PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Fury Cutter and X-Scissor go together to make Genesect a top-tier Bug-type attacker.
  • Metal Claw and Magnet Bomb make Genesect a Steel attacker, though it's fairly lackluster.
  • Techno Blast - Burn has no genuine utility on Genesect.
  • Flamethrower is a downgrade in overall performance.
  • Hyper Beam is inferior.

PVE Overview

While Genesect - Burn Drive can do everything that the basic form of this prehistoric terminator can do, it also has the added power of a Fire-type Techno Blast. However, this move isn't worth anything per-say in the PvE meta, and Genesect is still best used as a Bug-type Attacker.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Fury Cutter + X-Scissor and Techno Blast - Burn*

Fury Cutter is recommended for its superior energy generation. Metal Claw has poor stats, and doesn't provide much value unless there is a niche for Steel-type damage.

X-Scissor costs the least amount of energy and can be used frequently to pressure shields. Techno Blast is a very powerful move that requires a moderate amount of energy, and is recommended for this variant of Genesect. Flamethrower is a direct downgrade. Magnet Bomb is an option if Steel-type coverage is needed, but demands more energy than X-Scissor, which slows down Genesect's access to its most powerful move.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: N/A

Currently this Genesect variant cannot be chosen for Great League due to its CP being too high.

Ultra League: 2.5 / 5

Genesect is a Bug/Steel Pokemon that shares typings with Escavalier and Scizor and also competes for their roles. Genesect is the frailest pick among those three, and is less of a generalist by comparison. Access to Fire-type coverage is useful against popular Steel-types, though Genesect would prefer to bait shields with X-Scissor instead of having its powerful Techno Blast shielded. Due to the moderately expensive 55 energy cost of Techno Blast, Genesect tends to struggle in 2-shield scenarios, which makes it better as a specific counter, or sweeper role. Giratina still walls Genesect, and Water-types and Fighting-types are typically losses for Genesect as well.

Master League: 3 / 5

Genesect doesn't compete well in Master League, with only notable wins against Metagross and Mewtwo. Togekiss can survive with two shields, and beating Dialga requires not only both shields, but landing Techno Blast successfully. Overall Genesect is a very difficult play in this league, and other picks are generally more effective overall.
