Overview

Palkia, like its Origin Forme, is a Pokemon with only two weaknesses; Dragon and Fairy. And, as is normally the case, Dragon is the best option here by a wide margin. Fortunately, Palkia will tend to use Water or Fire Type moves, meaning a lot of dragons actually tend to have a surprisingly high TDO in many scenarios.

This guide will focus on the Trio primarily, but a Duo is definitely doable given the right counters and circumstances.

Approach

Team composition

  • Dragons are the name of the game here. Fairy Types can also work, but they fall behind quite a bit

Dodging strategy

  • Draco Meteor and Fire Blast should definitely be dodged if you want a bit more longevity. Despite FIre Blast being resisted by most of Palkia's counters, it can actually can hit pretty hard over time. Draco Meteor, meanwhile, will brutalize just about anything that it hits. Hydro Pump should be dodged as well, but it's substantially harder to get the timing for. Aqua Tail doesn't hit super hard and is resisted by most Dragons, so it's generally okay to just take it unless you're low on HP and close to a Charged Move.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Supreme Mega Evolution Counters

Mega Rayquaza Mega Rayquaza
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

If a Dragon weakness appears, then you can bet that Mega Rayquaza will make itself known. This is the ultimate dragon-killer, with sky-high DPS and surprisingly high TDO despite sporting a weakness to both of Palkia's Fast Moves and Draco Meteor. Nothing can match this monster, and it should be the top priority.

Good Mega Evolution Counters

Mega Garchomp Mega Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Garchomp has the disadvantage of not resisting Palkia's Water Type moves, but it's still a very worthy silver medal to Mega Rayquaza... though admittedly a fairly distant silver medal.

Mega Salamence Mega Salamence
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While basically a vanilla Dragon Type for all intents and purposes for this raid, Mega Salamence still manages to be a solid Mega option here.

Mega Gardevoir Mega Gardevoir
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Gardevoir has the outstanding benefit of double-resisting Dragon Type moves, and has a great TDO with great DPS as a direct result. However, it doesn't resist Palkia's Fire or Water type moves, so its potentially stellar TDO-focused performance tends to drop a bit on average.

Mega Latios Mega Latios
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pretty much the same story as Mega Salamence.

Mega Latias Mega Latias

Pretty much the same story as Mega Latios.

Supreme Counters

Shadow Salamence Shadow Salamence
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Salamence has long been known as the non-Mega Dragon king, and it's one of the best ways to burn through Palkia as quickly as possible. It's a bit light on bulk, but it still is arguably the best non-Mega counter.

Shadow Garchomp Shadow Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

It doesn't appreciate Water Type attacks as much as its fellow Dragons, but it still hits like a truck!

Shadow Dragonite Shadow Dragonite
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

It's a bit weaker than Shadow Salamence, but 90% of the time the difference is so small that it's virtually unnoticeable.

PalkiaOrigin Palkia (Origin Forme)
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Fighting fire with fire (or in this case water with water) is a great option for this raid. Its double-resistance to Water and Fire Type moves means that it will have outstanding TDO in most cases, making it a top pick here.

DialgaOrigin Dialga (Origin Forme)
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Dialga - Origin Forme's steel sub-typing makes it very suited for taking down its fellow dragons, and makes it a universal pick here. It doesn't appreciate Fire Blast as much as other dragons, but it still works extremely well.

Good Counters

The old-school Dragon legend still works wonders to this day, using its high Dragon damage to take down its fellow Dragons.
