PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Waterfall should be paired with Hydro Pump for taking on Ground, Fire, and Rock-type Pokemon. This is Sharpedo’s most useful moveset.

  • Bite should be paired with Crunch for countering Psychic and Ghost-type Pokemon.

  • Poison Fang has no use on an offensive Sharpedo.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Waterfall is clearly superior to Bite, having a significantly higher base damage.

  • Crunch is slightly better than Poison Fang on defense, having better damage and coverage at the expense of a later damage window.

  • Hydro Pump will pack a surprise, but with Sharpedo’s non-existent bulk it will never get the chance to fire.

PVE Overview

Sharpedo defines the term "glass cannon". Its defense stat doesn’t even break 3 digits! This vicious predator will dethrone Kingler as the non-legendary Water-type with the highest Atk stat, although Gyarados is still king.

As a Dark-type attacker, though a double resistance to Psychic somewhat compensates for its frailty, a maxed Sharpedo would still succumb in only a few hits to most raid bosses packing Confusion.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Waterfall + Crunch and Poison Fang

Waterfall’s (4 DPT/2.66 EPT) relatively low energy gain mixed with Sharpedo’s incredibly low bulk means you’re not likely to be firing off Hydro Pumps (130 power, 75 energy). As such, Crunch (70 power, 45 energy) and Poison Fang (40 power, 35 energy) are the two cheap charged moves of choice. Bite (4 DPT/2 EPT) is potentially a usable option, but it's inferior most of the time.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 0 / 5

Sharpedo is an extreme version of a glass cannon, which limits its viability in any league. Despite a few good matchups, Sharpedo is weak to too much to make him worth running. He's not bad in farming Ace Trainer wins against Candela.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

Because they’re made of cartilage rather than bones, sharks are squishy. In Ultra League, this means they die almost immediately to basically everything. Even worse than in Great League, please don't.

Master League: 0 / 5

See above. No sharks for Master League.
