PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Wing Attack is superior to Quick Attack for STAB and damage.

  • Aerial Ace is Yanma’s best charge move, due to STAB and cooldown.

  • Silver Wind has STAB, but takes almost four seconds to cast.

  • Ancient Power has no advantages on Yanma, provided it isn’t required for Yanma to evolve in Gen 4 as in the console games.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Wing Attack is marginally superior to Quick Attack due to damage.

  • Ancient Power covers Yanma’s Fire, Flying, and Ice-type weaknesses. It’s optimal on defense.

  • Silver Wind is marginally superior to Aerial Ace for damage output and STAB. It’s worth noting that Aerial Ace has far less resistances.

PVE Overview

Yanma is, like many of its single-evolution brethren, waiting for a next gen evolution to make it relevant. It has awful stats, awful CP, and is double weak to Rock-type, commonly found in the meta today.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Wing Attack + Aerial Ace and Ancient Power or Silver Wind

Wing Attack and Quick Attack have identical stats, but the former benefits from STAB.

All of Yanma's charge moves cost the same 45 energy, which means it doesn't need to shield-bait. Ancient Power and Silver Wind have identical stats for PvP, both offering different type coverage, and both also have the small chance to increase Yanma's stats. However the nerf following the April 2020 rebalance have heavily affected these two moves. Aerial Ace benefits from STAB to offer greater damage output, but is still unimpressive.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 0 / 5

Yanma isn't a good candidate for PvP, with a relatively poor defensive stat resulting in less bulk and a Bug/Flying typing which gives more weaknesses than resistances. To make matters worse, Yanma isn't equipped with the best moveset either, which is also unfortunate. A loss against Kantonian Exeggutor (Confusion) which from a typing standpoint shouldn't happen, lowers the overall expectations of Yanma. Overall a rather poor choice considering that Yanma needs to be maxed out to level 40 to fully reach its potential; perhaps consider other Pokemon instead.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

Yanma's max CP is 1470 which is not enough for Ultra League.

Master League: 0 / 5
