Pokemon Go Tour: Johto

Submit Feedback or Error

Go Fest may be the main event of the year, but this second-year global event is now probably the second biggest recurring part of the Pokemon Go calendar.

Just like earlier this year, Go Tour is coming, and this time around we're focusing squarely on the region of Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal: Johto! The fest will throw a heavy emphasis on this classical region and its Pokemon, and will split the festivities into two different events much like what we saw for Kanto.

Ticket Details:

  • This event will have universal participation available, but is also a ticketed event with tickets on sale in the shop now
    • Players will be able to choose a Gold or Silver ticket for this event, with various bonuses exclusive to each.
      • Despite the connotation with the concept of "Gold" and "Silver", these two names refer to the versions of the Generation 2 games that this event is based on, and do not mean that one is objectively better than the other.
    • Tickets will cost $11.99 USD or an equivalent price for other currencies.
  • Players that purchase the ticket before January 10 will be given access to special research lines for January and February.
  • Players that purchase the ticket before February 10 will be given access to a special research line for February.

The Event

Before looking at what the two tickets have to offer, let's review the free portion of the event itself:

  • Pokemon originating in the Jhoto Pokedex will spawn more often, including national availability for regionals!
  • A timed research line will be available
  • Players will be able to receive 2km eggs from Pokestops that contain a special selection of Pokemon.

The Ticketed Event

  • Suffice to say that Pokemon from Johto will be available via nearly every method of obtaining Pokemon in the game.
  • A special research line that will reward Celebi with a special, currently unannounced move will be available.
  • Much like last year, completion of this research will unlock a Masterwork research line with more challenging tasks that is intended to be completed at the player's leisure.
  • All Pokemon from Johto will be available in shiny form, including any currently unreleased.
  • Unown will be spawning more frequently in its G, O, T, U, R, and J variants.
  • Nine collection challenges will be available, with an emphasis on the Johto dex.
  • Players will be given access to an exclusive medal for this event.
    • If this is anything like last time, then players will be given a medal based on the ticket that they choose.
  • A free bundle with remote raid passes will be available in the shop
  • 1/4 Egg Hatch distance, 2x Hatch candy, extra candy for Johto catches, 9 free raid passes for spinning Pokestops, and photobombs will be available.

Gold and Silver Differences

This is probably the biggest question going into this event, and while we'll go into more depth on the topic later, here's the basic overview of the difference between the two tickets.

A Return to The Real World

While Go Tour: Johto is indeed a global event, players in "select cities" will be able to continue play into February 27 with a rehash of Go Tour: Kanto. This is stated to be a 100% optional bonus for those living in these areas, and can be participated in even if players skip Go Tour: Johto. The announcement post doesn't have any information on which cities will be included in this event, but we will keep you posted!
