In a recent Twitter post made by Niantic, we've seen the silhouette of what is unmistakably Galarian Yamask

Galarian Yamask, and more importantly its evolution, Runerigus, are likely to be a part of the upcoming Halloween event, which is perfect given their Ghost/Ground typing. These Pokemon made their debut in Pokemon Sword & Shield, where they were instantly fan favorites. In order to prepare for their release, here are a few likely facts about this Pokemon line:

  • Galarian Yamask and Runerigus are almost sure to use normal Yamask candy, as all Galarian and Alolan formes have used the candy of their basic formes
  • Runerigus may not be released during the Halloween event, as we currently have Galarian Farfetch'd, but not Sirfetch'd
  • We do not yet know the moves for either of these Pokemon
  • Given the right moveset, Runerigus has quite a bit of potential in PvP. Hopefully it doesn't get Astonish as its Ghost Type fast move.
  • Shadow Claw is a very likely fast move for Runerigus, as it learns the move on evolution in the main series

Runerigus Potential Movesets

Fast Moves:

  • Shadow Claw
  • Astonish
  • Hex
  • Zen Headbutt

Charge Moves:

  • Night Shade
  • Shadow Ball
  • Earthquake
  • Hyper Beam
  • Giga Impact
  • Rock Slide
  • Rock Tomb
  • Sand Tomb
  • Rock Blast
  • Bulldoze
  • Psychic
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Energy Ball
  • Earth Power
  • Stone Edge
  • Grass Knot

Overall, we have a lot to work with here. Basically any mix of the better charged moves listed here would be outstanding. A few stands outs are Shadow Ball, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Psychic, Energy Ball, Earth Power, Stone Edge, and Grass Knot. However, the PvP viability for this Pokemon rests almost entirely on its fast move. If it receives Shadow Claw, it could be a huge threat. If it gains Hex, then it could still be a great Pokemon overall and a real option. But if it gets Astonish or Zen Headbutt.... it will be a very cool dex filler.
