PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Tackle has the best Fast Move performance, though Sand Attack is Linoone's only Fast Move that has a matching Charged Move.
  • Shadow Claw is a great move, but it has little synergy with Linoone's Charged Moves to speak of.
  • Grass Knot is the strongest Charged Move option, followed by Thunder and Dig.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Generally best to go with Shadow Claw, though Quick Attack is decent after STAB.
  • Sand Attack falls behind on defense.
  • Grass Knot and Dig are both okay in their own rights.
  • Thunder is hard to dodge, but Linoone will probably drop before then.

Nope, don't even consider it for PvE.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Shadow Claw + Grass Knot and Thunder

Despite lacking STAB, Shadow Claw easily outperforms Tackle.

Grass Knot is a solid Grass-type move and costs the least amount of energy among Linoone's charge moves. Thunder doesn't get as much use, but is still valued for its coverage against Flying-type opponents. The wide coverage from Dig is really good, but not at the ridiculous cost of 80 energy.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 2 / 5

Linoone is generally a solid Pokemon despite not having a large presence in the PvP scene, probably due to the lack of Normal-type Pokemon eligible for Silph Arena cups prior to the Jungle Cup. As a pure Normal-type Pokemon, Linoone does quite well in Great League thanks to good bulk and a strong moveset. Access to Shadow Claw allows it to wall Ghost-types like Haunter, while Grass Knot gives Linoone wins against common Water-type picks. Unfortunately Linoone lacks the durability that tanks like Bastiodon enjoy, and also has no real answer to popular Grass picks or Counter users. Regardless, Linoone still enjoys wins against numerous common meta picks, and its use in the Chicago Season 1 Championships may be a preview of what's to come in the future.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

With a max CP of 1662, Linoone is mostly confined to the Great League.

Master League: 0 / 5

Master League is a bad place to be a Linoone.
