dust for taking down a 6 pokemon gym with maximum golden razzberry used.
Cap the total dust amount at 5,000 dust a day, like under the old system.
I would battle gyms every day.

You wouldn't be the only one battling gyms every day. Would be a great little motivator, currently the main reason why I wouldn't fight a gym is that it's time spent not earning stardust.

It help m quite a lot, i only have 1 pokestop nearby but 3 gym in my area.
Since gym can be spun it help me, i used to go to the area with many pokestop in the weekend to stock up, and use it during the weekdays as i only can be active playing PoGo on weekend
Now i can raid on the weekend instead..

Pokemon Go's in-game differences are generally the smaller ones on the surface. The game is all about min/max. Why else would anyone trash a 15/15/14 mon and yet brag about a 15/15/15 when they're almost identical?

The difference between a bronze gym and a gold is actually quite substantial. Firstly, and most importantly, the increased items from spins. The difference is not small. The difference is sometimes 200% more than if the gym was not gold (not even considering 7th day spins). This means instead of two to three items you get 6 to 9 items. But, consider if you spin this gym a few hundred times...now you can see the difference.

The idea that gyms needs to offer more stuff to gold is quite unnecessary. It also takes almost no real effort to get a gold gym. If you raid a lot at that gym you can gold it fairly quickly. I have some gold gyms that have less than 2 days defending.

There is no actual work required to gold a gym. It can happen without any effort so long as you're playing the game a lot and it's nearby. Therefore, I don't personally see any reason for it to do more for you. I think a gold gyms already provides considerable dividends relative to non-gold gyms.

That's not minmaxing, that's just being stupid.

EDIT: It's of course true that gyms on your daily commute are pretty effortless to get. Just keep going every day and they'll be gold eventually. But when you start collecting gyms that aren't on your usual routes, it can get pretty hard. The worst are those that an opposing team member can reach from home, I've done one like that and it was a painful slog to gold.

That's where I am. All the gyms in the radius of my main hunting grounds are gold. It's the ones outside that that become tedious to complete. I don't see much benefit to grinding those anymore, as my current gold gyms far exceed any item needs I have, and that's not even counting items now gained through gifts.

I've golded everything near-near me me (visible + the next one in each direction), except for a newly added (Friday) one. I've decided to start going out in an expanding circle; it's netted me two so far with only a little more effort finding my route home.

For exactly the same reasons I didn't make any new gold gyms for months, but got motivated lately because many other high level players in my area are also into which made it fun.

"It also takes almost no real effort to get a gold gym."
"There is no actual work required to gold a gym."

Not true for densely populated areas where gyms are highly competitive. Even with GRB feeding, defenders hardly ever last eight hours.

(Of course, I realise that us city players have it easier in many other ways. The item bonus from gold gyms is barely relevant when there are stops within a few minutes' walk in any direction.)

But you can get gold faster by battling a gym than you can by sitting in it. Let's assume it's a fully motivated gyms with GRB defense. My guess is a 3K Blissey and Snorlax, and 4 others in the 2.5k range. If you try taking that down that's about 160 points the first pass, and about 100 the second pass. That should take about 10 minutes.

You battle for an hour and you've got over 1000 points, on defense, you'll get 160 points plus berries (maybe another 400-600). But clearly raiding is the most time efficient.

I like the idea, but I think it should be different rewards than extra balls. I'd say it should be a Stardust bonus - like for a Bronze Badge, +100 Stardust (600 Total), for a Silver Badge, +250 Stardust (750 Total), for a Gold Badge, +500 Stardust (1000 Total).
