Niantic Announces the Season of Mischief

Submit Feedback or Error

Summer is taking its final bows in the Northern hemisphere, giving way to Autumn and the changes that it brings. The Southern hemisphere is getting ready to bid Winter a farewell as Spring appears. And, of course, the Season of Discovery is seeing its final days, as something far more... mischievous takes center stage. See that big hoop in the sky? Well, it's finally time to add the Pokemon that made it to our collections, as the Season of Mischief begins in Pokemon Go!

Season of Mischief Special Research

We're going in strong with a new Special Research line that will be released in parts, and will introduce Hoopa - Confined forme to players.

We don't have the full list of events yet, but here's what we do know is coming:

Date Event Stage
September 1 Welcome to the Season of Mischief
September 5 Hoopa's Arrival
September 8 ???
September 21 ???
October ? ???
October ? ???
November ? ???
November ? ???

As is revealed above, we don't know a whole lot about the storyline for this season, except for information on the first two parts, the fact that it's 8-parts in total, and the fact that players that complete all of the parts of this season's story will be given access to a special event at season's end!

Welcome to the Season of Mischief

This looks to be a simple research line, as it focuses on Hoopa stealing Professor Willow's glasses. This will be the first part of the new research line, and should introduce Hoopa to Pokemon Go players a bit more than what we've already seen through Go Fest and the resulting Unlocks.

Hoopa's Arrival

This one will be a semi-typical Incense event with a few added bonuses.

  • Each hour, a different 1-2 types will be attracted to Incense.
  • 2x Transfer Candy
  • A free Incense bundle will be available in the shop
  • A collection challenge will be available for the Incense event, rewarding Hoopa candy and a "Pokeball Lift" avatar pose.
  • Special field research will be available that will reward Rare Candy and different types of Pokeballs.

Seasonal Changes

While Hoopa is taking center-stage for this event, it's not alone in the festivities. As with every other season to date, general changes to our game-world are also on their way.

Biome Spawn Changes

This year, we don't just have the normal seasonal changes, we also have changes by biome as well. These appear to be global changes, and the lists below are the ones that we know, but they're definitely not complete.

City Biome

Forrest Biome

Mountain Biome

Water Biome

Hemisphere Spawn Changes

And, of course, with the season comes a new set of hemisphere-based spawns. Note that the Deerling in the Northern and Southern hemispeheres will be Autumn and Spring formes respectively.

Other Changes

We have a few other changes to discuss here, as the Season of Mischief will have even more changes.

Boosted Mega Evolutions

The old Mega Boost system is back for the Season of Mischief, and we have at least one that is very note-worthy!

Boosted Month: September

Mega Slowbro is... not a big deal, even given a CP boost. It's not terrible due to the fact that its bulk can provide a fairly long team power boost, but it's definitely nothing outstanding enough to be worth investing in for the month.

Boosted Month: October

Oh boy... Mega Gengar is already one of the absolute strongest Pokemon in the raid scene thanks to its titanic Attack stat and outstanding Ghost Type moveset, so why not make it even stronger? If anything is weak to Ghost this month (and a number of things probably will be. It's October), then this spook is going to be the go-to grinning nuke.

Boosted Month: November

Mega Houndoom is a very overlooked and underrated Mega Evolution. It sports high damage in two good types, and can easily change utility with a simple TM as none of its best moves are Elite. It's a bit frail, but the CP boost should make it a very strong Pokemon that can be useful through the month.

Egg Shake-Up

The egg pool is about to change once again, with a few note-worthy highlights along the way. We aren't going to break it down here as we only have a very bare-bones selection shown, but we will update our Egg page as soon as we have the full list.

Well, now we have nine brand-new Pokemon that it can disguise itself as:
