PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Snarl and Foul Play make Shadow Houndoom a formidable Dark Type attacker
  • Fire Fang and Flamethrower make Shadow Houndoom a usable Fire Type attacker
  • When both of its types are Super Effective, Fire Fang and Foul Play bring out maximum DPS.
  • Crunch and Fire Blast are less powerful options.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Fire Fang has the highest power, making it the superior choice in general
  • Snarl is weak on defense
  • Crunch comes out early and frequently, making it the move of choice.
  • Flamethrowe and Foul Play are both usable
  • Fire Blast is far too slow to be viable

PVE Overview

Shadow Houndoom is a very strong Dark Type attacker, and an okay Fire Type attacker. And honestly, not much else can be said. When its types are synergetic with one another, it can definitely be a top choice, but do keep in mind that its low bulk can easily hamstring its performance.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Snarl + Flamethrower and Crunch or Foul Play

Snarl sports a tiny 1.66 DPT (Damage Per Turn) along-side a huge 4.33 EPT (Energy Per Turn), allowing it to charge up moves very quickly.

Crunch and Foul Play share identical stats(70 Power/45 Energy) and when combined with Flamethrower (90 Power/55 Energy), you'll be throwing out decently powerful attacks at a very good rate.

Fire Fang + Flamethrower and Crunch

This moveset goes to the other end of the spectrum by making use of Fire Fang with its high 4 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and its meager 2.5 EPT (Energy Per Turn) in order to rack up fast damage. It's definitely slower than the Snarl variant, but it still has its niches where it can operate.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1.5 / 5

Shadow Houndoom is definitely a glass cannon of a Pokemon. It can come in and rip into the opposition very hard, but at the same time it's ripped apart even faster in the majority of scenarios. It's not really considered "good", but if Fire/Dark ends up synergetic for a team, then it might be worth a consideration?

Ultra League: 1 / 5

Despite the fact that Steel and Ghost Types tend to be huge in the Ultra League, this Pokemon with types that can directly counter them just lacks the presence needed to work.

Master League: 0 / 5

Shadow Houndoom is outright outclassed here.
