PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Hex is only slightly better than Astonish.

  • Shadow Ball should always be picked over Ominous Wind.

  • Icy Wind is an underwhelming move.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Hex is the superior defensive fast move.

  • Ominous Wind is weaker than Shadow Ball, but also harder to dodge and has the potential to be spammed.

  • Icy Wind offers useful coverage for Dragon-type generalists.

PVE Overview

This terrifying blimp is probably not as bad as you’d expect. Shadow Ball makes it a bulky Ghost attacker with acceptable DPS, in spite of its low Attack stat. As a defender it doesn’t shine in pure tankiness, but its unique triple resistance to Fighting makes it work as an efficient Machamp wall, if placed in between the big Normal-types.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Hex+Shadow Ball and Ominous Wind

Hex is not a good attack in PVP due to its below-average 2 DPT (Damage Per Second) and 3.66 EPT (Energy Per Turn), but it's the best move available to Drifblim. Shadow Ball (100 Power/55 Energy) is an objectively great move and it has STAB on top of that, while Ominous Wind (50 Power/40 Energy) gives Drifblim a cheaper move to get out more quickly and bait shields while also granting the potential to raise all of Drifblim's stats at the same time, which makes it a huge threat with a bit of luck.

Hex+Shadow Ball and Icy Wind

Icy Wind (60 Power/45 Energy) may not be an objectively great attack, but it does have the advantages of giving Drifblim an additional type to make use of and a fairly fast-charging move.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 3 / 5

Drifblim is a great counter-pick to many, many huge threats in the tier. It makes quick work of Medicham, Lucario, Deoxys-D, and pretty much anything else that relies on Counter thanks to its unique triple-resistance. It's also quite bulky, but it's held back by its poor Quick Moves and lack of coverage options.

Ultra League: 2 / 5

Once again, Drifblim absolutely invalidates Fighting types in particular, which are occasionally brought to counter Pokemon that counter Giratina. However, Giratina itself is such an oppressive force in the tier that Drifblim's utility tends to deflate quickly in the tier outside of protecting what counters it.

Master League: 1.5 / 5

Drifblim's restricted CP and high competition for its niche leaves it high and dry in the Master League, though it can still leverage its unique resistances to make a dent when needed.
