PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Gust and Brave Bird provide maximum damage
  • Wing Attack is second best, Air Slash is... non-elite.
  • Steel Wing is worthless on Pidgeot
  • Hurricane is the second best charged move, followed by Aerial Ace, then Air Cutter.
  • Feather Dance is worthless for PvE.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Gust provides huge power on defense, but it's the same type as all of Pidgeot's charged moves. Steel Wing is also decent, though its coverage is fairly similar.
  • Air Slash is an okay secondary pick if you don't have a Pidgeot with Gust, but it is definitely weaker.
  • Wing Attack has no defensive viability for Pidgeot
  • Aerial Ace is the top choice, as it comes out frequently
  • Air Cutter is only slightly stronger than Aerial Ace, but the energy requirement is too high to make the trade-off worth it.
  • Brave Bird is the best one-bar move, but Pidgeot may never use it.
  • Hurricane is a weaker Brave Bird.
  • Feather Dance is worthless for PvE.

PVE Overview

The final evolution of what was arguably once the most common Pokemon in the game. And it's still pretty common despite having so many new Pokemon added to the pool! Pidgeot can serve new players well with some cheap, easily obtainable flying-type damage. While flying isn't the most useful type in Pokemon Go, evolving a high-level Pidgey can instantly net a new player a Pokemon worth using... for a while. Sadly, Pidgeot is quickly outclassed as a trainer gains even mediocre specialists, but it's definitely useful for getting over a hump, and having a single high-IV Pidgeot raised can be useful because of Mega Pidgeot.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Gust* or Wing Attack* + Brave Bird and Feather Dance

Gust is the most ideal for Pidgeot, sporting the strongest damage output while still returning respectable energy gains. Wing Attack is generally inferior, but offers slightly superior energy generation, resulting in quicker access to charge moves. Air Slash is weaker to Gust, and should only be chosen if you lack Elite TMs.

Brave Bird is the most efficient and powerful charge move available, though it's also risky with its significant self-debuff. Hurricane costs the most energy and is not worth the cost, while Air Cutter is just a horrible move overall. Feather Dance has pathetic damage output, its debuff utility makes it considerably more worthwhile compared to Aerial Ace for the same 45 energy cost, which is just a poor move overall.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 4 / 5

The update with Feather Dance is a significant improvement for Pidgeot, ensuring a guaranteed -2 ATK debuff per use. The strong damage output of Gust combined with a significant ATK debuff on the opponent enables Pidgeot to win a very surprising amount of matchups that aren't heavily skewed by typing advantages/disadvantages. If you don't have a Pidgeot with Gust, this might be the most value you can get for an Elite Fast TM.

Ultra League: 4 / 5

Feather Dance's powerful and consistent utility is what carries Pidgeot to the top of the meta, in both open UL and Premier formats. With access to XL candy, Pidgeot can reach 2436 CP with Best Buddy effects, making this Pokemon somewhat costly for Ultra League, but not totally inaccessible due to Pidgeot requiring only 1km to walk per candy reward. Likewise in Great League, Pidgeot does well against many Pokemon, but typing matchups will largely determine which ones to fight and which ones to switch from.

Master League: 0 / 5

Ever hear of killing two birds with one stone? Well, you can faint 3 Pidgeot in the Master League using 1 of just about anything viable in the tier.
