PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Rock Throw + Stone Edge is Regirock's only really viable attacking set in light of its poor Attack stat.

PVE Overview

Regirock, similar to the other two legendary titans in Pokemon GO, is a defensive monster. In spite of its monolithic defense stat it cannot be placed in a gym. It has access to both a Rock-type fast move and charge move, which puts it well ahead of most Rock-type Pokemon in GO. That said, you're much better off just using Golem or Tyranitar.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Rock Throw+Stone Edge and Focus Blast

Rock Throw has 4 DPT (Damage Per Turn) and 2.5 EPT (Energy Per Turn), allowing it to be a very threatening attack, taking solid chunks of HP without the use of charged moves. This is good, because its moves tend to be pretty expensive. Stone Edge (100 Power/55 Energy) is the easiest to use, and a powerful option for general use, while Focus Blast (150 Power/75 Energy) is a genuinely powerful but highly expensive option. Given these moves, Regirock is best used as a closer, as it appreciates not having to worry about opponents shielding its slow and imposing charged moves.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1 / 5

Regirock has a titanic defense stat and decent overall bulk. It's heavily held back in the Great League due to its CP that can rise to 3122. Its typing also doesn't do it many favors, as it's outclassed by many better Rock types. In fact, its only real niche over its stony brethren is its access to the great Fighting Type charged move, Focus blast, though its high cost makes it unwieldy despite its high power. All things considered, Bastiodon does bulky rock offense better.

Ultra League: 1 / 5

Regirock's high CP maxes out not far above the Ultra League cap, giving it very solid bulk in the tier. It can work very well as a Rock-type attacker and fills the niche that this brings very well. It has many good matchups in the tier, but it's also dead weight against a large number of major threats. The fact that it's weak to the ubiquitous Counter is also a reason to seriously consider a different Pokémon.

Master League: 1 / 5

Regirock's role in the Ultra League is solidified even farther in the Master League, where it retains a number of good and useful matchups that could potentially justify its use. However, it's generally overshadowed by other big Rock types such as Tyranitar or Rhyperior, which are both significantly more powerful overall.
