PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Dragon Breath and Roar of Time* is Dialga - Origin Forme's patented Dragon-countering moveset.
  • Draco Meteor is okay, but it's definitely the inferior option here.
  • Metal Claw and Iron Head can work as a Steel Type moveset, though normal Dialga is better suited for that, and even it isn't great in the role.
  • Thunder is an easy skip.

PVE Overview

Dialga's Origin Forme was revealed near the end of Pokemon Legends - Arceus, as a unique forme to this Pokemon that changes it on a fundamental level, and while it keeps the same Dragon/Steel typing as its basic forme, its stats undergo a change during the transformation. While it's not terribly significant, Dialga - Origin Forme's stats switch up to be slightly more defensive, outright trading a few points in Attack for a few points in Defense. This should mean that it's the inferior Dialga for raids, but that couldn't be farther from the truth! With Dialga - Origin Forme's release, we also saw the release of its signature move: Roar of Time. This Dragon Type Charged Move is pretty brutal, and raises this deity of time to new heights as it breaks the very fabric of time just to do away with whatever is in front of it. Add to this a Steel sub-typing to make it one of the few Dragons with no Dragon weakness, and Dialga - Origin Forme is a very strong all-around pick that is very safe to use in many Dragon raids, making it a worthwhile investment.

And Raid utility isn't the only reason to use Dialga - Origin Forme! Alongside Palkia - Origin Forme, this is the first individual Pokemon that's capable of directly effecting the way that Pokemon Go is played! Any Dialga - Origin Forme that has the move Roar of Time is capable of using a unique Adventure Effect that will pause the timer for most limited-duration items such as Star Pieces and Incense for 6 minutes at the cost of 5 Dialga Candy and 5,000 Stardust, extending them for up to 2 hours per individual use, and up to 24 consecutive hours total. This gives added value to Dialga - Origin Forme, and makes it a must-have for any trainer's team!

PvP Moveset Explanation

Dragon Breath + Iron Head and Roar of Time*

Dragon Breath is, frankly, the main source of Dialga-O's offensive power, and is thus the correct choice for fast move. It provides an incredible amount of consistent Dragon-type damage.

Iron Head is Dialga-O's cheapest move, and while it is (on its own) mediocre, it provides solid anti-Fairy coverage, and is generally good enough.

Roar of Time is generally the secondary best option, due to its mind-boggling damage output and lack of drawbacks. However, as the move is rather exclusive, some trainers may not have access to it. Thunder is a viable alternative, hitting Flying-types and Kyogre and being slightly cheaper than Roar of Time. Draco Meteor is strictly inferior to Roar of Time, as it possesses the same power and cost, but has a significant Attack self-debuff that can drop Dialga-O's power to unusable levels.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 0 / 5

Dialga-O's CP is too high to be used in the Great League.

Ultra League: 1 / 5

Dialga-O is fragile and its moveset is too slow in the overall spammy Ultra League.

Master League: 5 / 5

Time and time again, Dialga has proven that it deserves its throne atop the Master League. Well, at least, in a way. Dialga's base forme held that title for just about as long as Master League has been around, and its Origin forme, right here, is about to continue that title. Much like base Dialga, Dialga-O possesses an incredible defensive typing and oppressive Dragon Breath pressure. It checks numerous Pokemon - Kyogre, Lugia, Zarude, and just about every other Dragon-type Pokemon in the game. Its Steel-typing and coverage allows it to threaten Fairy-type Pokemon. Against all but the most disadvantageous matchups, Dialga-O deals heavy damage and may even force mindgames. All this makes Dialga-O the single most splashable Pokemon in the Master League, synergizing with just about every Pokemon.

So what's new for Dialga-O compared to its base forme? Well...it just has slightly more bulk, stat product, and Roar of Time, at the cost of having very slightly less Attack. These can be seen as overall small upgrades, but an upgrade to one of the metagame's most defining Pokemon is still worth a ton. Although Dialga-O loses Charged Attack Priority to its base forme and now ties with Kyogre and Groudon, it gains a significant number of bulkpoints in return. Example new bulkpoints include Landorus-T's Mud Shot, Mewtwo's Psycho Cut, Kyogre's Waterfall, and Dragon Breaths from the likes of Palkia-O, Zekrom, and Reshiram.

Like with its base forme, Dialga-O is primarily countered by Ground- and certain Steel-type Pokemon. Some good options are Landorus-T, Groudon, Solgaleo, Melmetal, and Excadrill. The Fairy-type Xerneas also handles Dialga-O well as it can easily take an Iron Head and retaliate with Close Combat or Moonblast. If you're going to play Master League, make sure that your team has an answer to Dialga-O, or you will lose to it.
