PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Confusion is the superior fast move on offense.
  • Extrasensory falls behind, but not by much.
  • Future Sight benefits from STAB and is Mesprit's highest DPS moveset.
  • Blizzard lacks STAB and doesn't suit Mesprit's role.
  • Swift lacks STAB and can't be Super Effective vs anything.

PVE Overview

Mesprit has middling attack, middling defense, and middling stamina. While it's not necessarily terrible, it's not particularly exciting either. Higher Psychic-type DPS than Lugia, but lower than even Confusion/Psychic Gardevoir. If you have access to Alakazam or Espeon, I have a feeling you'll want to leave the Emotion Pokémon on the bench.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Confusion + Future Sight and Swift or Blizzard

Confusion sports significantly stronger damage output than Extrasensory, though the latter generates energy slightly faster.

Future Sight benefits from STAB to threaten considerable damage, but demands a lot of energy to use. Swift is a very poor charge move, lacks STAB, and can't hit anything for Super Effective damage. Its only niche is its cheaper energy cost, which is still quite expensive. Blizzard costs the most amount of energy, but provides useful coverage and can also deal significant damage if unshielded.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1 / 5

Just like Azelf and Uxie, Mesprit suffers from a lack of low energy charge moves, making it very cumbersome and slow to use. While it has obvious advantages against Fighting and Poison-type Pokemon, Mesprit's damage largely comes from its hard hitting fast move, which makes it difficult to pressure shields. Numerous Pokemon compete for a slot on your team, which makes it difficult for Mesprit to stand out.

Ultra League: 1 / 5

Mesprit falls behind other bulky Psychic Pokemon like Cresselia or Armored Mewtwo in this league, and is strictly an inferior pick due to its slow access to costly charge moves. Confusion hits hard when it has a typing advantage, but the same can be said for other Psychic-types as well.

Master League: 0 / 5

With a max CP of 3058, Mesprit would appreciate additional stats to compete with various other legendary and pseudo-legendary Pokemon. Just like Uxie and Azelf, its sluggish moveset is its main drawback, with expected wins against Fighting-types, and losses against just about every other meta candidate.
