PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Sacred Sword* is an excellent move, and should be paired with Double Kick to make Terrakion an extremely powerful Fighting attacker. In the event that Sacred Sword is unavailable, Close Combat can be used, but its performance is significantly worse.
  • Smack Down should be paired with Rock Slide to make Terrakion a very potent Rock Type attacker
  • Zen Headbutt is not worth considering.
  • Earthquake serves no purpose on Terrakion and waste its potential.

PVE Overview

Terrakion was long looked to as the potential future king of both Rock and Fighting-types. It had the potential to be a very large force in the meta that could re-shape numerous matchups moving forward and take the game by storm. But then Rampardos was given a shockingly outstanding moveset and Terrakion itself wasn't given the Fighting-type moves that it needed to surpass the Fighting-type king...

...Up until August 31, 2022, where Terrakion was finally granted a Fighting-type Fast Attack in Double Kick. Combined with Sacred Sword's incredible parameters, Terrakion now claims the throne as the premier Fighting attacker, surpassing even the likes of Lucario and Shadow Machamp. However, Terrakion does occasionally show hints of mortality, as its partial Rock typing can hinder it with weaknesses that the other Fighting-type competitors don't have to worry about.

Terrakion's is a decent choice for a Rock-type attacker, although it often finds itself outclassed. It has DPS that's substantially lower than Rampardos, similar to Rock Wrecker Rampardos, but with far lower TDO. Its one advantage in this regard is that it does not have any double weaknesses.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Double Kick + Rock Slide and Sacred Sword*

Double Kick grants Terrakion the energy generation to make full use of its strong STAB combination and excellent Charged Attacks. Smack Down is decent but its low energy gain does combine well with its good Charged Attacks. Zen Headbutt is horrendous.

Sacred Sword is a cheap and highly efficient attack, making up for Smack Down's low energy gain. Rock Slide is necessary for its coverage, and sports a high 1.667 DPE (Damage Per Energy) backed by STAB. Close Combat has a greater damage potential than Sacred Sword, but is difficult to use reliably due to Terrakion's frailty and Smack Down's low energy gain. Earthquake is very expensive and generally does not offer Terrakion meaningful coverage.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: N/A

Currently Terrakion can only be obtained from raids, which means its high CP makes it impossible for Terrakion to compete in Great League. Maybe in the future Terrakion will be featured in Research Breakthrough.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

Terrakion is an offensive Pokemon in PvP, with a relatively high ATK stat, plus wide and powerful coverage as a Rock/Fighting type. Unfortunately those perks are also Terrakion's biggest liabilities, as Terrakion has poor bulk and also has to deal with 7 weaknesses. While its Fighting-type coverage and typing is quite valuable against Dark-type Pokemon in this league, this niche is about the only thing Terrakion has going for it. Advantages against Lapras and Steel-types are counteracted by weaknesses against those Pokemon as well, which puts Terrakion in a difficult spot since it doesn't have the bulk or high energy gains to keep up.

Master League: 3.5 / 5

Rock and Fighting is a proven effective attacking combination, as evidenced by Landorus-T and Melmetal. Terrakion even boasts STAB and superior moves, and its stats aren't bad as well. So why isn't Terrakion rated higher? The answer lies in its defensive typing - Terrakion's typing is littered with weaknesses that almost every Pokemon in the Master League can abuse, and thus it may struggle to convincingly win matchups. Finding the appropriate teammates to cover its weaknesses can be tough as well. Common Pokemon such as Zacian, Mewtwo, and Giratina give Terrakion tremendous issues. However, due to its incredible moveset and strong STAB combination, Terrakion is more than capable of mercilessly running over certain team compositions, and it has excellent cleanup potential if it can find room to farm opponents down.
